NHS animation to support LGBTQIA+ training

Yesterday NHS launched new e-learning to help support LGBTQIA+.

I have no idea what the actual training looks like but this is the video on YouTube to help support the training and is probably part of the training. The video defines each part of LGBTQIA+.

I'm not going to say anything else because the video speaks for itself.

And what are their pronouns? Shehe/Herhis?

2 is apparently two-spirited, for anyone unaware... People who are simultaneously made up of both male and female spirits 🤨

Are spirits different to genders?

That's a Native American/First nations thing - which, like the use of intersex, offends most of the people it's trying to co-opt [1]. Probably why it got dropped fairly quickly - people pointing out that it was cultural approriation, whitesplaining, and a sign of not being able to tell indigenous groups apart rather undermined their self-identifcation as The Good People.

[1] It's really nothing like the Western concept of trans, and it was only a thing in a small number of Plains tribes.

(As an aside, the tribes with a 2-spirit concept tend to be the ones that historically also had the worst treatment of women. That's where it has most common ground with TRAs - it's deeply sexist.)

@SierraSapphire they want us to use women and people with wombs. I think that distracts from the hugely important message.

I also had to explain numerous times why I don’t want a coil fitted despite heavy periods causing low iron… I’m a victim of rape and while it doesn’t impact me much these days, I cannot have a coil fitted. The thought makes me freeze.

Thanks MrsOvertonsWindow - I don't think the insensitivity would be standing out to me so much if there wasn't such a disproportionate effort to appease such a small group of people compared to the many many more women who are experiencing re-traumatisation repeatedly with no posters and videos made about our needs.

to you too TeenLifeMum. I'm not sure whether there's much understanding about the fight or flight response as opposed to it just being a bit uncomfortable. To be fair services have mostly been good about making sure I have female staff, but having to say it over and over again each time is tiring.

That's the point, isn't it? You have to comply because we our truths.

The NHS is on its knees, but can somehow fund a cartoon to tell us that some me are women.
The government needs to enforce some austerity measures and cut all this batshittery from all publicly funded services.

I only got as far as the definition of “lesbian” (do NHS staff really not already know what it means?) and stopped watching. I am not a lesbian but I find their definition pretty offensive.

Why does the NHS waste time and resources on this embarrassing, offensive bollox??

Do they make their staff sit through similar Play School-esque patronising videos about people of various faiths, people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, people with disabilities? Can you imagine?!?!

I'm going to risk being accused of hyperbole, here, but what the fucking fuck is this moral outrage being peddled by the NH fucking S at our financialand social cost?!

How fucking dare they?!

Someone, please, make a parody of this. It’s pretty much a parody of itself already.

“This is Kath. She lives in a high rise block on the outskirts of Manchester. She has four children by four different fathers and claims universal care. She is unable to work due to suffering from depression. Kath is a member of the social underclass.” Last two words written in colourful caps, comic sans, natch. Pretty colours and soothing voice.

I’ve emailed Steve Barclay about this. No fan of his, but I doubt he’d be happy to know this is how NHS money is being spent.

I’m wondering if consultant neurosurgeons and the like have to sit through such cartoons. No pun intended, but their brains must explode at the sheer inanity of it.
