Genuine question - is it mostly biological women who have reservations about the trans movement?

After a couple of arguments on social media to do with women feeling safe or not when a trans-woman with a penis goes into women-only spaces .... I have the gut feeling that it's mostly biological women who have concerns about this, and it's mostly (sometimes well meaning) men who say that transwomen should be allowed into previously women-only spaces.

Is that the case or are there as many biological-born women supporting trans-women as men?

I realise I've probably got half the language wrong here but honestly, it seems a minefield.

This is such a non issue. The planet is burning, people are starving, refugees are dying on ships. Maybe everyone should focus their anger on that

Very few trans women actually have their penises removed, OP.

Most just want to have sex with actual women in my experience...

So I've learned - someone upthread quoted that 95% of them want to keep their penis.

Fuck that for a game of soldiers.

Anyone with half a brain should have problems with transwomen invading women's single-sex spaces, sports, etc. Sadly many of both sexes seem to lack the cerebral wherewithal to meet that low bar...

Indeed - does that mean that Stonewall and the TRAs are going to stop campaigning to allow men into women's spaces and sports then?

I wonder if they'll feel the same when they're older, 40+? It's easy to think there's gender equality when you're young and when you've knocked aroudn the world a bit you realise there's no such thing.

That's something that Victoria Smith covers well in her latest book, Hags.

Oh no, it's mega important for them to push that agenda.

It's just that if anyone responds to it, then it's a "distraction" and a "culture war" issue, and we should all have far more important things to be doing.

So I've learned - someone upthread quoted that 95% of them want to keep their penis.

Along with the (imo deliberately confusing) use of the terms TW & TM, knowing that many people will assume that they refer to the opposite way around, I think the vast majority of the general public also assume that a 'transitioned' transwoman will of course have had his genitals removed. Maybe they assume this because most transmen use binders, making it look like they've had their breasts removed, even if they haven't gone in for an elective double mastectomy.

Ergo although people know that you can't actually change sex, they woefully simplistically figure that, without a penis, a TW can no longer rape a woman who is using the female facilities, so they conclude that the risk is all gone, and they fixate on that.

It is startling how many TW - men who, by definition completely reject all desire to identify or act (stereotypically, at least) as men - nevertheless want to keep having regular PIV sex in the way that a man naturally would do. In the same way, TM who want to reject everything about femaleness and yet still go on to get pregnant and give birth to a baby. There must be a significant number of them, given the ubiquitous obsession amongst the NHS and official bodies with using misogynistic terms like 'birthing parent' and 'chestfeeding'.

The cognitive dissonance is deafening, and does rather suggest that those deliberately wanting to be rid of their sex and yet still retain it (and its benefits) are trying to take the rest of us for absolute fools.

It is quite expensive to have surgery and if many have other psychological problems their earnings might be quite low to be able to afford it and time off work to recover. Also they might have found out that surgery can leave pain etc or they might want children

If on the NHS then the costs would only relate to time off work, which most people would get some form of sick pay for. Annual leave could also be used to cover recovery time.

So I don't think in the UK it's an issue of wanting to have surgery but not being able to afford it. Look at people like Jordan Gray who seems quite happy to keep their male genitalia, and indeed show it off as part of their "comedy" routine.

That might well be the case and it's a pity if so, but it's not a justification for men to enter womens' safe spaces.

I'll admit I was shocked to read the Govt report that 50% of the trans-women in women's prisons already had a conviction for sexual assault.

I think I've found my stance now.

I’m a big sports fan. I play golf to a decent standard, I hold a season ticket at a Championship club, and I’m going to the Test Match at Lord’s next week. This lot means that I talk to a lot of men about sport, both on line and IRL.

Almost every single man who has expressed a view to me regarding blokes being allowed to compete in women’s sports views it as fundamentally unsafe and completely fucking ridiculous. “Farcical” is a frequently used word. Many of these guys are fathers of daughters and wouldn’t want a trans-identified male in her changing room, or tackling her on the football pitch.

I’m convinced that using sport is the best way to highlight the absurdity of TWAW to men. Using humour & ridicule would be a highly effective, if controversial tactic.

Are you a member of the MCC? Because the current management are very TWAW, and have engaged in some fairly heated debates with members who wish to preserve womens cricket for women.

if you are, please look into this, and add your support.

anyolddinosaur · 23/06/2023 17:13

Certainly not just biological women, some men too. However the homophobic males are quite happy to have some homosexual or bisexual men out of their toilets and into women's.

TheBiologyStupid · 23/06/2023 18:40

Not sure that's true, I don't see how the presence or absence of gay or bisexual men would be of any concern to most men?

OnAPostItNote · 23/06/2023 22:28

I don’t really understand why this question is being posed? Of course women are going to be more vocal and threatened by men who invade their loos, prisons, sports and changing rooms.

Well yes, but the odd thing is that it's also women who are more vocally TWAW.
