Anyone seen the tweet by Maya tonight about this little animation by Oxfam? Here’s the link:

Naomi Cunningham, a discrimination and employment law barrister, says the document may breach the Equality Actt_, which bans harassment in the workplace on the basis of sex.

Just putting it out there that I'd donate to any crowdfund for shop volunteers to take legal action against the hostile and toxic environment Oxfam has created for women.

So supporting child rapists and traffickers, demonising women, celebrating self harm and now hounding a woman out of her job for wrongthink

unherd.com/2023/06/i-quit-oxfam-over-jk-rowling/

That was a horrific article. So very Orwellian. Going by what ‘Maria’ said, she never actually made any trans related comments other than to ask for evidence of JKR’s transphobia. She, apparently, never tried to even argue that sex is immutable. Just spoke about freedom of speech (ironically).

Yet Oxfam seemed to frame the whole investigation as if she was another MF and the only issue was that the process wasn’t handled properly eg We believe that each member of our community has a right to their own religious or philosophical beliefs, including the belief that ‘sex is immutable’ and ‘sex is important’. We acknowledge that in dealing with your case and during the disciplinary process we made mistakes. We are sorry for the procedural mistakes we made in the handling of this case Nothing at all about the valid and bigger questions about censorship and why discuss banning JKR and not any other authors?

It is so illustrative and so worrying how easily and how fully captured are any and all liberal and ‘progressive’ people and organisations, from individuals in health and education policy to whole scale countries. This ideology surely could not have taken root so quickly and so comprehensively if it wasn’t on the back of dark undercurrents of misogyny. Still, I cannot understand my intelligent feminist colleagues who also adhere to TWAW. They are not misogynists. Or friends who are doctors. They are intelligent people.

For anyone cancelling their Oxfam contribution, Lumos is an excellent alternative.

ThePlasticScouser · 06/06/2023 08:35

Right, Oxfam book shop can F’off now. No longer donating or buying from them.

ValerieDoonican · 06/06/2023 08:45

@GulesMeansRed maybe you can make the window display green and purple themed at all times?

Yes this is exactly what I did. Switched my Oxfam monthly donation to Lumos.

That comparison spring to my mind too

Yes - very strongly reminiscent of 1930s totalitarian propaganda, from the USSR and Franco's Spain, as well as Germany. The trope of ordinary people being controlled by evil puppet masters behind the scenes is classically anti-Semitic too. It's impossible to believe that whoever came up with the Oxfam stuff is unaware of these resonances.

Hoppinggreen · 06/06/2023 08:49

So Feminism causes rape?
Fuck you Oxfam

I don't normally do boycotting, but I think it's safe to say that I'm now done with Oxfam

they can get to fuck

Indeed.

The phrase that instantly leaps to mind is the one about all it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to say nothing….

Izzy24 · 06/06/2023 08:59

PronounssheRa · 06/06/2023 07:05

Misogynistic and racist. Well done oxfam.

I can't boycott because I haven't give them a penny since I found out about the sexual abuse in Haiti.

Also agist

ShimmeringShirts · 06/06/2023 09:05

It’s a charity full of pedophiles and rapists, they warrant nothing more than disgust and ignoring.

DrBlackbird · 06/06/2023 09:05

However, the main Oxfam account is happily retweeting all the other countries that did tweet it. And the comments are all still open. They are very proud of their production.

There’s one determined poster defending Oxfam ’Evil Bee’ but not getting quite so many likes. A complete derail but can anyone explain the significance of the ‘bee’ for trans women? I’ve noticed this a few times now.

I can think of a few analogies with who does the actual work in a beehive, but they would probably get me banned..

HeddaGarbled · 06/06/2023 09:10

It’s a charity full of pedophiles and rapists

Well, obviously, it’s not. We can be angry about specific issues without that sort of hyperbole.

mumda · 06/06/2023 09:14

Is there anything the charity commission could deal with?

AgathaSpencerGregson · 06/06/2023 09:17

I hope you told them, and the reasons why?

Oops that was meant to be in response to those saying they’d cancelled their regular donations!

TrainedByCats · 05/06/2023 22:00

Wow isn’t this is the charity where their male aid workers were forcing women needing support in Haiti into prostitution

Hence I will never donate to them. Tbf, I never did anyway, lived in Oxford for years and had a pal who worked there, they wasted so much money on stuff it was shocking.

Well, obviously, it’s not. We can be angry about specific issues without that sort of hyperbole.

It's a charity which ENABLES paedophiles and rapists.

And has some alleged paedophiles and rapists who have worked there

There, fixed it.

With that ridiculous waffle about white women shouldn't report rapes or men be prosecuted for it, you can't really deny that. And they completely failed to investigate allegations of a 12 year old being raped by one of their workers. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/oxfam-child-abuse-haiti-scandal-inquiry-sexual-exploitation-charity-commission-a8953566.html

So, were they really helping Haitian people when they were there or just making the situation worse?

I mean really, who doesn't investigate allegations a 12 year old has been raped? A charity who doesn't see women and girls as human, that's who.

Datun · 06/06/2023 09:39

A judge has called the term TERF a slur. Surely that film is a violation of the equality act. What volunteer of theirs would dare say anything after that film?

And what horror allowed a statement about feminism perpetuating male violence, and bad men shouldn't be locked up, whilst their volunteers rape the girls they're sent to protect.

I hope the papers go absolutely mad on this.

Datun · 06/06/2023 09:39

And Yes that's obviously J. K. Rowling. Let's hope she's firing off an email to her lawyer as we speak.

When you blame women (white, or otherwise) for violence committed by men, while ignoring the men committing the actual violence, you are - as an organisation - enabling rape and paedophilia.

When you produce material aimed at shaming and silencing older women who speak up for the safeguarding of girls and of all gender non-conforming kids, you are - as an organisation - enabling rape and paedophilia.

When you force out a woman who questions your policies, and whip up a mob of her colleagues to bully her, you are silencing freedom of expression and enabling abuses of all kinds, including rape and paedophilia.

It was made in India for oxfam international - not sure, but lawyers will be looking at it no doubt. It is a hateful piece of work. Wonder how much it cost?
