In case anyone is interested ...

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/jun/30/lgbtq-labour-thatcher-section-28

It's basically some waffle around historic labour homophobia building up to the real point which is trying to get Rosie Duffield in trouble for saying men can't be mothers.

The LGBTQ+ community could once rely on Labour as a staunch ally. Not any more | Owen Jones

The party that abolished Thatcher’s hateful section 28 has been pulled into the mire of ‘social conservatism’, says Guardian columnist Owen Jones

Unless he would happily have a Trans-Man-Gina on his face then he just needs to shush - silly boy!

Funny how he knows what sex people are when he's choosing a partner but insists women should be blind.

When that was suggested to him, he called the suggestion 'homophobic'.

If we had made Owen Jones up, he would be his own Black Mirror episode.

TriquetraVisions · 01/07/2023 18:28

Momentum’s tweet about Rosie’s comments got well and truly kicked into touch on Twitter today. Enjoyed reading the quote tweets.

Hmm. I'm not clear about this; suggesting that he take a transman as a sex partner is homophobic, but calling lesbians who don't want a transw one sexual racists and transphobic bigots is just the thing?

How does that work?

The one thing that would make it coherent instead of batshit is misogyny. Not seeing women as equally real people, or with an entitlement to deny male people access to their bodies. It's quite staggeringly common throughout the TQ+ political rhetoric.

HarpyValley · 01/07/2023 18:33

Oh, I thought I heard some vaguely outraged squeaking yesterday afternoon. I just thought the hamster had dropped a sunflower seed through the bars again.

LarkLane · 01/07/2023 18:43

Forwarder · 01/07/2023 17:31

@LarkLane an awful lot of the Labour MPs who bothered to vote against Andrew Bridgens motion were from Merseyside.

Presumably they think the matrons of Bootle will just keep voting like sheep?

@Forwarder that's true. I don't think any of them supported it? I've not been a Labour party member for many years because of HQ interference in local politics...a whole other thread.

I'm no great fan of the MP for Bootle. I've a long memory of his actions when he was on the local Fire Authority. However, there are quite a few things he voted on that I've supported.

Thing is, when you are living in a ( mostly) deprived area, and wading through the day to day shit that affects you, and those around you, a vote for him is possibly the only way some of us can put two fingers up at this Government on other issues.

It's no great secret here that politics in Merseyside has a history of politicians looking after their own interests - regardless of Party.

As for "matrons" of Bootle as you call us🙂 well, I can't say I know of many women who would describe themselves as such... but we do all know that men can't have babies.

Unlike some of those posh lads in frocks who wander up here now and then from the Universities it would seem. All that education and no idea where babies come from.

JaneyGee · 01/07/2023 18:59

Ugghh, can't stand the little twerp. Even by Guardian standards he's smug. You know, it would be interesting have a smugness contest between Owen Jones and Stewart Lee. There are so many insufferable, sanctimonious Oxbridge liberals in the media (in fact, the British media pretty much is smug Oxbridge liberals), but Owen Jones and Stewart Lee are in a league of their own.

Lesbians should accept penises without barely a whisper.

Gay men on the other hand are fully allowed to refuse vaginas.

MargotBamborough · 01/07/2023 19:51

I'm not giving that tedious little turd clicks.

RealityFan · 01/07/2023 20:04

Owen is sad. After a couple of months ago telling GC women to eat shit as the Arrow Of History was inexorably radical trans, he's now saying the likely next government, effectively his side, is throwing TQ+ out of the car.

He's never cheered me up so much. AND to be so triggered by Rosie...happy birthday, Rosie, this is your present to us, lol.

RoyalCorgi · 01/07/2023 20:08

Rosie simply said what the vast majority of the population know to be true: men can't be mothers. She put it very nicely and gently - which is more than the male in question deserved. Owen is so out of touch with the general public that he imagines the Guardian readership will be as outraged as he is. He couldn't be more wrong.

wavingtreetops · 01/07/2023 20:15

Everyone should be safe and respected at work

I wonder if the TUC would like to make a public statement like this supporting Duffield against the harassment she receives at work from gender ideology supporting MPs?

Have you seen him recently? His new looks match his inner happiness.

Not growing older gracefully.

Someone took the portrait from his spare room.

Owen like Ian Beale and Leonardo DiCaprio has two ages 20s and 60s.

Debbehthchosenmum · 01/07/2023 22:13

This wasn't as bad as I anticipated actually. He's still a stupid, wrong, duplicitous prick, but I think he's had to tone down his rhetoric. Didn't overtly accuse anyone of phobia or bigotry. It was implied of course, but I really think there has been a shift and even the guardian won't let him spew as much misogyny.

See, someone understands me! Which is handy as I don't actually understand myself half the time!

I think it's a wonderful balanced piece personally!
