I know there's other threads on this and I don't know why this 'got' me so much.

I am just so tired of it.

I sit in meetings listening to nice, reasonable men saying things like 'of course we oppose violence against girls and women'. With their pronouns in their email signatures, of course.

I was listening to the radio this morning about the string of errors that led to Couzens being free to do what he did to Sarah Everard.

Then this, with Ed patiently explaining it all to Mary.

Don't they ever listen to themselves? Don't they ever think, hang on, an actual woman is telling me there's a problem here, maybe I should listen?

It makes me feel like crying, sometimes.

*in a meeting, clearly. Too enervated to type properly.

That's how I see him too. Twat.

A million percent.

ArabeIIaScott · 24/05/2023 09:39

Bang on, OP.

Lottapianos · 24/05/2023 09:41

'don't they ever listen to themselves? Don't they ever think, hang on, an actual woman is telling me there's a problem here, maybe I should listen?'

No, clearly not. They're too busy telling everyone their pronouns and patting themselves on the back for being such great feminists. Women aren't really people to be taken seriously as far as they're concerned. It's pathetic

RoseslnTheHospital · 24/05/2023 09:43

Absolutely spot on with that analysis.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 24/05/2023 09:48

Yeah, this >> Women aren't really people to be taken seriously as far as they're concerned.

On paper, DH agrees with me. We have two daughters. If I rant about Ed D/ Keir/ etc, he'll laugh along.

Still pretty sure he voted Labour in the locals.

It's just women's issues, before you get to the real politics. God, it makes me bitterly angry.

OP posts:
PronounssheRa · 24/05/2023 09:51

Yup.

ISaySteadyOn · 24/05/2023 09:56

It's because for men like this women aren't real people. They are costumes for your avatar or NPCs. Not really real like men are. Thus their feelings don't actually matter.

Needmoresleep · 24/05/2023 10:01

My theory….

Middle aged men grew up with a level of playground homophobia. Calling other boys sissy etc. They now acknowledge it was wrong and lack confidence in their own moral compass. So they take the lead from gay men. Fine if the gay man is a normal average bloke who knows and appreciates women. Not fine if the gay man is the Stonewall influenced EDI lead, or awoke LbDem activist.

SunnyEgg · 24/05/2023 10:05

Yep

There’s a few posters on here that think he’s got it right. Just noisy women

StephanieSuperpowers · 24/05/2023 10:47

What I find surprising is how unselfconcious they are about it. It literally never occurs to him that this may not be completely obvious and uncontroversial.

MaterDei · 24/05/2023 11:02

I think in general the vast majority of people are apathetic towards issues that don't directly impact them.

SkatieKatie · 24/05/2023 11:04

I agree with everything you've said OP

IWilloBeACervix · 24/05/2023 11:06

It’s so infuriating.

We are saying the same thing as they are saying, but because in our scenario the man is wearing a dress, they don’t listen.

ThisIsUncool · 24/05/2023 11:09

I know exactly how you feel, OP. So many men think of themselves as 'doing the right thing' without ever considering how it might affect others, especially women.

maranella · 24/05/2023 11:11

Don't they ever listen to themselves? Don't they ever think, hang on, an actual woman is telling me there's a problem here, maybe I should listen?

No, many men don't ever think this. Because they think they know best and they are there to explain it to all the people who are less intelligent and less knowledgeable than they are.

I feel the same. It feels like such a shock when you're an adult woman, you've been to university, you have the vote, you've done a professional job, you think women have achieved some semblance of equality, and you suddenly discover that there are very many men out there who simply don't see women, or more properly don't hear them, who aren't interested in women's views or concerns and who simply think that what men want is much more important.

I think that discovery upends everything you previously thought. It takes me back to Germaine Greer: "Women have very little idea of how much men hate them."

littleburn · 24/05/2023 11:14

Absolutely spot on OP.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 24/05/2023 11:14

They fail to see how Victorian their behaviour is. Complete dismissal of women's voices and our rights, with children being used to satisfy the demands of some of the most homophobic, misogynistic people in the world.

It's the epitome of an outdated patriarchal attitude to women.

StephanieSuperpowers · 24/05/2023 11:34

It's incredible - to realise that they truly believe that if only women or girls are affected negatively, nobody is affected negatively.

Hoppinggreen · 24/05/2023 11:36

Lefty woke bros are some of the worst misogynists

Abhannmor · 24/05/2023 11:40

Isn't Ed Davey an 'Orange book liberal ' ? As far as I can make out that's a Tory with a relaxed attitude to social policy.
Which they seem to have outsourced to Stonewall et al. But still a Tory eg he can't see anything wrong with Austerity which his Coalition enforced.
