Austin Killips won the Tour of the Gila women's race www.cyclingnews.com/races/tour-of-the-gila-2023/stage-5-women/results/
Just outrageous. Any tweet by the organisers mentioning Killips has restricted comments (but of course many quote tweets)
It's getting more and more ridiculous:

  • the rider retained their original male first name, Austin.
  • they rode for the Amy D Foundation, set up to encourage and support young women through cycling, inspiring the celebration of healthy challenge and empowering the confident pursuit of lofty dreams.
  • this is the first year the women's prize money is the same as the men's.
You couldn't make it up. When will the most sports-loving country in the world protect and give a shit about women in sport?

It's a disgrace. Women should refuse to race with men. The world has gone mad.

That graph! Perfect example of the hypocrisy of this ideology. If any woman scored like that, there would be immediate suspicion of cheating - which would be investigated. Funny how a woman with blood chemistry that resembles male blood chemistry would be considered a cheat, but a male with blood chemistry that resembles male blood chemistry is not.

Exactly this! And then they turn around and tell us that these men are the most oppressed, when they're bending over backwards to accommodate their demands and desires.

EsmaCannonball · 01/05/2023 13:08

Whenever a sporting body states that men have no advantage over women in sports they need to be asked why they have separate male and female categories if that is the case.

I understand the argument that women should boycott these events but it does feel as if the upshot of transactivism is succeeding in making women's worlds smaller. Don't compete in this and that sporting event. Don't use that shop with the mixed-sex changing rooms. Don't go to that venue with the mixed-sex toilets. Don't go to that women-only event that isn't actually women-only. Don't watch that feminist film in public, watch it on YouTube. Everywhere women are withdrawing from a world where they had self-created a few tiny islands where they would have respite from male behaviour. It's colonisation.

This graph demonstrates perfectly why men need to be completely excluded from women's sports:

that chart is slightly unfair in that Hubbard competed with the old, 'kind', limit of 10nmol/L, which is by no means unusually low for an adult man (e.g. it's far far above the level that might justify treatment), least of all a middle aged man like Hubbard. I think it's right that this cyclist will be competing at 2.5 nmol/L , which, though exceptionally high/borderline unheard of for a woman, is certainly below the male range

MrsOvertonsWindow · 01/05/2023 13:26

Worth remembering that women are not men with low testosterone - despite the attempts of trans activists to persuade everyone that we are.

The benefits for men of going through male puberty are now well evidenced.

If boys are faster than elite female athletes, should males compete in female athletics?

See how the best high school boys stack up against the best female Olympians and World Record holders in Track & Field and Swimming.

This. We see it happening all around us and my world too has shrunk. I am so sickened and sad.

As far as I can tell all Austin did to race in the women's race was grow long hair and have a long dangly earring when racing. I've often found it really practical to have long dangly earrings when cycling, don't you all agree, cycling ladies?

Obviously, else how would they know who the women are? We’re all biologically the same in terms of competitive edges so there clearly needs to be some kind of signifier - earrings, a bit of lippy, pink sparkly attire, that sort of thing.

<sighs>

How is it relevant that the testosterone of a man competing in the women's category is below the male range?

His testosterone is well above the female range. As are his body shape, muscle strength, heart and lung sizes, VO2 max, bone density - virtually every other physiological measure relevant to athletic performance.

The female range is relevant, not the male range.

The female body is relevant, not the male body.

This is women's sports. Sports for female humans, not male humans, however they identify or dope or decorate their bodies.

no offence taken. I don't think we're disagreeing anyway. there may be a T level at which male and female sporting performance roughly converge in some sports (just as e.g. there's a number of bricks used to weigh down men at which male and female swimming performances would converge), but 10 nmol/L certainly, certainly isn't it. I also agree that the hormone treatment doesn't make the male athlete female any more than the bricks would.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 01/05/2023 15:54

Talking about t levels etc is bollocks. It is fucking obvious that men are at an advantage. It is fucking disgusting that women are subjugated in this way. It is oppression. It is all about putting women in their place.

Yup. Sounds about right.

This would get sorted in a nano second. All women should pull out of events where men are allowed to walk (or ride, run, swim, lift etc) all over them, all spectators should stay at home.

Let the shit hit the fan and see what happens next.

Despite women feeling this is out of their hands, ironically it's very much in women's hands.

You clearly haven't sacrificed a million things all through your life in order to be at the peak of your performance in your sport only to, on the day, step aside, be called a bigot and watch as a man wins anyway. DON'T MAKE IT WOMEN'S FAULT.

rockpoolingtogether · 01/05/2023 16:48

Cheat. No morals. Disgusting.
Quote from a former competitor:

"I have decided to end my cycling career," Arensman said. "My sister and family sobbed as they watched a man finish in front of me, having witnessed several physical interactions with him during the race. I feel for young girls learning to compete, who no longer have a fair chance at being the new record-holders and champions in cycling because men want to compete in our division."

I'm 200% with you, but I'm unsure what short of direct action will have an effect. It seems the governing boards, unlike athletics, swimming, rugby etc, just won't take testimony from women.

ScrollingLeaves · 01/05/2023 17:00

Is anyone keeping a record of the actual winners of these races (the non-cheating actual women) and published it on Twitter?
It may be poor compensation but it should be clarified at every point.

Shame on America! How can they allow this? It is embarrassing.

SquidwardBound · 01/05/2023 17:06

Maybe some women’s rights groups could actually award prize money and medals/trophies to the women who really deserve them when they’re displaced by biological males.

Perhaps the male competitors could help. They could refuse to compete in the equivalent men's event if there's a cheating man in the women's event.

I'd be up for that. The silence from male athletes on this is deafening.

Plasmodesmata · 01/05/2023 17:36

Yes - well done to Marcela Prieto for winning this race.

Fizbosshoes · 01/05/2023 17:41

I'm aggrieved at the idea of female athletes having to boycott events or pull out of competitions to make their point, potentially forgoing their own sponsorship and prize money opportunities.

Only 1% sports sponsorship money (iirc) goes to women and doing fewer competitions is only going to make things worse. Added to that most sports people have a pretty short career (more complicated for actual women as it often overlaps the ideal biological window for having children) so pulling out of events when in peak form and have trained specifically for that is going to be very detrimental
