Just posting this as on a thread elsewhere I made some disparaging remarks that the debate will be shuffled off to some small committee room.

But they must think that more than a few MPs are wanting to take part as I have just seen it will be in Westminster Hall.

Will be interesting to see which MPs are willing to state views about the reality of biological sex in public!

Event will be broadcast live.

Sorry not up on my parliamentary process, what's a division and why do they all need to evacuate the room for 15 minutes because of it?

It means there is a vote in the House of Commons so to make sure a bill is passed or voted down MPs have to turn up.

I think its called a division because they go or divide into separate queues to get counted.

well apart from a few evangenical people with all emotion and no actual data or facts i think this is going rather well.

chilling19 · 12/06/2023 18:36

Well, so far I feel that the tides has turned. The TWAW lot are simply repeating the same old tired arguments, as if they think they can bully us still. NOT ANY MORE .

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/06/2023 18:36

This is golden bridge time for people like Jess P isn't it? Very pleased to hear her finally speaking out so clearly.
And the difference between Tory MPs (and Rosie D) speaking with clarity, facts, data versus the emoting Labour MPs sounding like poorly informed teenagers on tik tok -

Sorry I was listening and weeding, who was the guy who said he was from construction? He literally stole my angle.

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 18:37

Have I got time to make a coffee?

I'm exhausted but also a bit wound up.

Still a bit amazed that Jess Phillips has come out to bat..

She knows the level of abuse has peaked, so think its safe to come out of hiding?

Timefortea4 · 12/06/2023 18:37

Just started watching the live debate a few minutes ago. I see Russell Doyle is the real victim here 🙄

SunnyEgg · 12/06/2023 18:39

Can this be used to get somewhere?

It’s sounding good but I don’t know the process

Nick Fletcher (Con) I think.

Goodness - Jess Philips again speaking up for biological women - must have had her weatabix this morning or something.

Labour will be putting her on the naughty step.

So is it going to come done to choice between boring horrid hard facts or lovely emotional feelings where reality is ignored?

Honestly, from what I've been told there have been some small but important gains within the Labour Party on this.

She's been given the go ahead and she cut a very clear argument that no one can argue against.

Someone else speaking (referencing near misses for the clarify side) - bless him, good basic point but don't you sometimes think Ffs why didn't I try being an MP? I could construct better arguments....

HermioneKipper · 12/06/2023 18:39

Does Jess Philips see the writing on the wall?

God I hope so. Am so nervous about this debate I can’t bear to watch

I can’t bear RLM.

No surprises there, then.

It is, but grudgingly 🤣

I'm furious that women have had to fight so hard for so long and spend £££££ just to try to have our rights respected

EpicChaos · 12/06/2023 18:40

I'm still quite shocked at discovering Jess Phillips has terfing senses engaged tbh. For some reason, I expected her to be all TWAW, so very shocked and pleasantly surprised.
Yes, i heard the comment about walking round in just a towel when there are men around. I think she speaks for many of us there.
It would be nice if someone could point out to that stupid old goat in the purple, that men don't have to change their clothes or appearance in order to demand entry to womens spaces and that Scots woman needs to wind her stupid neck in too, who does she think she is, some sort of ' Real Feminist ' or something?

bellinisurge · 12/06/2023 18:40

Can't believe I missed that bit. About fucking time, Jess Phillips

She could well be on manoeuvres. But I see this change as a sign they're worried.

I feel like she's maybe been given the green light from somewhere. Paves the way for Starmer on the campaign trail perhaps. Rosie unfairly still seen as 'controversial' but he can point to Jess as a 'voice of reason'.

Sausagenbacon · 12/06/2023 18:43

Jess P is interested in Jess (she really loves talking about how special her experience is). She could have supported GC women at any time the last few years and has only now decided that it's safe to do so. Fuck her.

EpicChaos · 12/06/2023 18:43

I hope someone has managed to clip that comment Jess made.

SunnyEgg · 12/06/2023 18:43

Labour still have loads of TWAW though

Alltheprettyseahorses · 12/06/2023 18:44

There's a massive problem with this debate. Gender reassignment is a protected characteristic in its own right. No one is taking away protections from them. As the protected characteristic that is being discussed is sex, the discussion of and focus on trans is about as relevant as it would be if it was age, religion, marital status or any other PC.
All people have a sex anyway so everyone comes under its remit. Someone needs to tell these MPs to stop derailing it with their silly, trivial obsessions and stick to the subject.
