Go to any industrial estate there is a Wickes, but also a ScrewFix, ToolStation, B&Q plus all the other local suppliers. They might be surprised about quite how many people decide they don't want to buy anything from Wickes any more!

Thank you Neighbourhoodwatch

Dulux Decorators centres are really good for dulux trade.

Dulux Decorators centres are really good for dulux trade.

They also paint-match other brands. We just got our chosen Farrow & Ball colour mixed at a Dulux centre, paid substantially less and were very happy with it.

When we refurbed our bathroom, our trusted builder/decorator (he's done loads of work for us over the years - garage conversion, ground floor extension, redecorating, and many small odd jobs) asked us to supply the paint. We got some from Wickes and he moaned continually about how it was the worst paint that he'd ever used. The bathroom needs redecorating - guess where we definitely won't be going...!

Not really a job they would be interested in. They prefer bigger jobs.

Your jobs not big, you're not coming in.

Hepwo · 16/06/2023 23:18

You can get your biology modernised at Wickes. Mishy gave me the nod.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 16/06/2023 23:41

Only if you want six figures of work done. They don't accept smaller sums than that.

Brokendaughter · 17/06/2023 01:30

Wickes is where you go if you find real builders merchants too intimidating because you have zero clue what you are doing, or can't get an account at one.

I second this. I’m never getting consumer grade paint again. Trade paint all the way. And the colour match. Tikurilla paint is the best one.

I'm keeping this thread for the paint tips. 😁

It's amazing how many men are currently using the 'passionate about LGBT' or 'defending transpeople' as an excuse when they've made bigoted, misogynistic, threatening or sexually abusive comments. What will they see as the next get-out-of-jail-free card when this one ends?

Helleofabore · 17/06/2023 09:43

I am loving the fact that I am not alone in my DIY adventures!!! Many of my friends don’t do their own DIY and think I am strange for doing it myself. But here on this thread, I feel SEEN!!!

Yes! I have found Wickes ‘emulsion’ is not something I would ever use again. Dulux at the minimum.

Tricyrtis2022 · 17/06/2023 09:56

@Helleofabore we do all the DIY we're capable of and have rarely paid for work to be done because we like knowing how to do things ourselves.

So many good tips on paint here, I need to make notes!

WhiteFire · 17/06/2023 09:57

You'll need banners.

"DIY Lives Matter"

"DIY Rights are Human Rights"

"DIY is here to stay"

And a flag, always need a flag.

Tricyrtis2022 · 17/06/2023 09:59

To paraphrase a classic line: 'Banners? We no need no stinking banners'

Something colourful with a wee hammer and paintbrush on it.

Step away from the circular saw.

SkiingIsHeaven · 17/06/2023 10:32

You can say it's out of context all you like Wickes but I will never set foot in that place ever again.

I need some stuff for a diy project today but they won't be getting their hands on my bigoted money.

Your jobs not big, you're not coming in.

They were interested in my just about 3 figures job. Interested enough to send a rep 50 odd miles to my rural location to give me a quote. We went with a local carpenter for bespoke, hand built in solid wood because it was cheaper than the rather shoddy looking by comparison Wickes offerings.
They haven’t lost a customer with me, I already thought they were pretty crap and overpriced with it.

Florissante · 17/06/2023 10:54

Which? magazine rates Wickes kitchens at the bottom of the table.

Wickes Showroom got a 65% rating and Wickes Ready to Fit got a 61% out of 297 responses.

OldGardinia · 17/06/2023 11:00

So just got back from my local B&Q which I hadn't visited before. Was delighted to find they have a pretty extensive garden centre attached. Prices on tools etc. wise pretty much of a muchness with Wickes but slightly wider range. Particularly on larger items. Anyway £54 in their pocket rather than Wickes as Wickes say they don't want me in their store. Every little helps?
