No I don't want a pride sticker thank you, I just want my pint of milk

I was asked at my local Co-op earlier if I wanted a pride sticker with my pint of milk. No, I don't. I just want to shop without pride this that and the other. It was the alphabet soup flag version. The overly enthusiastic young man was quite taken aback by my I certainly do not response but I am so fed up of it being everywhere and what does it even mean anymore? I'm all for everyone having equal human rights. That's it.
I've had so many emails from M&S, Waitrose, Co-op, and others all about supporting pride month. Vinted now flashes a rainbow heart before it turns red when I favourite items.
The young man in question above is far too over familiar and needs to tone it đown a bit from scarily wishing my teenager a pleasant existence to just normal pleasant customer service. I could have asked him what the sticker was all about and got into a discussion with him but that's not his job and I don't want to get banned 😁
The heat makes me cranky but I've seriously had enough of this now. Will it ever stop or will more and more be added to that rather full flag of many colours until the original meaning is completely lost? Will we ever be able to shop without identity politics coming into it?

The opposite in my area. Pride is barely registering! Lots of companies seem to have not participated.

Profit before pride it seems.

I think the rainbow washing has run it's course. Lgb is completely normalised & they are fully intergraded into normal, functioning society. No need for rainbows to provide visibility anymore because they are accepted.

How annoying when you just want to buy milk!

Women get one lousy day a year. And that's often got men derailing it.

You were offered. You declined. Can't see the issue

Exactly, same

Myalternate · 10/06/2023 23:16

My nearest Co-Op is totally Pride free 👍

Gettingbysomehow · 10/06/2023 23:16

I've had none of this in Somerset.

Heterosexual people can have kinks too you know.....you do sound homophobic.

coffeedrinkers · 10/06/2023 23:34

You said no and that was that, what's your point? Don't see any issue.

55balloons · 10/06/2023 23:36

I really can't relate as I said above.. Pride is a non event in my area especially compared to previous years.

noimaginationforausername · 10/06/2023 23:37

The Vinted heart irrationally pissed me off! Our co-op is full of pride as well and I don't want a sticker because I'm not 5!

KnitMePurlMe · 10/06/2023 23:40

Why is there a competition at the moment to outdo each other on how little you give a shit about Pride?

The idea that there is no homophobia anymore and no more need for Pride is terrifyingly naive 😢.

MyNameisMathilda · 10/06/2023 23:43

We have a Pride knitted top on the village postbox.

55balloons · 10/06/2023 23:46

@KnitMePurlMe because companies are thinking about their bottom like. Their goal is to make a profit. The tq links have received huge backlash.. Look at Bud lite, Target & Nike in the US.. Innocent smoothies, Oxfam etc.. Because they championed tq ideologies.
That's why lgb need to break away pronto. The TRAs have completely taken over the Pride parade in many towns & cities. My lgb friends avoid the parade for this very reason & don't support Pride.

Surely that would make you a bit more sympathetic then?

They can, yes. I wonder what would happen if you had a heterosexual BDSM display in public.

Deliberately provocative for kicks, or just plain old homophobic?

Where did you pull BDSM from.....

The poster did not mention BDSM or anything specific, the poster seems to be implying that a same sex relationship is a kink, therefore I called them out as homophobic.

Because it's not uncommon to have BDSM stuff at Pride parades.

A recent example:

I am actually feeling really overwhelmed with all the things, not just Pride.

In my job I am expected to put up posters and materials for whatever the current "thing" is. I keep getting advertising for all of them too, from every company I've ever bought something from. There are changing banners all year in my city center, cancer, Pride, Violence against women, autism, etc. My university is constantly sending out emails about who they are "standing behind" as does my kids' school.

I am possibly a bit of a skeptic by nature, but i am certainly not a cynic, and I believe in community engagement and helping others. I give a lot of time and money to charitable work. But I find myself not caring about any of it, doubting whether some are real problems or even genuine appeals, the effectiveness of most of it.
