Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
bluebeardswife7 · 06/05/2023 22:34

That is the dumbest thing I ever heard.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 06/05/2023 22:34

I'm a 6' woman. I also have short hair. I've been misgendered (sob) and called Sir or Mate a lot, but I have just, you know, got on with it, and never considered chopping my legs off or trying to pretend I was a man...
Is this "cis privilege"...? 🙄

And yet, I still have been catcalled, sexually assaulted and physically assaulted so I wouldn't say I have entirely escaped the grip of patriarchy...

bluebeardswife7 · 06/05/2023 22:35

Not you @ApocalipstickNow . Just the whole thing

Be wary of anyone offering conversion therapy, which is an unethical and ineffective program designed to change someone's sexual orientation or gender identity, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

'Merica has truly lost the plot. I suppose there aren't many opportunities for growth in a mature economy.

Conversion Therapy | NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness

NAMI supports public policies and laws to ban the discredited, discriminatory, and harmful practice of conversion therapy.

Show me a person alive who doesn't look in the mirror and think 'this isn't the body I want'

😂 no worries, I knew what you meant.

Voice0fReason · 06/05/2023 22:40

Surely you can just identify as taller.
It doesn't matter if the reality doesn't match, just deny facts and insist that anyone who doesn't walk around on their knees so you can look down on them is committing genocide.

DipsyLaLaPo · 06/05/2023 22:54

I feel that the advice in the article to go and observe real people in a supermarket to see the diverse make up of society is really sound and should be applied to anyone who considers they may be trans. Way before they transition. Not when they have done the trans bit and then feel they need some perspective.

Boiledbeetle · 06/05/2023 22:55

I honestly never had a problem with my height, what with it being bog standard average until I was measured recently during a hospital appointment. She misheighted me. At least I thought she had. But after another two rounds of being measured and misheighted I discovered that I've shrunk by an inch.

I'm still identifying as 5 foot 7 though. No one can actually tell I'm only 5 foot 6. I totally pass as 5 foot 7.

Sussyknowsthemeaningoflife · 06/05/2023 23:00

I definitely have that age dysphoria.
I'm 27. I have been for the last 25 years.
It's really upsetting for me when I look in the mirror and see an Aul Wan looking back at me 🫣

Ourladycheesusedatum · 06/05/2023 23:11

zanahoria · 06/05/2023 21:09

I had a medical and the nurse measured me. To my horror, I discovered I am half an inch shorter than I was 20 years back.

Did she have the right to take that half inch from me and how do I get it back?

Ha, I raise you, i lost an inch. Ffs. I was tall once upon a time.
How the hell do we shrink.
Will I lose another inch? More?

My bestie mate in the whole world was once 4"10
I swear they are much much smaller now, even though I lost an inch I still tower over her.

She is however still bloody feisty as ever and wonderful. Still I've not measured yet but I reckon she's only 4ft now.

I just bet she has height dysphoria

HereForTheFreeLunch · 06/05/2023 23:20

What can I say... I am a 6ft bloke built like a brick layer, in my mid 30s.

The person staring back in the mirror is a 50+ 5'1" pear shaped woman with greying hair. I have NO idea who she is.

The shrinking thing is it a combination of stooping as you age plus the squishy bits between the bits in your spine (can you tell I'm not a medical bod) compressing and not springing back like it used to!

I don't want to lose any more height, It's already bad enough no longer being the height I've been since primary school!

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 06/05/2023 23:27

I seem to remember reading somewhere (can anyone confirm?) that giving girls puberty blockers tended to leave them even smaller on average than other girls, as it would block their growth spurt, but boys given them could end up even taller than average as it stopped the end of their growth phase, or something along those lines. Which could explain some of these photos, if that's true.

WinterDeWinter · 06/05/2023 23:29

‘Super invalidating’ tells us everything in just 2 words.

SwordToFlamethrower · 06/05/2023 23:31

Soo purr invahli day ding

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 06/05/2023 23:36

I don't want to lose any more height

That's even worse because you were what you aren't anymore. It's not that you want to be what your not, and you're not just wanting to be, you were what you were, but what you were is not what you are. Thoughts and prayers.

Jellycats4life · 06/05/2023 23:42

Is everything you don't like about yourself dysphoria now?

A while ago, I saw a trans identified person talk about “hair dysphoria”, so in answer to your question: yes.

WinterDeWinter · 06/05/2023 23:57

@SwordToFlamethrower lol yes.

I’m agog at how Americans can no longer pronounce a short ‘a’ - it started about 15 years ago when they started elaborately emphasising Hispanic pronunciation in names (‘Ah-na’, ‘Hernarndo’) and now they can’t say invalidating. Culture is amazing.

That happened to me too! I have a back stretcher my amazon trolley...😂

WhiteFire · 07/05/2023 00:04

My Dad, for years, has been shrinking in the wash. I'm 5ft 2 and am now taller than him.

It does show for some that they will never be quite there, they will look in the mirror and still be deeply unhappy, but if you don't deal with the root cause then you always will be. Total affirmation is not the answer.

Whilst the article did have be rolling my eyes a little, it is also sad that this individual (among many) will never be happy and everyone around them is letting them down.

WhiteFire · 07/05/2023 00:06

But I would like to extend my (short arms in) thanks to those who assist in the supermarket.

Not all sheroes wear capes.

WinterDeWinter · 07/05/2023 00:17

i expect this is softening us up for gender affirming shin reduction surgery, literally saving lives people.

ScrollingLeaves · 07/05/2023 00:35

It is just reality dysphoria.

SquidwardBound · 07/05/2023 07:09

@Boiledbeetle I think height self ID is now standard practice in online dating. 😁

Do you think sports direct’s ridiculous display policy some attempt to allow everyone the experience of not being able to reach half the merchandise? Inclusive and forward thinking that sports direct!?

at least they provide sticks so you can play hook a T-shirt. much of the supermarket problem would be solved by making stools available to those who need them.
