No I don't want a pride sticker thank you, I just want my pint of milk

I was asked at my local Co-op earlier if I wanted a pride sticker with my pint of milk. No, I don't. I just want to shop without pride this that and the other. It was the alphabet soup flag version. The overly enthusiastic young man was quite taken aback by my I certainly do not response but I am so fed up of it being everywhere and what does it even mean anymore? I'm all for everyone having equal human rights. That's it.
I've had so many emails from M&S, Waitrose, Co-op, and others all about supporting pride month. Vinted now flashes a rainbow heart before it turns red when I favourite items.
The young man in question above is far too over familiar and needs to tone it đown a bit from scarily wishing my teenager a pleasant existence to just normal pleasant customer service. I could have asked him what the sticker was all about and got into a discussion with him but that's not his job and I don't want to get banned 😁
The heat makes me cranky but I've seriously had enough of this now. Will it ever stop or will more and more be added to that rather full flag of many colours until the original meaning is completely lost? Will we ever be able to shop without identity politics coming into it?

@Meadowfly exactly how I feel too - I'm afraid the constant obsession of the media and press with the Trans community is ridiculous. I have no issue whatsoever if someone wants to be so but It's a pretty small niche getting massive attention - all the time and I feel it distracts the message of LGB - I understand why some now are no longer interested in Pride-appears to be taken over by a load of pantomime Dames rather than ordinary homosexual couples of all ages . Can you imagine what good could be done if this amount of positive attention was given to disability or mental health or drugs awareness or the housing situation etc- guess it doesn't make for quite so colourful fun looking pictures.

It’s really interesting to hear that some LGB people are now steering clear of the movement. I couldn’t agree more with the PP who said “where I live, same-sex relationships aren’t stigmatised” or something along those lines.

I’d decline the sticker, too, for the reasons people have given above for avoiding the P movement now, and I am also heartily sick of the sight of the number of rainbows in my email inbox added by companies jumping on the virtue signalling bandwagon. Just sell your milk / flowers / clothes / whatever. That’s all I want from you.

It's being force fed innit !

Very OTT in a lot of places .

Nope lots of the high street have no virtue signalling in sight this June!
River Island, Next, H&M to name a few I saw locally & they also have nothing pride related online. Good on them, not necessary anymore. Lgb is normalised.
Can we have a neurodiversity month instead? Many young children would like to see their differences celebrated & it would make them feel more included in the community.

The Daily Mail, the Telegraph & the Times have been brilliant lately & are really questioning & reporting properly on the TRA ideologies. Good on them not being silenced & they are reporting what I want to read so I will support them in turn.

FrancescaContini · 11/06/2023 08:22

@Crikeyalmighty Disability/homelessness/mental health issues aren’t “sexy” or Insta-worthy, but I agree that they’re worthy of the attention given to the rainbow brigade as they sadly affect many many more people.

Longstanding Pride attendee - from the older days before it became popular as a corporate effort.

Lots of people I know have stopped going. Initially it was lesbian friends who dropped away, but interestingly it's now the gay men I know. All of whom say the same - that it doesn't represent them anymore. Many of them used to be Stonewall donors and active in grassroots efforts - so really committed to trying to make a difference.

I'm gay and I feel the same - I support equality and inclusion but for me, Pride in recent years seems to be more about straight allies being bussed in by the bank they work for and experiencing a fun day out in fancy dress waving a flag.

It feels like straight allies have taken it over and ruined it, and I think that's partly due to the corporates pouring money into it (thereby gaining control of the messaging and vibe) and partly due to the corporates telling their staff they need to be better allies by throwing themselves wholeheartedly into Pride celebrations so that the main consumer base of pride is straight people. No-one's realised that most of the gay people have left and it's now just a big piss-up for straight people to celebrate their own selflessness and inclusivity.

Anissue · 11/06/2023 08:29

I think you need to try turning off your phone, get out in nature or something, if a sticker is going to trigger you like this.

Fairislefandango · 11/06/2023 07:45

????? How is being able to have a relationship with someone your own sex a kink?????

If Pride were still mostly about gay men and lesbians, you might have a point. But it clearly isn't.

Quite. The deleted post was poorly worded but we all know what she meant. Grotesque straight men parading their obsessions and fantasies.

Anyway it is gone now and they have achieved their aim. Sigh.

I hope everyone who has seen that comment as homophobic has reported it as hate speech.

I did. And it’s been deleted Halo

BodegaSushi · 11/06/2023 08:34

Crikeyalmighty · 11/06/2023 06:33

Ok - I may get bashed for this but I do get fed up of the whole LGBT scene constantly being in the news/media. I don't care a monkeys what peoples sexuality is, I'm not remotely homophobic- - and it all seems to be largely about Trans too- it's rarely about two sensible 58 year old women together etc . If the LGBT crowd quite rightly expect normalisation then don't go around constantly expecting to be made a giant fuss of.

You'll get praised for this and anointed leader

BodegaSushi · 11/06/2023 08:35

Don't be disingenuous Sooty. And stop with this cancelling crap. It's what brought us to this sorry pass in the first place.

But you all just want to cancel pride 🥲

HereIfYouNeedMe · 11/06/2023 08:36

55balloons · 11/06/2023 07:10

@ilovesooty no I haven't. Thousands of Lgb people including close friends of mine are boycotting pride as if no longer represents them. Other groups have muscled in & taken over. Let's not pretend otherwise.
There's another thread on here about pride being toned down this year & many lgb posters commented about why they are no longer supporting. Have a read.

Can you link please x

To be honest, I wish we could just abandon labels completely. Have people identify purely as themselves in whatever way they present. I think labels are divisive and confusing, especially for young people trying to find their place, wondering before they even know who they are, what box they fit into.

But how are corporations meant to sell boxes if they don't exist?

RudsyFarmer · 11/06/2023 08:51

I’ve not had one communication re. pride. Not one email nor a sticker. I must be in a very intolerant area.

mondaytosunday · 11/06/2023 08:54

I don't see the issue. He offered, you declined, end of.

SkyandSurf · 11/06/2023 08:56

Was being offered a sticker the hardest thing that happened to you today?

Have a look at yourself

Or am area with not much commercial competition in terms of banks, supermarkets and other big businesses?

Crikeyalmighty · 11/06/2023 09:08

@55balloons I rarely agree with the Telegraph or Mail but on this occasion I do. The expression 'can we please focus on other things' comes to mind.

Crikeyalmighty · 11/06/2023 09:09

Or how about a 'mothers ' month !

Crikeyalmighty · 11/06/2023 09:12

Oh and by the way it's not an age thing. My 25 year old London living son is labour voting and pretty 'right on' and he thinks it's a load of nonsense too geared these days to the 'look at me'

FlamingMadKatie · 11/06/2023 09:17

@55balloons has put this perfectly. The successful and hard-fought integration of gay and lesbian individuals and families is in danger of losing ground by the tagging on of women-hating drag queens, sexual predators who claim to identify as women, floats carrying people in bondage gear etc.

Much harder to feel pride wearing a rainbow these days when its meaning has been subverted.

55balloons · 11/06/2023 09:20

RudsyFarmer · 11/06/2023 08:51

Opposite in fact. You must live in a very tolerent area where lgb is completely normalised & people don't bat an eyelid..

My gay friends roll their eyes at the rainbow washing & virtue signalling. It does not define or represent them. Lgb & tq are entirely seperate groups, it's time for lgb to break away & not supporting pride is one of the ways they can seperate themselves.

AutisticLegoLover · 11/06/2023 09:21

So many posters have written exactly what I have failed to say. It's not about the LGB it's all the rest of the alphabet who have tagged on and taken over to the point it's not really about LGB anymore. Does any other group get a whole month or is it just pride? Why do most groups get a day but pride gets a month and why do the shops and big companies jump for pride but not anything else?
