Debate relating to the definition of “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 will be in Westminster Hall on 12 June 2023 4:30pm

Just posting this as on a thread elsewhere I made some disparaging remarks that the debate will be shuffled off to some small committee room.

But they must think that more than a few MPs are wanting to take part as I have just seen it will be in Westminster Hall.

Will be interesting to see which MPs are willing to state views about the reality of biological sex in public!

Event will be broadcast live.

Rosie! 🥰🥰

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 17:58

Rosie is Unfeasibly Reasonable.

chilling19 · 12/06/2023 17:58

Arabella I like a subtle understatment but Jess Philips has been the floppiest of flipfloppers and the wooliest wooller of all time. Still sinking in that she said clearly that women need single sex spaces.*

I know!*

RD hitting her stride now. It must be rare for her to hear so many others in the room agreeing with her. She has often been a lone voice in these issues.

Boiledbeetle · 12/06/2023 17:58

I want Rosie to be the next leader of the Labour Party. Its the only way for them to come back!

SunnyEgg · 12/06/2023 17:59

It’s great to have Labour onside if not all, it takes some of the sting out of the bogus culture wars moan from others

Boiledbeetle · 12/06/2023 17:59

Nick fletcher

chilling19 · 12/06/2023 17:59

Rosie - death threats or not - she is magnificent

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 17:59

It's wild that Peter Bottomly seems to understand these issues better than Angela Eagle

I know, what a mess.

Doubt Kate Osborne will be any good- I wrote to her and got a TWAW response. The labour party canvasser backed away down the garden path when I raised it with them.

I don't know much about Kate Osborne but many of these MPs will turn on a dime as soon as party politics mean it's favourable to alter course.

Jess Philips' shift is very important.

Remember too that Jess Phillips is Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding she is on Labour's Front bench. So she will actually have power to help shelters if as is likely we get a Labour government in 2024. This could mean a improvement in women's safety.

This is great news. Shows how important keeping pressure up is and starting things like this debate is.

We can expect other Labour types to shift positions or rather openly admit the doubts they had in secret. It isn't great they failed to speak up earlier but a win is a win.

Rosie really is stunning and brave.

So glad that Rosie Duffield spoke about those just putting on clothes is enough to say they are the opposite sex.

I am aghast - Phillips has nailed her colours to the mast! This means that Labour is now seeing the light otherwise she would not have done this. She is all about what is in it for her.

I feel quite emotional about this and what it could mean. Even if it just means that JP herself has found the courage to give us clear support it should encourage more left wing MPs to speak up.
