NHS animation to support LGBTQIA+ training

EffinHell · 30/06/2023 13:36

Name changed for this.

Yesterday NHS launched new e-learning to help support LGBTQIA+.

I have no idea what the actual training looks like but this is the video on YouTube to help support the training and is probably part of the training. The video defines each part of LGBTQIA+.

I'm not going to say anything else because the video speaks for itself.

There are so many comment I could make. I’ll choose to defend people who have DSD’s - this isn’t a gender, it’s a medical condition, and like everybody else, these people still have a sex (determined at conception……) You would hope that health care professionals would already be up to speed with that really!
The whole thing is grim

PaleBlueMoonlight · 30/06/2023 13:48

It really does.

Coyoacan · 30/06/2023 13:54

Did it get any facts right?

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 30/06/2023 13:56

I'm confused by the use of gender when they mean sex but also when they mean gender

As a result we miss out on a protected characteristic of sex being represented

Trans Gender = people that don't identify with their sex. Babies don't have genders assigned at birth, they have sex observed at or before birth

EffinHell · 30/06/2023 14:00

The training is produced by the former Health Education England's LGBTQIA+ staff network & D&I team with the help of "outside agencies".

It really is grim. It's like they threw everything in, because there's so much wrong with it, you don't know where to even start. Propaganda, misinformation & misrepresentation.

Do you know if this is going to be compulsory training?

EffinHell · 30/06/2023 14:01

@Transgender means they don't identify with the gender they are born with. "

Lesbian means "mostly attracted to women" and, oh, everyone is a woman.

No, I don't, unfortunately. It's not clear.

Did anyone else look at the graphic at 2:30 in on the video and think that's Sam Brinton and Isla Bryson?

ImperfectAlf · 30/06/2023 14:17

I've just checked the website. Apparently it's 'not yet mandated'
I'm so fucked off with this

Coyoacan · 30/06/2023 14:32

"Asexual refers to people who sometimes feel romantic and sexual attraction to others but only under certain circumstances"!!!!!!

Words fail me

Coyoacan · 30/06/2023 14:33

"A person may be black, Jewish and gay"

So shit Sherlock

I think that might be the only true thing in the entire video

Not quite, they said that the term Queer may be offensive to some people which is true. It did imply that those people were a bit silly and stuck in the past. I must be misremembering it being used as a slur after the 80s because it had been reclaimed by then, silly me.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 30/06/2023 14:40

We need a way to fight back. This is ridiculous and anti-wvidence-based practice.

go back to patient centred care and stop bringing your whole self to work you bunch of narcs

amnm · 30/06/2023 14:40

Are there any resources out there saying that straight men are men who are attracted to women and trans women? Or it is just gay men and lesbians who are expected to pretend to be attracted to the opposite gender to not hurt someone's feelings.

Coyoacan · 30/06/2023 14:42

I stand corrected @Capitulatingpanda

I must be misremembering it being used as a slur after the 80s because it had been reclaimed by then, silly me

That makes two of us

Sort of sums up Linda Bellos and look what happened to her.

I feel like I’m in a parallel universe on this and mn is the only safe space until recently when it got so extreme in my workplace and a few of us in the team exploded (quietly amongst ourselves) with “this is bollocks and dangerous”! I can’t use the word women in promoting womb cancer. My argument is, it’s more important to reach women than to avoid offending a few trans people. I have always thought I was “inclusive” but this tips me over the edge watching years of women fighting for rights being trampled on. It doesn’t feel like we’re winning. More and more I’m finding those around me are on the same page - gay and straight friends. One friend’s son recently became her daughter and has a new vagina but from the outside, hearing all the bullying etc they’ve experienced, there’s so much more and the vagina/new identity feels like an attempt to start again rather than fix the mh issues.

people need help not encouragement down this path.

Yes, I was going to say yes this bit was true. Notice how it's a young adult, girl, boy, who knows child who is calling them queer but they/them's are unhappy because they haven't told him yet that he can say queer.

Fuk sake

25sheets · 30/06/2023 14:56

The woman reading that has given me the heebies. They've picked her for her nice, gentle, wooing voice but we know she's a fucking lunatic if she believes any of this horseshit.

Myalternate · 30/06/2023 15:02

Notice how prominent the ‘T’ is in that graphic, all the others letters are fairly squashed up.

Capitulatingpanda · 30/06/2023 15:03

Did anyone else feel really upset by "anyone can identify as a lesbian" it totally erased same sex attraction. I know this is nothing new but having worked in the NHS for so long (not anymore) I felt a bit crushed hearing them very very clearly redefine lesbian in a video that is meant to train people. Sad rage....

IcakethereforeIam · 30/06/2023 15:06

It's not an acronym, as I understand it. It's an initialism. Why does it have to be celebrated?

DreamItDoIt · 30/06/2023 15:08

And the NHS is under funded ........

No it isn't, they're awash with money if they can pay for this. It's very very worrying .
