It's amazing how many men are currently using the 'passionate about LGBT' or 'defending transpeople' as an excuse when they've made bigoted, misogynistic, threatening or sexually abusive comments. What will they see as the next get-out-of-jail-free card when this one ends?

Indeed. Nasty comments from men keen to tar women as disproportionately bigoted ('misandrist' and 'feminazi' in a new guise) are the soft end of the male VAWG spectrum.

You are joking. Wickes online stock checker is notoriously shit, saying things are in stock when they're not leading to many a wasted journey. The quality of their paint etc is awful along with many other issues

Sorry to hear it, that's not been my experience. And from product reviews eg
https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Vinyl-Silk-Emulsion-Paint---Pure-Brilliant-White---10L/p/122430
(82 5, 3 1) clearly plenty of people have found their paint satisfactory.

Curious, the Consumer Association reviews (which involve comparative testing) mostly have Wickes in the lower half of the test table. The most recent I saw was for washable paint if you want to check for yourself.

Their best buy was "Good Home" which is B&Q's own brand and scored as well as the top premium brand.

Could people who do their own DIY have an identity? I could do presentations at work about how stunning & brave I am & discuss how I prefer eggshell to Matt proving I’m just that little more special?

Plus, I speak from the experience of having to live in a flat painted with it. It marked just looking at it, after 12 months it needed a full repaint.

Aye, I could present to all the time served trades that I work adjacent too. After all identifying into the trades is so much better.

Helleofabore · 17/06/2023 14:04

I am all for people who believe that Wickes are high quality for supporting their COO supporting them with their purchases. Good for you. Go for it! Fill your boots. People should definitely support companies which make statements you fully endorse.

Taken out of context, apparently 🙄

From the letter: - [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] .

Everyone needs to email these people and they need to be told we aren't buying their 'taken out of context bs'. And where's their support for their biological women employees on that letter who may feel upset and worried that if they believe women should have single sex safe spaces, they are 'bigots'?

I need to learn how to post stuff from Twitter, a great tweet saying I know your having a tough day, but I have an idea of how you can turn that around, with a photo of Dylan Mulvaney outside a Wickes store

From the Consumers’ Association website
www.which.co.uk/news/article/how-to-paint-your-living-room-or-bedroom-for-100-even-if-youve-never-done-it-before-aVLKh5x1BbOK
“Our basket of decorating essentials cost £20 more at Screwfix compared with B&Q and Homebase. But with paint included, Wickes was the cheapest store by a small margin.”

www.which.co.uk/reviews/best-and-worst-shops/article/best-shops/best-home-and-diy-shops-auwlu0o139xJ#best-diy-and-decorating-shops
75% customer satisfaction score, better than Homebase & B&Q, against Screwfix at the top with 83% and Toolstation 82%

Anyway, hope anyone actually engaged in any DIY is having success with their projects this weekend - and delaying any painting until the temperature is such that you can keep a wet edge on a surface larger than a matchstick.

WickedSerious · 17/06/2023 14:20

They won't be getting any more of my Nazi gold but I might have some stickers for their nearest branch.

Helleofabore · 17/06/2023 14:20

Honestly, I encourage any person who wishes to support Wickes should do so and make up their own minds.

Always be very wary of reviews that discuss how wonderful everything looks after it is done. The proof is in the living after all.

Go for it!!

Price != Quality as Which make clear in their qualitative tests. I was looking at the latter as I made clear.

Customer reviews are not objective measures, just perceptions which tend to be gather shortly after the work. I loved one job I did with cheap paint, if you had asked me three months later I'd have been swearing about it.

Which is why I look at actual test results rather than opinions, before spending cash.

Helleofabore · 17/06/2023 14:30

Yes. Anyone with a longer term history of DIY knows ‘cheap’ means ‘cheap’ when it comes to paint and fixtures.

Great to make a place look good immediately, but not great months later if you have to live in it.

I am laughing though at poster’s attempts to convince people otherwise though. Either very low bar for standards long term or no idea about the realities of DIY.

Well, they aren't obliged to accept money from anyone who they find morally reprehensible

That's an interesting business strategy. Turn it around and of course customers aren't obliged to give money to any business they find morally reprehensible. Let's see how that works out for them.

Wouldn't the Equality Act apply?

Can they say, "no GC customers", or is that legally like saying, "no Asian customers"?

He was saying that customers aren't welcome, "if they behave that way".

Does anyone know what he means?

Behave in a certain way inside the store?

Or you aren't welcome if you have the wrong attitude?
