The new British Cycling policy goes public at 11am tomorrow. Anyone dare to speculate on the outcome? Will it be a win for women?

Bridges’s statement in full is just amazing.

Really the ideal person to read it on the radio would have been Rik Mayall, if only he were still with us.

That’s exactly how I heard it in my head.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 26/05/2023 18:13

Listening to the news and revelling in hhe sunlight.

Fair play to Bridges- statements like that are first class foot-shooting!

EsmaCannonball · 26/05/2023 18:15

I imagine Emily's threat to move abroad isn't so much about escaping genocide as about moving to where the mediocre blokes can still win the women's prize money. Maybe Canada could turn itself into a haven for all the trans refugees? Instead of the Statue of Liberty they could have a Colossus of Yaniv, holding aloft a giant Ladyshave. 'Give me your cheats, your perves, your hairy asses .....'

Box of tissues for Emily.

On reflection, they're very upset. Better make it man-size.

😂

You need a ^ at the beginning and end of every paragraph you want to italicise.

Thanks! I've been using the italic "I" icon below the message box, will try this instead in future.

Bridges has accused British Cycling of “furthering a genocide” against trans people.

This is the first genocide in human history where all the victims of the genocide actually survived the genocide to let everyone know about the genocide.

EsmaCannonball · 26/05/2023 18:22

All these angry men talking about the Nazis. Don't they realise that they are the new colonisers?

Course. DARVO, innit.

The same organisation with actively homophobic coaches, who encouraged eating disorders and did nothing about any bullying between its riders. The same organisation where elite riders influence their policy when it doesn't fit their entitled and narrow worldview, with no ability for nuance or any desire to question the view that they've been told since birth. Journalists have been circling like vultures at a corpse for the last few days, gagging at the opportunity for a story or comment. British Cycling is a failed organisation, the racing scene is dying under your watch and all you do is take money from petrochemical companies and engage in culture wars. You don't care about making sport more diverse, you want to make yourself look better and you're even failing at that. Cycling is still one of the whitest, straightest sports out there, and you couldn't care less.

So, he shouldn’t be too unhappy with their decision then if he thinks this of BC.

Fair Play For Women point out that the battle isn't over yet - men who call themselves women are still allowed in women's changing rooms to shower and undress, and can take part in women-only training sessions:

https://twitter.com/fairplaywomen/status/1662041276303147009

^Breaking: British Cycling departs from International Federation rules and limits women's competitive cycling to the FEMALE SEX ONLY.

Males who identify as trans or non-binary must compete in the OPEN category with other males (formerly known as the male category).^

^This is a major breakthrough for competitive cycling at all levels ... but not perfect.

Men who identify as trans or non-binary will still be allowed to join women-only training sessions and women-only recreational rides (Breeze rides).^

British Cycling still recommends that men who identify as trans or non-binary should be allowed into women-only changing rooms to undress and shower.

This is where it all starts to fall apart though.

It has been established that female and TW are not the same thing, and that biology and sex is grounds for separation when it is needed by females.

If it's the case in competition, then there is no less sex based difference in showers and changing rooms. Access to non consenting female people in a state of undress is not a consolation prize for male people. No other male people are permitted to invade female changing and showering spaces.

It becomes indefensible. TWATW and that is fine. They are not female. And should not be in female only facilities. Third spaces can be provided.

Signalbox · 26/05/2023 18:37

What I'm wondering is what is going to happen at Olympic level when British cycling say no males allowed in the female category but the UCI says that males in the female category is fine. Other countries will have policies that allow males into the female category so will their female teams include male cyclists?

dapsnotplimsolls · 26/05/2023 18:50

Today is a good day on Terf Island.

JanesLittleGirl · 26/05/2023 18:50

To describe this decision as 'genocide' is a hate crime.

TheBiologyStupid · 26/05/2023 18:56

Chersfrozenface · 26/05/2023 15:25

Called it.

The numbers started changing once clocks in the US ticked round to daytime.

Indeed you did!

NotTerfNorCis · 26/05/2023 18:58

This really begs the question of what TRAs think a woman is. If 'woman' doesn't mean female, then what does it mean - and why would it still make sense to have men's and women's sports, if the male/female difference is being ignored?

But this is the problem. How do you define a woman in such a way that it includes me and a transwoman but doesn’t include my DH who is gender non conforming.

They never realise that they are arguing for no categories at all if males and females are the same.
If "segregation" by sex is bad, why is segregation by gender identity ok?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/05/2023 19:19

Oh dear, poor wittle Emily is throwing his toys out of his pram.

Bloody well done, British Cycling!

WhiteFire · 26/05/2023 19:19

I can't look ahead to the future or make plans because I don't know if I'll be allowed to live that long.

Who is or isn't allowing Emily to live?

Boiledbeetle · 26/05/2023 19:22

Current scores from pink news

Lots of very angry men probably

New British Cycling trans policy
BellaAmorosa · 26/05/2023 19:23

The changing rooms policy is huge, it undermines the policy on male inclusion in competition because it says in effect that men who claim to be women are in fact women. This is a big win for the TRAs because cycling bodies will allow males in female changing rooms and showers - even if it's illogical, it is still the recommendation of the sports governing body.

TheBiologyStupid · 26/05/2023 19:37

nilsmousehammer · 26/05/2023 16:03

It'll be tactically brigaded. But for a few hours before the batsignal went out, reality was apparent.

Batshit signal, surely...?

GeriKellmansUpdo · 26/05/2023 19:45

I don;t appreciate how Zach Bridges- he's not Emily to me- has tried to bring POC into this by saying British cycling is an all white sport. Yeah, we see through you.

I’m guessing trans men who are unmediated are allowed in the female category but those taking testosterone probably contravene doping limits.

That's what I was wondering. Testosterone will exclude them from women's race because of doping issues, but they won't be strong enough to compete in the open against transwomen and men.
