This article clearly shows that Sunak is going to use women's rights to try to destroy labour at the next election we needmake him to walk the walk and not just talk the talk

Good. So fix the Equality Act, Rishi. Do it now.

Yes, let's see what he actually manages to get done, or if it's all sound bites and political convenience.

Ndd135632 · 25/04/2023 23:11

Well he has my vote. He just does. Too important for me.

Ndd135632 · 25/04/2023 23:12

Ah and I got a Labour doc through my door today asking about my feedback on their policies. Which I duly did. Then at the end I said but none of this matters unless you defend womens safe spaces and sports. You won’t get my vote unless you do that.

Or rather Starmer is going to throw the election because he continues to gaslight the electorate that some women have a penis.

The problem party here isn't the Tories scoring into an open goal, it's the fact Labour haven't even bothered to field a team because they don't even realise it's match day.

Ndd I have noted that they talk about 'safe spaces' but not single sex spaces. Really subtle and slippery.

twelly · 25/04/2023 23:59

Maybe the Labour Party will wake up as if all parties say this it will become a non issue and universally adopted - I would like to think that deep down Keir Starmer accepts biology

Boiledbeetle · 26/04/2023 00:14

I know what a woman is and I’ll protect women’s rights, says RISHI SUNAK

"When it comes to women's spaces, women's prisons, changing rooms, sports and health, I believe that biological sex really matters. Like many parents across our country, my thoughts on waking up every morning, and going to bed every night, are on how I can keep my daughters safe and happy.

I want them to grow up in a world where they are free to live their lives the way they wish, where their needs are met, their rights are respected, and where they can go about their daily lives safe and protected.

As a father, women’s rights are personal to me. And as Prime Minister, it is my job to ensure that women are given every protection the state can put in place.

That’s why in February, we introduced a range of measures to better protect victims and ensure perpetrators feel the full force of the law, building on the landmark legislation we have already brought in to keep women safe.

It’s why we are putting millions into making our streets safer, including funding for more street lighting and CCTV.

It's why I am committed to creating a fairer society, where women and girls are given the opportunity to study what they want, take up the careers that they want, and go as far as their talents will take them.

And it’s why today I am pledging my support to Miriam Cates MP and Rosie Duffield MP’s call to protect women’s rights and ensure the dignity of women and girls by preserving single-sex spaces such as women’s refuges and rape crisis centres.

I have enormous compassion and understanding for people questioning their identity – and there is a route available for those who want to transition.

Treating people with respect and ensuring people can live their lives the way they wish, is very much part of who we are as a country.

But we must also recognise the challenges that this can pose.

And when it comes to women’s spaces, women’s prisons, changing rooms, sports, and health, I believe that biological sex really matters. I know what a woman is – and I’ll protect women’s rights and women’s spaces.

That’s why I am supporting the Express’s campaign today. "

Well that's much better than Kier's "waffle waffle men can be women waffle waffle"

TheABC · 26/04/2023 00:36

Well, he is in power so he's got a chance to reform GRA and sort out sex & gender in the Equality Act. Which requires no extra budget and a bit of Parliamentary time. Plus, it's going to really annoy the SNP.

Waiting...

Yes, it's fairly unequivocal.

Be interested to see exactly how he does it though.

SallyLockheart · 26/04/2023 05:50

The most encouraging part is that he references and clearly supports Rosie and Miriam - add Kemi and you have three women with a clear vision how to start reversing the things that are impacting womens rights.

I am counting on them to get some clarity back into law. They need to be pushing behind the scenes.

Whaeanui · 26/04/2023 06:26

This is good news. I know what people are going to say, just words, he hasn’t done anything yet… but saying this unequivocally and backing the campaign by Rosie & Miriam, is really going to force Kier to actually pick a lane. I don’t think he’ll be able to continue being so wishy washy if Rishi is being so direct and so vocal about this.

Believeitornot · 26/04/2023 06:31

Cynical me thinks this is just election fodder.
single sex safe spaces - fine, why have we got to this place after 13 years of the Tories?
Rishi, Miriam and Kemi are all part of the more right wing of the party so I don’t think their views are majority held by the Tories otherwise they wouldn’t have let this happen.

I have to say I don’t like the toxicity of the debate, nor the very base language.

But a message to Rishi - making women safe is more than legislation. Sort out the police and unsafe streets. Sort out domestic violence shelters. Those things take money, time and investment. Otherwise it’s all just cynical electioneering.

Whaeanui · 26/04/2023 06:36

making women safe is more than legislation

If men can be women in law, nothing matters. We have to start with defining all this in legislation clearly and accurately.

Hagosaurus · 26/04/2023 06:48

Whaeanui 💯 this

ResisterRex · 26/04/2023 06:55

Kemi is before PQMs today on equalities.

Meceme · 26/04/2023 07:14

Rushing is my MP. I have met him on a couple of occasions and he has always listened carefully and responded honestly with his opinion. He has been very positive in his support for women.

Meceme · 26/04/2023 07:15

Rishi ......ffs, bloody auto correct.

Agree. The rest is all executional.

Mumteedum · 26/04/2023 07:35

Sunak is part of a government that has been in power for 13 years while this shit show has crept in. He's done nothing for women. The Tories have presided over the debacle of court delays meaning that rape is effectively unpunishable and they have not mention men in women's prisons until the SNP. They are proven liars and are using women as a weapon in their shitty culture war. I don't believe they care for women when they care nothing for our schools or benefits for single parents or healthcare.

But I am happy they are drawing this line in the sand because it gives me some hope that Labour will grow the hell up and realise they're going to lose for the 0.1% if they don't sort this mess out.

1 in a thousand women with a penis Kier... Come on... utterly embarrassing.

oldwomanwhoruns · 26/04/2023 07:35

Say the next thing, please Rishi.
Men cannot become women. Ever.
Now that we have single sex marriage, the GRA needs to go.

ArabeIIaScott · 26/04/2023 07:39

ResisterRex · 26/04/2023 06:55

Weird, the removal of womens safe spaces and men in womens sports has happened under Sunaks party & he has done diddly squat to amend the GRA and under his party it will be only men who have not committed a violent offence who wont be sent to a womens prison... under his leadership, almost 500 men will get a GRC without surgery... just because they say so! (96% success rate on GRC applications)

50% of women seeking refuge from DV are turned away from safe spaces...

Having experienced the horror that is DV, this is why i will never vote Tory, that and the collapse in affordable housing, i'm on a waiting list of 11000, 2 to 3 houses come up each week.

You think i will vote for this lying xxxx?
