Anyone seen the tweet by Maya tonight about this little animation by Oxfam? Here’s the link:

Oxfam has been advertising itself on facebook asking Mexicans for donations and I spelt out very clearly what its workers did to young Haitian earthquake victims and how head office covered up. Why it thinks Mexicans should donate to an English charity is beyond me.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 07/09/2023 14:50

Oxfam is an international charity, not an English (or even UK) one. There is an Oxfam Mexico.

Raping women and girls around the world.

I have never seen any kindness from Oxfam in Mexico.

As a former, disgruntled Oxfam volunteer, I still have to take issue with this.

Nobody is denying what went on in Haiti in 2010. But there is no basis in fact for stating that Oxfam or Oxfam workers/volunteers are "raping women around the world". Because they are not.

It is an international organisation, based in the UK but with independent affiliates in Mexico and other countries. Looking at the Oxfam Mexico site, they are campaigning around tax equality, the wall between Mexico/US, climate change, supporting work projects for women in Oaxaca. All there on their website - where interestingly there is no mention whatsoever of Pride, or LGBT anything. Mexicans are being asked to donate to a charity which supports projects in Mexico.

By all means give Oxfam a kicking for their "terf" video or Pride stuff. But at least get your facts straight.

Sorry, one thing is rogue employees, which a problem every big organization is exposed to, and another thing altogether is the cover-up from head office. And Mexico does not need to import NGOs

Because they didn't get caught.

A culture that normalises rape doesn't just pop up out of thin air.

Quite a few countries from the look of it, this article is worth reading

Oxfam is a number of different organizations under the same banner. Oxfam International is the international organisation Oxfam GB is British, encompassing England, Scotland and Wales. Not Northern Ireland, that part of Oxfam I/NI.
