The new British Cycling policy goes public at 11am tomorrow. Anyone dare to speculate on the outcome? Will it be a win for women?

"Do what I say or I'll hit you" is not really the functional behaviour of a healthy or successful person.

Oh, I don't know its pretty much how wars were won, by men against other men, since tribal times.

I would have liked to think homo sapiens had improved a bit by now though.

It's simple isn't it? Self ID. If you feel like a gold medal winner then you are.

Brilliant, would love to see the rush for the podium at medal time.

FannyCann · 28/05/2023 22:05

It'd almost be like a race @BluebellBlueballs

FannyCann · 28/05/2023 22:06

A race in which the fastest/elite wins I should have added.

I'm wondering what 'unhinged' actually looks like to a movement that thinks pouring piss over oneself while wearing a rubber duck mask is a devastating critique.

Indeed!

Erm…that’s a thing? <mind boggles>

Horrifyingly, yes.

(As a note to MNHQ, I do not use that particular term in the link myself- that is the chosen name of the group featured).

Jesus wept, that’s not the image I needed before going to bed.

And yet I’m so not surprised at such self-absorbed (or indeed absorbent) twattery.

These times often make me ponder the decadence of Ancient Rome. Maybe we should bring back the gladiators, last man alive wins? Seems like where we might be headed with the abandoning all boundaries and social norms brought about by the unholy alliance of queer theory and modern technology, transhumanism, neoliberal capitalism and an assortment of people with cluster B personality disorders and pathological people pleasers/martyrs/useful idiots/masochists.

That is such depressing reading.

What goes on in those pathetic, desperate male brains that makes them think “ OK, I am crap at racing against men, but I am a record breaking winner when I race against small weak women , and no transphobe can take that rush of triumphant glory, those shiny shiny medals and those crisp cheques away from me. I am a supreme champion.”

Do they not see that the rest of us see their “ victory” in the same light as a ten year old on a BMX crowing at beating a toddler on a balance bike?

I think banning TW from Breeze is completely unworkable anyway.

I disagree with this. All they need to do is apply the same criteria they are going to have to do with race licences: ask for sex and gender identity rather than gender.

There are already TW leading rides in Breeze and have done for years. I’d love to know the stats for those rides (BC will have them).
I wonder how many women turn up for a ride, realise the ride leader is male and never go again? Not because they are evil transphobes but because they are looking for female only rides.
There are mixed sex alternatives that TW volunteers can be directed to. This element of the policy is just a sop so they can say how inclusive they are. They don’t actually care about women.

Agreed. It's up to the participant to prove eligibility, surely?

And if Breeze was set up for women, that's what it should be. It's not inclusion, it's exclusion of women who don't want or aren't allowed to associate with men. A little bit of unfairness is not ok and if there is a fun mixed sex group available, there is no excuse for anyone who is not a woman to join or lead Breeze rides.

PoshCoffee · 29/05/2023 14:49

And that’s the thing: there is a similar project running at grassroots level that is mixed sex. There’s no need to make Breeze mixed sex too.

And so where does that leave me?

What do I do?

Would I get "fired" for discrimination if a male turns up to a ride?

SinnerBoy · 29/05/2023 15:56

Perhaps the leader of the ride can tell the women participants to let him get ahead and pretend he's nowt to do with them?

Chersfrozenface · 29/05/2023 16:02

Unless he's one of those who wants to chat as he rides, you know, about girly things - hair, makeup, periods, menopause, cycling clothing and how it fits...

Some women may go along with it. I'd leave the group, and I bet others would too.

Unfortunately, I don't think you would have a leg to stand on if you did try to exclude a male rider, because BC have explicitly adopted a policy of "inclusion" of males claiming to be women over fairness to women, utterly uncaring of the fact that they have rendered the original purpose of the category meaningless.

Inga Thompson has said that she will pay the fine for any female cyclist who choses not to stand on the podium next to men. She has a non-profit foundation that financially supports female cyclists.

That's excellent!

I read that Parkrun say it's not right to ask people their gender - I agree. gender has nothing to do with this, it's all about SEX, and that can be recognised at a glance.

Even India Willoughby - surgery, make-up, long hair, women's clothes, and all is very recognisably male.

JanesLittleGirl · 29/05/2023 22:31

Just nipping back to Breeze. There are a very large number of women and girls of sub-Continental, east Asian and African heritage who would be unable to join a Breeze ride if it included biological men. Are they just collateral damage?

And Inga's reimbursing the stolen prize money that the female riders missed out on too. Kudos.

It's not a win is it? It's like they are so desperate to stand on the podium that they choose to ignore the fact that anyone can stand on a podium but that doesn't make them a winner. The real aggression (which we see playing out here through TRAs and all over social media) is what comes when they try and make people pretend that they really are winners. They want to control thoughts and minds. Really it all boils down to the fact that they can't cope with losing - the very, very worst of all losers. To be a man standing on a woman's podium you really do have to be someone who only cares about yourself and so can never ever be a real winner at anything.

Well yes, because the most marginalised and oppressed group in society (white middle class middles aged males) are more important. That's really it.
