In case anyone is interested ...

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/jun/30/lgbtq-labour-thatcher-section-28

It's basically some waffle around historic labour homophobia building up to the real point which is trying to get Rosie Duffield in trouble for saying men can't be mothers.

The LGBTQ+ community could once rely on Labour as a staunch ally. Not any more | Owen Jones

The party that abolished Thatcher’s hateful section 28 has been pulled into the mire of ‘social conservatism’, says Guardian columnist Owen Jones

What a little twerp he is.

EllaRaines · 01/07/2023 08:14

He is a little weasel that spouts crap.

NotBadConsidering · 01/07/2023 08:15

No interest in reading it. Given Duffield’s tweet was only just over 24 hours ago that means he’s outrage-typed the article in a fury and his hatred of women and false arguments will no doubt be poured onto the page. It will be just like all his other women-hating articles.

donquixotedelamancha · 01/07/2023 08:20

All he's got is hate, it's how he makes his living. Just ignore him.

AutumnCrow · 01/07/2023 08:23

You can let the Readers’ Editor know what you think of his spiteful little article.

AthenaWhite · 01/07/2023 08:23

She didn't say anything homophobic, she said men aren't mothers.

Mother is an important term that is tied to child safeguarding.

Men are not mothers so she was just stating a fact.

This is why the T needs to be coupled with the LGB. Without drawing on the harms caused to lesbian and gay people the argument can't be made.

Owen needs to rewrite his article, leave out any reference to LGB and make his argument for why men can be mothers if that is something he feels strongly about.

Owen feels women should lose words and spaces and hand them over to men, fine. Make your point lad.

pues · 01/07/2023 08:24

For god's sake when will will the LGB community wake up?
Their association with the T has cost them dearly in public opinion.

He does get us posting though. His mum must have given him some crayons.

RachelNoire · 01/07/2023 08:27

Horrible little man. He must be deeply unhappy inside to be so full of hatred for women.

I'll not say what I wish she'd given him.

Abhannmor · 01/07/2023 08:33

Ghastly little creep. I won't read his whiny drivel anymore. He blocked me on YouTube a couple of years ago when I compared him unfavourably with Rosie.

He is surprisingly sensitive for such a venomous toad.

LoobiJee · 01/07/2023 08:41

Has his article been archived?

Given that a female MP was murdered by a constituent inspired by the online ranting which he’d been reading, and that female MPs are routinely subject to online threats, a columnist publicly making a target of a female MP on a topic which has already seen women physically attacked is something he needs to be held accountable for.

Apparently men like him think aggression against women is justifiable if it serves to ensure we do as he/they commands us to.

Justme56 · 01/07/2023 08:41

i find his writing really quite tedious. It’s like he wrote an article a few years ago and just constantly rehashes it by moving the odd sentence round here and there.

FedgeHund · 01/07/2023 08:42

Pregnancy is a protected characteristic, Freddy at the Guardian kindly ensured with their court case that Mother remains the female that birthed the child.

The Guardian and OJ seem to be causing bad relations between protected characteristics, sex, beliefs and pregnancy which is against the equality act.

The equality act does not have an intersectionality top Trump of sexual orientation or gender reassignment being more equal than other protracted characteristics.

Igmum · 01/07/2023 08:51

Vile man. He slides from homophobia to RD making a factual point (men aren't mothers) to link Rosie with homophobia. So glad I cancelled my Guardian subscription. I don't want a penny of my money going to this misogynist.

Backstreets · 01/07/2023 08:54

Grim misogynist who played a big part in making the guardian unreadable. Rosie is a feminist hero.

lanadelgrey · 01/07/2023 08:56

As said upthread - write in and complain/make the points.

Heliotroper · 01/07/2023 08:58

He should remember what the 'L' stands for before he starts to talk in their name

AlisonDonut · 01/07/2023 08:59

This Owen Jones?

Is this piece in the print edition or is it just online clickbait?

Ohyoudodoyou · 01/07/2023 08:59

Ah my favourite pipsqueak misogynist, of course he has something to say about this. He's getting on now and stepping into the ranty old man on social media role.

SinnerBoy · 01/07/2023 09:00

He spouts:

Last year, Scottish Labour joined the overwhelming majority of the Scottish parliament in voting to bring gender recognition laws in line with countries such as Ireland, Norway and Switzerland. But when the Tories voted to overturn Scottish democracy...

Whilst ignoring the fact that the SNP refused to allow amendments, which aimed to protect women and children from sexual predators. Very democratic of them, eh?

He's a dissimulating little shit.

DrBlackbird · 01/07/2023 09:12

I don’t read OJ but decided this time I would read what he was saying this time because Labour does not come across as anti LGBTQ+ to me. Hence, being curious about how he was going to criticise them. This paragraph caught my attention.

First, are transphobic hate crimes ‘soaring’? If so, that’s terrible. However, what does constitute or is a ‘hate crime’. Does it include both being physically assaulted and a tweet saying men aren’t mothers? Or is it just the latter?

Second, we hear somethings wrt to how the self ID laws are going for women and girls in Ireland, but does anyone know of what’s happening in Norway and Switzerland? We are beginning to hear about increasing concerns from such countries about the transgender medicalisation of young people, but are there concerns about the wider impact on women?

With transphobic hate crimes and the Tories targeting the trans community as they did gay people in the 1980s, Labour could offer courageous leadership. It has done the opposite. Last year, Scottish Labour joined the overwhelming majority of the Scottish parliament in voting to bring gender recognition laws in line with countries such as Ireland, Norway and Switzerland

Chrysanthemum5 · 01/07/2023 09:18

Actually I find this quite heartening. I think he's worried that trans issues will be a vote loser for Labour and they will drop their support. Also it shows Sir Keir that no matter what they do for the TRAs it will never be enough. Surely someone at Labour will be smart enough to see this?

FrancescaContini · 01/07/2023 09:21

I hear the sound of a barrel being scraped
