Am looking forward to tomorrow’s debate on the Equality Act. Anyone else planning to watch it?

whilst we wait i've got a new laptop that isn't nearly 15 years old and its all zoomy and quick and is letting me actually have the little window within a window thingy on my screen.

ITS ACE! I'm loving the 21st century! finally!

This is an explanation, basically so they can vote.

The sitting of a general committee may at any time be suspended informally by the Chair, in which case they will announce to the committee that the sitting is suspended and that they will resume the Chair at a certain hour.1 This usually occurs when an afternoon sitting of a committee has continued for more than about two-and-a-half hours, in order to provide a break. It should be noted, however, that when a division is called in the House or in a Committee of the whole House, the Chair must suspend the proceedings for such time as will, in the Chair's opinion, enable Members to vote in the division and return to the committee.2 This is generally held to be 15 minutes for a single division. In accordance with Standing Order No 124 as applied to general committees by Standing Order No 89, if at any time during the sitting a quorum is not present the Chair must suspend the proceedings until a quorum is present, or adjourn the committee until some future day.

Adults proper adulting. At last!

Ramblingnamechanger · 12/06/2023 16:48

Why can’t they have have electronic voting which would mean less time walking around and a bit more concentration on the matter in hand?

chilling19 · 12/06/2023 16:48

Iwanttoretire - I think it is difficult to see existing threads sometimes - not sure why this is. I use the app and don't always see all the current threads, so I think the person that set up this one probably had the same experience. I wish Mumsnet would allow pinned threads - that could help.

Giggorata · 12/06/2023 16:51

Is there any way of finding out who is attending this?
Apart from Hansard afterwards, I mean.
I haven't seen my MP het and if he doesn't attend, I will give him a piece of my mind. I’ve been writing to him for long enough…
Also which thread is the correct one? Confused..

FriendofJoanne · 12/06/2023 16:51

Yes pinned threads and also would love to be able to comment on posts via emojis - the poster snaffling the biccies gets a laughing emoji from me - mmm tasty 😆

chilling19 · 12/06/2023 16:53

Especially when those surgeries haven't included the bottom half!! As we all know most men don't have that done, and so a pair of knockers does not give you the right to go to the loo in the women's toilets unless you are actually a woman.

So how are you going to know? Genital inspections or ID on entry? This really is going to be hard for women who look slightly masculine - and I dare say there are more than there are transwomen, getting challenged in the bathroom. Oh the web that has been spun.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 12/06/2023 16:58

With the clever use of eyes, @MishyJDI

We can easily tell the difference between a man, a woman, and a man in a dress.

Ramblingnamechanger · 12/06/2023 16:58

Oh Mishy, you are so predictable . we all know who is who and if men stopped trying to gain access to our facilities, the problem would vanish. No need to worry about us women, we know and we can sort ourselves out thank you.

Neither! I know who is a man and who isn't. You know as well as the rest of us the majority of the time you can tell one sex from the other. Ive never had any problem in real life telling a man from a woman, even when the men are effeminate and the women more masculine. If you can't tell then I suggest you book yourself an opticians appointment and and hearing test whilst your at it.

FriendofJoanne · 12/06/2023 17:00

Are we going over to the other thread?

Monkmeister · 12/06/2023 17:03

It's what we evolved to do. To ensure the continuation of the species.

flit back and forth between threads in search of the best biscuits?

FriendofJoanne · 12/06/2023 17:05

Me too - I have both open! No biscuits though, need to stop eating them as I gained too much weight with all the sex and gender nonsense stressing me out

AmuseBish · 12/06/2023 17:42

I look slightly masculine and can assure you it's never been a problem. Please don't continue to tell me it will be hard for me, Mishy, as it's not true.

I'd have to be questioning myself every time I look in the mirror if it was the case!

JanesLittleGirl · 12/06/2023 17:47

I've seen a number of references to RMW's surgery. Was that a total empathy bypass?

Boiledbeetle · 12/06/2023 17:47

😁

TheBiologyStupid · 13/06/2023 01:09

QuickWash · 12/06/2023 15:00

Again, I have a smidge of sympathy for RMW here. They have been caught up in (and are guilty of perpetuating) the complete lie that if you do xyz then you will qualify, or pass, or have the legal status of a women. It just isn't true and they can rail and rant against it but at some point they will have to acknowledge that you cannot force other people to believe something they just don't. No matter what you pay/go through/chop off/add on/wear you are still male and will be all of your life. So sad to waste so much energy fighting it.

Absolutely this!

GailBlancheViola · 13/06/2023 11:23

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 16:45

Not sure why this thread was set up as already posted yesterday there was an existing thread with background material.

Would have been more sisterly to have not continued this thread then!

But too late now.

Are you a teacher @IwantToRetire ? You speak to posters on this site as if they are a bunch of naughty schoolchildren who you are trying to coral into line.

It really doesn't matter if there is more than one thread on a subject, to jump to it being 'not sisterly' whatever the fuck that is is ridiculous, it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things which thread individual posters post their thoughts and opinions on. We are adults and can decide for ourselves do, please, stop talking down to us and trying to control where posters post or what threads they start you are not the Head Honcho of MN or this board.
