No I don't want a pride sticker thank you, I just want my pint of milk

I was asked at my local Co-op earlier if I wanted a pride sticker with my pint of milk. No, I don't. I just want to shop without pride this that and the other. It was the alphabet soup flag version. The overly enthusiastic young man was quite taken aback by my I certainly do not response but I am so fed up of it being everywhere and what does it even mean anymore? I'm all for everyone having equal human rights. That's it.
I've had so many emails from M&S, Waitrose, Co-op, and others all about supporting pride month. Vinted now flashes a rainbow heart before it turns red when I favourite items.
The young man in question above is far too over familiar and needs to tone it đown a bit from scarily wishing my teenager a pleasant existence to just normal pleasant customer service. I could have asked him what the sticker was all about and got into a discussion with him but that's not his job and I don't want to get banned 😁
The heat makes me cranky but I've seriously had enough of this now. Will it ever stop or will more and more be added to that rather full flag of many colours until the original meaning is completely lost? Will we ever be able to shop without identity politics coming into it?

Where did you pull BDSM from.....

The poster did not mention BDSM or anything specific, the poster seems to be implying that a same sex relationship is a kink, therefore I called them out as homophobic.

All of these groups are part of what is now called the "queer" community, not because the people are necessarily same sex attracted, but because queer includes all kinds of things. This is what all those flags are for.

If being queer can include wanting to screw people dressed up as animals, being into free love, or only wanting to have sex with people you love, you should not be surprised when people are inclined to reject Pride.

They can, yes. I wonder what would happen if you had a heterosexual BDSM display in public.

You mean like all over the tv and books or do you forget how much of a success 50 shades was ?

KnitMePurlMe · 10/06/2023 23:40

Why is there a competition at the moment to outdo each other on how little you give a shit about Pride?

The idea that there is no homophobia anymore and no more need for Pride is terrifyingly naive 😢.

I’m not homophobic. But why do we have to have a whole month of rainbows everywhere? It’s just annoying. It makes me feel like I'm being told what to think all the time.

Clafoutie · 11/06/2023 00:19

Deliberately provocative for kicks, or just plain old homophobic?

Both I imagine.

55balloons · 11/06/2023 00:58

@MumblesParty the rainbow washing seems to be going out of fashion. So toned down this year, obviously an executive marketing decision was made not to recognise it.

River Island for one hasn't a rainbow in sight, nothing online or in store. No need the shop is as manic as every, super busy.

Yeah it might be popular with straight people, but I was questioning what would happen if they did it in a public parade.

55balloons · 11/06/2023 01:02

Next & H&M are another too major brands who are not marketing pride this year. It seems like a very conscious marketing decision especially considering the boycott culture sweeping in from the USA. Much safer for companies now to have no opinions or political associations. Just sell shoes, clothes etc & remember you go Woke you Go broke

55balloons · 11/06/2023 01:03

Two not too!

DiscoBeat · 11/06/2023 01:05

Very homophobic post!

LifeIsPainHighness · 11/06/2023 01:19

My local Sainsburys has a permanent poster outside that says “We support the LGBTQ+ community”.

HOW?!

By putting a poster up?

It’s so fucking patronising and meaningless. Gay people have spent decades fighting homophobia and lobbying for equality, I highly doubt they ever thought “Wow I just wish a supermarket would have a rainbow poster”

Homophobic. Being gay is not a kink

starfishmummy · 11/06/2023 01:59

@noimaginationforausername

I don't want a sticker because I'm not 5!

Exactly this! And that would apply to any sticker, not just a Pride one.

Heterosexual people can have kinks too you know.....you do sound homophobic.

Agree.

Literally this! Blatant homophobia.

@KnitMePurlMe because companies are thinking about their bottom like. Their goal is to make a profit. The tq links have received huge backlash.. Look at Bud lite, Target & Nike in the US.. Innocent smoothies, Oxfam etc.. Because they championed tq ideologies.
That's why lgb need to break away pronto. The TRAs have completely taken over the Pride parade in many towns & cities. My lgb friends avoid the parade for this very reason & don't support Pride.

That is a great typo 🤣

We have a Pride knitted top on the village postbox.

Love those knitted / crochet hats

I think the point OP was making is just that. Pride has been been taken over by myriad ' identities' that have nothing to do with being gay or bi?

ODFODPurlease · 11/06/2023 04:41

I hope everyone who has seen that comment as homophobic has reported it as hate speech.

Shock

It is just a sticker - I would suggest get over it as there are a lot of other things that are more concerning in the world.

Crikeyalmighty · 11/06/2023 06:33

Ok - I may get bashed for this but I do get fed up of the whole LGBT scene constantly being in the news/media. I don't care a monkeys what peoples sexuality is, I'm not remotely homophobic- - and it all seems to be largely about Trans too- it's rarely about two sensible 58 year old women together etc . If the LGBT crowd quite rightly expect normalisation then don't go around constantly expecting to be made a giant fuss of.

Dear me
What a poor choice of vocabulary.
