Quick name change to respond to this post. I am 6'2". I have never had an issue with my height until the last 4 or 5 years. Now I'm forever hearing stuff like this - giant women Sad. It's especially noticeable in the discussion around males in female sport, photos of 6' tall men 'towering above' the women.

I'm not slim either, so comments about huge 15 stone 'women' playing in female teams have done more to make me feel uncomfortable in my own skin than decades of 'Oh, aren't you tall', 'what's the weather like up there' and not being able to find long enough trousers.

I've also been on the receiving end of a few side eyes when using women's loos.

So the issues are affecting me from a completely different angle.

I am very much GC, but women (natal ones) come in all shapes and sizes. We're not all 5'4" and a size 10.

It must be hard and the side eyes can't be nice. This is a side effect to women no longer being able to trust things, all the gaslighting about transwomen passing is making us question our own judgement. We need to learn to trust our own instincts again and acknowledge that males are male.

SabrinaThwaite · 06/07/2023 11:02

There was an AIBU thread from last year that linked to this calculator for height. If the calculator is accurate, then a 6’3” woman is on the 99.997 percentile, and only 1 in 36700 women will be taller.

A bit tangential - but the 5, 9" 'woman' is described as having a " Merseyside accent" which I take to mean a Liverpool accent. As someone from Liverpool this tendency is a real, long standing irritant. The BBC, in particular, seems unable to say the word 'Liverpool' in any report - even when an incident has occured within the city itself, the word 'Merseyside' continues to be used.

Is this some sort of phobia or something? It happens all of the time.

Sorry! Got that off my chest now....

NC fail Never mind. I'll be my authentic self.

And we embrace women who are their authentic self. I have family members and friends who are tall also, in all shapes and sizes. Still wonderful women.

"I've also been on the receiving end of a few side eyes when using women's loos."

I am sure you have. But, if it didn't progress past the side eye you must quite obviously be a woman once people look. I am sorry to hear that you are side eyed though.

gemstoneju · 06/07/2023 11:51

@Oblahbla One of the worst aspects of men claiming to be women and demanding access to female spaces is the fear and hostility it has generated towards women who are simply tall, statuesque or who look quite butch. have a very tall female relative who is 6'2 and years ago the only comments she ever got were along the lines of 'oh she's such a tall girl'. This climate nowadays has been created by entitled men and I am very sorry that you are bearing the brunt of it.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 06/07/2023 12:20

The irony of it is that (as ever) those on the other side of the debate claim that it's gender critical women's fault for stirring up unnecessary panic about transwomen which has caused some females to be harrassed/ questioned/ examined more closely. If we would all just shut up & let males do whatever they want, it would be better for everyone. It's the tall/butch/hairy females they really worry about etc etc etc.

Just the usual DARVO plus the old trick of 'I'm not complaining on my own behalf but it's those people over there I'm concerned for'.

Have you ever seen the form for diagnosing Gender Dysphoria. I've never seen more probing questions on an NHS form and i've took blood tests. GIC are also separate clinics with there own separate funding they don't contribute anywhere near as much as you think to the overall NHS backlog. Apart from GRS which most Trans people don't get access to anyway it's just hormones and laser hair removal at a separate private clinic because the NHS doesn't do repeated laser hair removal sessions themselves.

Have you seen the forms and the assessments and the blood tests and the mammograms and the biopsies and the surgeries and the chemo some women who have to have their breasts removed due to cancer go through?

And you want your mates to what? Jump the queue?

Jump the queue? You realise the waiting list is minimum 2 years right and growing? The minimum waiting time for an NHS appointment should be 18 weeks or under.
How can you compare cancer treatment which is inherently much more involved and complicated to GIC care as well. Despite the incredibly probing questionare for an original diagnosis of gender dysphoria which includes at most the NHS simply sends a voucher to access a private laser clinic or voice training therapy. At the very minimum simply just prescribes Gender Affirming hormones which are monitored using blood tests every 3 months and every 6 after the first 2. Imagine waiting 2 years to get a prescription for something you can buy legally in the UK for about £60 a year for injection.

Note I didn't mention GRS because GRS appointments have there own separate longer waiting list after the first waiting list of getting a first appointment and the next waiting list of waiting for a prescription. This is all if things go to plan as well. Imagine if a healthcare professional denied treatment after such a long wait. Which does happen btw, frequently. It would be better if the NHS just didn't provide GRS appointments so Trans people can plan and save up to get them abroad

NicCageisnotNickCave · 06/07/2023 12:37

Absolutely. The NHS should not be in the business of amputating healthy body parts.

God i'm so glad none of my parents turned out so high and mighty and full of themselves

Quick quesy - which of your parents gave birth to you, how do you know, and do you understand how babies are made?

Froodwithatowel · 06/07/2023 12:38

Children are waiting 2-3 years for an Autism assessment and 18 months for speech therapy. Hip replacements, yada yada. Yes, NHS waiting lists are grim everywhere for all people.

JudgeAnderson · 06/07/2023 12:47

I find this outrageous. There is no way public funds should be paying for any of this. These are physically healthy people using resources while genuinely ill people suffer and die.

JudgeAnderson · 06/07/2023 12:50

And the lack of gratitude as well. Oh boo hoo at my free stuff.

Women with excess body hair often find the condition distressing and embarrasing. Do you think they get vouchers for private laser treatment? Do they bollox.

The needs of women with PCOS is often over looked while extreme trans activists utilise these women's medical condition to use as some kind of fucked up false comparator & to attempt to destabilise the sex spectrum.

There is a 5 year ‘black hole’ for teens in Manchester transfer from CAMHS to adult mental health services.

And my autist son waited 3.5 years for occupational therapy BACK IN 2012! Crikey knows how long it takes now.

You assume of course that NHS HCPs want to work in this field. Provision is constrained by the numbers of people willing to get involved in "affirming" this immersive fiction with drugs and surgery. There are many HC specialisms to chose from and people can't be compelled to do that job.

GPs don't want to be involved as it's too specialist for a GP.

There is more money to be made in the USA where the cost of cosmetic surgery is high and so practitioners will earn a lot selling any modifications to anyone that asks.

There's plenty of activists that practically give away hormones to anyone that asks to circumvent careful evaluation.

I read that China has banned the export of the raw materials for bathtub hormones so that's going to change the DIY/doctor shopping market again.

And yes, NHS hair removal is ridiculous.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 06/07/2023 13:20

A certain posters lack of life experience is showing. No real understanding of what it takes to be a transwoman. No real understanding of the pressure and constraints on the NHS.

If there weren't so many men trying to gain access to women's spaces, then there probably wouldn't even be a side eye.

We are all a lot more wary now, which makes it difficult in so many ways for women.

Yeah that was childish even I can admit that. Can do better than that. Hey at least I can admit when i'm wrong hey. Idk I think forcing someone to apologise for something they already apologised for is kinda weird though.

Hmm, I don’t think you have acknowledged your biggest error, much less apologised to Beetle for it.

You said:

“Possessing child pornography is not at all limited to men. It's horrendous and the verdict is laughable but it's not like sexual offences or rape.”

You appear to have acknowledged that you erroneously used the term “child pornography” instead of “child sexual exploitation”.

You do not appear to have acknowledged that the premise of your argument above (I have bolded it to help you) is that child sexual exploitation is not a sexual offence, and is not rape.

I don’t think dyslexia causes “mistakes” like this.

I think it had not even occurred to you that the children are by definition victims of sexual offences, rape and in some cases murder.

You need to reflect on this.

JudgeAnderson · 06/07/2023 14:06

There was also a bit further upthread where evieowlette refered to meeting "other trans people" at uni, which is confusing because they said they weren't trans.

Ah lovely, Evie is back to continue her education.
