Can anyone please shed light on this?! The last time I checked only women can get periods & it's been that way since time began! Am I seriously missing something?

But their own mission statement is either contradictory or admits it excludes women that do not menstruate? It’s gender inclusive but not people inclusive. It reads like it’s more important to include a trans woman than it is to include a woman who has gone through the menopause or doesn’t have periods for any other reason? If I no longer menstruated then the term ‘menstruators’ would literally not apply to me, and would not be all inclusive at all. The same as ALL terms aren’t all inclusive!

Female people exist. That is people with bodies organised around the production of large, immobile gametes, whether or not they actually produce said gametes. Such people form a coherent group with the shared characteristic of being female. We used to call this group of people women (and girls for youngsters). To tell this group of people they can no longer call themselves women is to deny women the language we need to talk about ourselves as a group, our shared experiences and shared discriminations. It is to deny us the language that links us to all other women throughout the world, throughout history and throughout our lifetimes.

People who don't identify as women have periods, I personally don't have any issue using more inclusive language.

Trying to reframe this as a statement about men or transwomen menstruating is a tad disengenous.

Whether they identify as a woman or not is irrelevant
If they have periods they are biologically women
Men don't have wombs therefore cannot have periods, period. They may have short hair, wear dungarees and call themselves men but biology doesn't lie. Only women bleed

@forgotmyusername1 exactly & they have deleted their tweet rather than standing by it. That in itself is a positive. Innocent & Oxfam have also deleted their horrible controversial tweets. The tide is turning!

@forgotmyusername1 - but it isn't claiming men have periods. It's just simply using the term "people who menstruate" which is inclusive of people who don't identify as women such as non-binary people or transmen.

I just don't see the issue here with being more inclusive rather than less.
