The new British Cycling policy goes public at 11am tomorrow. Anyone dare to speculate on the outcome? Will it be a win for women?

Why not follow buddhist country’s template in dealing with the third gender? Trans athletes should complete in a new category. This resolves the issue of trans rights creeping onto women’s rights and trans athletes being protected from religious/ right wing discrimination.

I quite this idea, the current prize money for the men's category could be split between the male and the trans category, while the prize money for women remains untouched.

But this is the problem. How do you define a woman in such a way that it includes me and a transwoman but doesn’t include my DH who is gender non conforming.

I think gender non-conforming people may actually be included under Stonewall's trans umbrella.

I read an account recently by someone who had "come out" as gender nonconforming...

Except that transwomen, being male with all the advantages that brings, would win all the prizes on the trans category.

So two lots of prizes for males, only one lot for females.

I'm so glad to see this at last.
The powers that be are starting to be sensible again.

Now, if we could just persuade the writers of online forms which ask for "gender" to ask for "sex" instead.....................................................................

I always complain about that on forms. Every time. If you are not collecting accurate data, then any analysis is seriously flawed from the off. So for example recently I completed a medical survey for the NHS - asked for Gender - I have really complained about that. Whereas if I was being asked what fashionable clothing I wanted to wear next season then gender might be more important than sex. But as a manufacturer I ought to want to know sex as well because presumably male-born, female-identifying indivs might be taller or broader so a larger size. That might impact tooling up or costs.

So two lots of prizes for males, only one lot for females.

But the total amount would be equal to the women's pot. So perfectly fair.

My DH is away for a few days. I have been having a peaceful evening eating supper in the garden and reading a book. My neighbour's daughter has brought her new boyfriend home for supper. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening in to the conversation. Pronouns...how can you tell...VIOLENCE....🤷‍♀️Genocide....
My neighbour is a judge. I'm not sure he has properly read and absorbed that bench book or whatever it is. He might as well be wearing the Terf t shirt I'm wearing. Grin

Something that occurred to me. I'm assuming EB claims to suffer from Gender Dysphoria. Apparently a syndrome so mentally tortuous that the poor individuals suffering from it have to have the world twist around them to salve their spirits. However, despite this EB was prepared to remain a man and compete with men until injury made him (as EB was then) uncompetitive then he decided to trans himself otherwise he have been fine as a maley male. At least for a little while longer.

Nope, not buying it.

Professional cyclist Nicole Cooke:

"Pleased @BritishCycling have updated their policy on Transgender & Non-Binary participation.

The decision to protect female sport is the right one and I applaud their stance.
Hopefully @UCI_cycling will back this up.

For my sins, I have compiled list of every lie spouted in Bridges’ statement:

  1. Nobody has been ‘banned’ from racing. Everyone remains fully entitled to take part in sporting categories corresponding to their biological sex.

Thanks to whoever posted the actual text of Zachily's epically deluded rant. I couldn't read it before, because I'm stuck on my phone and it went blurry, when I resized it. I now have an opportunity to analyse some of his wibble.

I agree that there needs to be a nuanced policy discussion and continue to conduct research, but this hasn't happened.

There has been an awful lot of research, but none of it has agreed uncritically that I don't have a huge physical advantage over women and must, therefore, be allowed to race against women.

Research isn't being viewed critically, or any discussion about the relevance of the data to specific sports.

All of the research carried out so far has concluded quite properly that transw retain male advantage, so that women can't compete meaningfully with me. Waaaah!

^Any discussion is inherently political and driven by bad faith actors...

Oops! Did I just admit that? (Editor - you're sacked!)

^...and the whole discussion is framed by the media who are driven through engagement by hate and funding from far-right ultra-capitalists.

I was delighted to have their support and suck up their cash for the whole time that they were on my side. I'm not in any way a cheating, hypocritical shyster, not me, oh no!

I've given my body up to science for the last two years, and this data will be out soon. There is actual, relevant data coming soon and discussions need to be had.

My friend has designed a special study for me and me only. It's designed to show that I don't have any advantages over women. I go down and do tests for a couple of hours, every other month or so.

I really hope that my friend concludes that I absolutely must be allowed to race with women and that the "study" doesn't get laughed out of court by the grown ups.

Boiledbeetle · 26/05/2023 22:53

And you join us at this tense moment in the local tug of war competition.

Team Happy are currently a force to be reckoned with, with love and fired up doing some good work at the back. Whilst team annoyed are hampered by putting meh at the front of the pull and sad is struggling at the back on his own.

Back to the studio.

It would make sense but you are forgetting one thing. The men (real ones) would say no. Just the once. So it wouldn't happen.

Good summary - did Prince Harry's ghostwriter have a hand in it? 😁

I am annoyed when reading it though. Annoyed at the fact that anyone gives such naval gazing narcissism air space.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 26/05/2023 23:20

Zachily happily competed in his university men's team - to victory no less - after he'd started his transition. How was that not literal violence?

I guess we should be glad he didn't impose on the women's team.

Does anyone know what's going at Loughborough regarding research? It's been strangely quiet any time I google. They're a well regarded sports and sports science university with exceptional facilities. Elite sportspeople train there. I'm curious how the capture of universities intersects with scientific research. Or are people too afraid to speak the truth and the studies are intentionally producing massaged data?

SD1978 · 26/05/2023 23:27

Good luck to all of them in the open category- a full and fair category where anyone can compete, on a level ground, free from judgment.........but that's not what they want, is it. Will be interesting to see how Emily does against other male bodied cyclists......and the screeches of not fair........I guess maybe they do know how it feels to be a 'woman' in sport when the playing field is nowhere near level with the new category.......

Pan? No, not that.

I think EB should learn a lesson that I still struggle to apply. Fgs, step away from the keyboard.

It's still unacceptable that women will be expected to share changing rooms and showers with men.

At least when men do venture into the cycling women's changing room they'll have to listen to a load of women talking about how wonderful it is that they are no longer forced to compete against men!

I can't look ahead to the future or make plans because I don't know if I'll be allowed to live that long.

Who is or isn't allowing Emily to live?

Poor Emily is being crushed to death by the weight of their own hyperbole.

Next up, thrcreaming and thrcreaming until Bridges is sick.
