Am looking forward to tomorrow’s debate on the Equality Act. Anyone else planning to watch it?

Labour MP Siobhan McDonagh supported Maya.

thinking about it it isn't such an odd choice of word 'somatically' given that in medicine it is used to discuss somatoform disorders
What are the somatoform disorders?

  • Somatisation disorder.
  • Hypochondriasis.
  • Conversion disorder.
  • Body dysmorphic disorder.
  • Pain disorder.

Anyone who has the stomach for it should read RMW's blog. It is very clear that there is an expectation that having paid for multiple surgeries, RMW feels they have earned the right to use whatever facilities they choose.

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 14:40

not often I get to write a thank you card to a Labour MP. Makes a nice change.

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 14:41

I don't care how many surgeries someone has; a male cannot earn the right to use women's spaces. It doesn't matter how much said male wants to use women's spaces, women's feelings ALSO matter.

Especially when those surgeries haven't included the bottom half!! As we all know most men don't have that done, and so a pair of knockers does not give you the right to go to the loo in the women's toilets unless you are actually a woman.

QuickWash · 12/06/2023 15:00

Again, I have a smidge of sympathy for RMW here. They have been caught up in (and are guilty of perpetuating) the complete lie that if you do xyz then you will qualify, or pass, or have the legal status of a women. It just isn't true and they can rail and rant against it but at some point they will have to acknowledge that you cannot force other people to believe something they just don't. No matter what you pay/go through/chop off/add on/wear you are still male and will be all of your life. So sad to waste so much energy fighting it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/06/2023 15:05

How can Crispin Blunt say "it would be terrible for people to have to use facilities they don't feel comfortable in" and not be able to think that through? What does that mean for WOMEN?

Because Crispin Blunt is a misogynistic arsehole.

xabia · 12/06/2023 15:08

Siobhain I think. I feel an email message of support coming on!

Boiledbeetle · 12/06/2023 15:10

It would be so much easier if men would just accept that just as women wear shirts and trousers, men can wear skirts, tights and high heels (god knows why they would want to mind it is a most impractical clothes decision in just about every situation i can think of) and the world won't come to a grinding halt.

Because the more I hear people on the trans side of the debate talk the more I become convinced that there really is nothing to this apart from how they present the outside version of themselves and some special feelings they have that they can't or won't quantify in any rational sense.

And if that's all they are willing to say then I'm not willing to let them in my spaces because that isn't good enough.

Siobhan Mcdonagh's Twitter suspended. Is she getting a pile on?

Forwarder · 12/06/2023 15:30

Can anyone tell me what point in the bbc programme to jump to for Maya interview?

xabia · 12/06/2023 15:33

So we have two males - Robin and Crispin - telling women what they must do and what they must accept and giving no thought or consideration to whether or not that suits women, no thought or consideration for the feelings of women it is ALL about the males. The sheer breath taking hypocrisy and extreme selfishness on full display AGAIN, a feature not a bug.

Has she temporarily deactivated or is she suspended?

Hmm not many in the Chamber, and still wittering on about Retained EU Law Bill

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 16:32

Tonia Antoniazzi talking now.

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 16:33

Layla Moran says her constituents are afraid this is going to be talked about.

That's the point of a debate, Layla.

PoshCoffee · 12/06/2023 16:34

Sit down Layla. It’s not courteous to interrupt so early on

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 16:34

Layla's got a criminal record for assault, I'd not expect manners from her.

Loved Tonia politely reminding her they are legislators and it is their job to have these debates.
