The new British Cycling policy goes public at 11am tomorrow. Anyone dare to speculate on the outcome? Will it be a win for women?

Thing is, how would you know who was the best at it? Grin

It's simple isn't it? Self ID. If you feel like a gold medal winner then you are.

@WarningToTheCurious

Makes sense. The pressure for decision making shouldn't be left to local officials. There would need to be resource for full investigation of cheating through deceleration of wrong sex and a clear pathway for this to be done. The problem is that you need a system to avoid costly appeals.

WarningToTheCurious · 28/05/2023 15:52

@mids2019

I think it’s a good idea to take pressure off the referees and meet directors poolside. I’ve seen appeals over a DQ get pretty heated.

Also, club membership secretaries are signposted to contacting Swim England if they think a member is being disingenuous about their birth sex.

mids2019 · 28/05/2023 16:03

@WarningToTheCurious

Does this put the club secretary on an awkward position though? Would the secretary make a sensitive decision about sex based on appearance?

It makes sense for decisions to be made away from the event.

WarningToTheCurious · 28/05/2023 16:18

@mids2019

Club membership secretary may have their own doubts or it may be doubts raised by other athletes or coaches I guess? Anyway, they don’t take action themself but refer it to Swim England for them to investigate.

I've always assumed they were claiming that the streets were exclusively theirs and that anyone who doesn't agree that TWAW are banned from them?

That was what I understood too…

Ah, yes, could add covert stickering to the Games.

As well as

  • Sneaky slating
  • Advanced sign making (i.e. not ripped off pieces of cardboard with poorly written mantras but beautifully sewn banners). Early contenders - many of the banners at LWS Glasgow. Seriously stunning.
  • Computer based - quickest to link to relevant evidence/research
  • most apt poem

I'm sure there's more.

After mentioning the cardboard signs, I have just seen this on Twitter by the fantastic Mole at the Counter. I think the TRA's may have realised they need to step up their sign making game! 😄

They should start by learning to spell "cardboard".

Emotionalsupportviper · 28/05/2023 18:18

(Or is that Moley's spelling? I'd be surprised.)

Waitwhat23 · 28/05/2023 18:28

The undoctored version appears to have read -

All your umbrellers
Are belong to us

So I'm guessing that Moley's taking the piss rather than a spelling mistake.

Waitwhat23 · 28/05/2023 18:33

No, beg your pardon. This appears to be the original (shite) sign. Moley will be taking the piss out the usual misspelled ones though

It's supposed to be wrong, as many of their actual signs are

ArabeIIaScott · 28/05/2023 18:36

And how is it okay to have a sign that says 'arm trans kids' in public? How is that not incitement?

The chants are always a source of merriment and amusement, they never make any sense whatsoever and when you hear them getting hoarse towards the end, the motherly part of me wants to go and tell them to have a nice hot mug of lemon, honey and ginger when they get home. Or ask their mum to make them one, more likely.

Waitwhat23 · 28/05/2023 18:49

And when you compare them to the ones at women's rights events....

@Waitwhat23

What if a job like that turned up to a cycling event where it was known a trans athlete had been banned? Support is going to be needed for those that police these rules.

The number of positive decisions by sporting bodies is to be lauded but the bodies have to be strong in their implementation.

Thank you - I thought Moley wouldn't make an error like that - sarcasm sounds right!

I had to laugh when I saw that sign, it's so weird I'm wondering if it's a satire by terven infiltrators.

Interesting insight into the TRA mindset that violence is always the answer in their book.

Do they realise that they make themselves look unhinged? Not quite the full Bridges but pretty mad nonetheless.

nilsmousehammer · 28/05/2023 20:50

"Do what I say or I'll hit you" is not really the functional behaviour of a healthy or successful person.

How very phallic.

I'm wondering what 'unhinged' actually looks like to a movement that thinks pouring piss over oneself while wearing a rubber duck mask is a devastating critique.

2Rebecca · 28/05/2023 21:09

You aren't going to have trans athletes being banned though, they just won't be able to enter. There are not many m to f trans athletes in cycling and the ones that compete at high level all competed as males first and had a male puberty. Transwomen who just want to get on with their lives give sport a wide birth and dislike the pot hunting nature of sporting transactivists
