Breastfeeding

So my thread about the ‘transwoman’ breastfeeding has been deleted.

Apparently Mumsnet doesn’t allow discussion about this. Big surprise. I now expect my account to be deleted.

What a shitshow!

Hi all,

We took down the previous thread because we had deleted so many posts that made serious allegations and/or speculated about a named individual and right now we just can’t allow such posts to continue. Discussing this story and the wider issues raised by it does not, in itself, break our guidelines, but do please consider these guidelines when posting.

As you can appreciate, this is a challenging issue to moderate and so we’d really appreciate your help in maintaining a civil and constructive discussion.

Thanks - I appreciate the explanation. I used to work on a site and manage moderation so can understand. I think it’s just such an emotive subject that lots of people (myself included) find it hard not to single out individuals involved

Men breastfeeding is not a new thing. Before formula was a thing, widowed men occasionally managed to induce lactation to feed their babies.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/18/opinion/sunday/men-breastfeeding.html

You are on the one website where that type of misinformation will never be believed.
And the earth is not flat despite the horizon looking horizontal.

FannyCann · 03/07/2023 22:27

Also, does that screenshot from FannyCan say “two parents breastfeeding is helpful”? So the other parent of this baby is a woman who is actually breastfeeding it?

Yes @ReeseWitherfork he claims two parents feeding is not only helpful but healthy.

As I said this is very harmful for the lactating mother.
Neither helpful nor healthy.

Is it best to complain direct to ITV News? Is there an overseer?

And why does the Daily Mail call this man a woman and she? Was some law passed by the UK govt to order newspapers to use inaccurate language? That piece of legislation passed me by.

@IAmSalmaFuckingHayek where on FB?

Less anon so women with reservations keep their heads down. I've been attacked by Men's Rights activists on FB. 'Kin scary.

An artist friend shared it (she’s mostly GC so I think she was trying to peak people), and so many women have commented saying how amazing this is, how wonderful the human body is, how lucky this “lady” is to have had this bond with their child.
I can well believe that no one wanted to post anything against it, but women were falling over themselves to provide the gushiest, most stunning and brave posts ever.

JellySaurus · 03/07/2023 22:48

I wonder how much secretion the baby actually ingested. Any of us who have breastfed will recognise that the baby in the picture is not breastfeeding - the infant is positioned in a way that would make breastfeeding virtually impossible. That baby is a prop. Probably a real, living infant, poor thing - but a prop, nonetheless.

Oh God! We are absolutely where we are today because of all these women being KIIIIIIND. Although of course we wouldn’t be where we are today, if these MEN weren’t boundary-erasing and appropriating everything left, right and centre.

ScrollingLeaves · 03/07/2023 22:52

I think possibly a thread needs to avoid naming or pointing at someone because it can seem like a personal attack.

But other than that, many breast-feeding-male posts do easily get deleted so it may be that some posters believe these men are a good thing and that men who do this really are just nurturing mothers.

So they report the thread as insulting and demeaning.

Vebrithien · 03/07/2023 22:55

And yet.

My milk didn't come in properly, after a traumatic 44 hour labour with DD, and my 5 day old baby was starving. As a FTM, I didn't know what was happening.

I was refused medication to increase/stimulate lactation.

"Because it passes into the breast milk, to the baby, and there are not the long-term studies to see if it causes any harm to the baby. Give her a bottle of formula, it won't hurt your bond with her".

How can this medication at once be too risky to the baby to allow their already breastfeeding mother to continue to feed them but is safe enough to give to a baby via a male who identifies as a woman?

Why did my baby suffer? Why did I end up with ripped nipples, trying to express for too long to force my milk to come in?

Should I just have said that I identify as a transwoman, and therefore must be enabled to feed my baby?

All massive Eddie Izzard fans as well. I despair.

QueenoftheNimbleFlyingCat · 03/07/2023 23:15

I honestly have a visceral reaction to trans women 'breastfeeding' posts. I cannot tell you how disgusted it makes me that I was not allowed any strong drugs when recovering from a C-section due to the fact that these may pass to the baby but trans women can induce 'lactation' with a plethora of toxic chemicals and that's absolutely fine.

It disgusts me to my core and this has literally zero benefit for the baby. Has the 'milk' even been tested to ensure that it is nutritionally beneficial? No, wow shocker. This is a validating exercise with zero thought given to the child or lactating mother whose supply will be impacted by this ridiculous show.

Male entitlement at its finest.

LivinDaylights · 03/07/2023 23:19

This is just so wrong! So he's taken drugs to induce some sort of lactation, how exactly does a man produce milk for a baby 🤔? Surely that poor baby will be filled full of god knows what chemicals that he's taken to induce lactation. Then there's the darker side of this, is this being done for a sexual thrill? Having breastfed 3 children I can't say I've ever photographed myself in public places feeding and shared for other people, in fact I don't think I've ever shared a breastfeeding pic despite doing it for over 6 years! I don't think many people know I have breastfed so long (I still am), it's not something I feel the need to shout about, well except on here on topics like this, reali life, no!

I think we are in murky water, it's concerning. If a man posted a pic of a child sucking on his nipple we would probably report it, we need to open our eyes!!!

ScrollingLeaves · 03/07/2023 23:20

OH MY GOD!! I honestly feel sick.

sureigot20 · 03/07/2023 23:24

I have to be very careful what I say in work.

But to echo a PP, I also feel sick to my core when I see individuals like this. I struggled to Bf my first due to a 3L PPH, he lost weight and had a TT, but we got through it with minimal help.

I don't know what I'd do it I was asked to help someone induce lactation in these circumstances.

I worry for my daughter. And my son.

Forwarder · 03/07/2023 23:27

@ScrollingLeaves it involves nipple clamps. Which I had nver heard of until three minutes ago. Can't say who using said clamps as it might get deleted.

Toseland · 03/07/2023 23:30

How anyone can look at something like that and not feel repulsion I do not know. And I have such a deep sadness and fear for the baby and mother - what about their needs? Fancy being so selfish that your pleasure comes at the expense of a baby's needs or survival! I've been censored here today because I used a word to describe that.
I took me such hard work in the beginning and I always say breastfeeding is my greatest achievement! This is such an evil mockery of women.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 03/07/2023 23:41

Turns out, he's previously posted photos of him in nipple clamps.

That baby is definitely being used as a sexual accessory

Ah what stage are we at now?
I think we've gone post it never happens.
If it did, it wasn't that bad.
If it was, then it's not a big deal?

Is that where we are? A few more steps to go? Until we deserve this?

myveryownelectrickitten · 03/07/2023 23:52

Ah, so despite MN trying to delete all the “serious allegations” on the previous thread, it turns out now that this person has publically posted kink pics of Themself with a nipple clamp describing a nipple fetish on Their own social media pages.

Are we now allowed to describe Them as a fetishist, MN, since it turns out there’s documentary evidence?

myveryownelectrickitten · 03/07/2023 23:54

I was just arguing with DP earlier about this, who was all “well, maybe this person is just unwell and wants their identity validating instead of being a perve”.

Two hours later DP opened Twitter, saw the recent pics on the thread posted above and was all “Ah, I take that back…”

Former labour adviser. Brilliant. Wonder what he advised Keir?

Can't see any Twatter links. Can someone surmise for those of us unable to see?
