The police are not looking for anyone else, we know how this generally unfolds.

RIP Dawid, Maja and Monika. Sorry society has failed yet another family, I can't see an end to this.

No, I don't @jannier. I don't go reaching for unlikely events and scenarios with zero evidence because I can't cope with the distasteful fact that men are responsible for well over 90% of murders.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/06/2023 19:04

We live in a world now where judgement is made Purley on gender

It's based on sex because over 90% of violent crimes are committed by men. Has that entirely passed you by? Do you live under a rock?

LoobiJee · 18/06/2023 19:05

WhiteFire · 18/06/2023 18:56

Society as a whole, whatever the circumstances these individuals have been failed whether that's the police, mental health services whatever. Do you truly believe that these things happen in a vacuum?

These incidents happen when there’s a controlling man who takes a decision to escalate up to the final stage of his control of the family: controlling whether they live or die.

Across society there isn’t full understanding of that. Lots of people buy into the ‘crime of passion’ myth, the ‘loss of control’ myth, the ‘no way to predict these things’ myth, and the ‘poor guy, he must have been having a really thought time to do something like that’ myth.

So those myths and that lack of understanding is something which society needs to address.

ArabeIIaScott · 18/06/2023 19:08

Also: dv escalates. Men won't generally be violent out of nowhere. Almost always this follows a pattern of coercion, control, and abuse.

If there was better awareness of the dynamic and the issues, we may actually be better able to get a grip on the issue, as a society.

StephanieSuperpowers · 18/06/2023 19:15

Yes. The idea that you wale up one morning and perpetuate this gross, excess violence after a life of entirely blameless behaviour is extraordinary.

This is a case where those wringing their hands about how men might feel about being confronted by the end result of domestic violence really need to go away and avail themselves of the golden opportunity to have a good old read about the subject.

How can it be a murder suicide when The force described it as "a terrible incident" and revealed that no other parties were currently being sought.

Confusing.

Also, nobody needs to be insulting the man without knowing what's going on.

Murder suicide means that 3 were murdered and the remaining one took their own life. So no external suspects etc.

ilovemyspace · 18/06/2023 19:39

The body language in the photo posted by the OP says a lot.

OhBling · 18/06/2023 19:39

It's a sad truth that of course we all assume that it's a murder suicide, by the man. And even sadder that we will all most likely be right.

WomenShouldStillWinWomensSports · 18/06/2023 16:39

Bit of a leap here! Could have been carbon monoxide for all we know. I think maybe wait until the details come out before assuming something when no one knows what happened.

The Metropolitan Police's investigation is being led by homicide detectives.

Exactly this.

I'm not guessing who did what to whom in this tragic scenario. I'll wait for the police update to confirm what happened.

However I immediately thought the body language was strange - the children staying close to the mother and the father off to one side with no physical connection to the family group.

Speaks volumes.

Nellodee · 18/06/2023 19:55

Studies show that familicides (where a parent kills children and spouse) as opposed to filicides (where a parent kills a child) are “almost exclusively committed by men”.

I don’t like to speculate, but in cases like this, there is really very little point in suspecting anyone but the husband. It’s almost certainly the woman and children who were the victims here and there seems something distasteful to me in suggesting that we won’t be certain until more details come out.

It really is always the man.

Why do men kill their families? Here's what the research says

I agree. A neighbour has come out to say he threw stones at her cat. He sounds lovely.

Nellodee Thank you. I'll check out those links.

Don't talk wet. Of COURSE it was the man who was the killer @jannier

As has been said, if you want to protect and defend da menz, go start your own thread.

When it emerges it IS the man, you'd better come back on here and apologise -and admit you're wrong.

Well..... You know what the experts say about people (usually MALES) who abuse and harm animals. Hmm Hardly surprising that this MAN has killed his family if he is happy to harm animals. Hope he rots in hell.

Pardon....apologies for saying wait for the investigation what is wrong with waiting rather than rushing in these people have families? Whatever statistics say there is always a percentage chance it is not the dad or not the dad on his own or we would all be saying put men on an island

Calling · 18/06/2023 22:35

Clymene · 18/06/2023 18:23

According to the Counting Dead Women Twitter account, 47 women have been killed by men so far this year.

Is that just in the UK alone?

WhiteFire · 18/06/2023 22:38

Calling · 18/06/2023 22:35

Is that just in the UK alone?

Yes. The figures for the US is much higher, in part due to the easier access to guns.

what’s wrong with you.

its plain as glass

the dad killed the mum and his children

History has shown again and again that it is overwhelmingly men that carry out these acts. After which one are we going to put all men on an island?

OP posts:
Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 18/06/2023 23:25

@jannier

This is not the place or time.

Rightfully, women come on here in response to this terrible event to vent their anger and frustration.

We know not all men are like this, its obvious. There are many decent men around. You don't need to keep saying it here.

Saying wait for the investigation is not defending it is saying don't be a lynch mob, we are supposed to be civilised women not cowboys stringing up on the nearest tree.
