This article clearly shows that Sunak is going to use women's rights to try to destroy labour at the next election we needmake him to walk the walk and not just talk the talk

Absolutely. And am completely fed up with this 'stop having an opinion and being concerned about what you want to be concerned about, you need to be concerned with what I decide is important or you are just a terrible person!'

As indeed you are doing.....

I just find the whole idea of Sunak giving a stuff about women or anyone else for that matter laughable, all i can assume is the people who believe him also have bought time shares and have had their pensions scammed too.

Look how he is treating nurses, the majority of whom are women.

As for Starmer, he is an idiot & is playing right into this Con trap.

Tanith · 26/04/2023 09:03

OK, Rishi! Let's see you actually do something to prove you're serious. After all, your party has had 13 years and has created this mess.

Let's see you get the TWAW crowd out of Government. How can you stand up and say you know what a woman is and biological sex really matters when you leave Gillian Keegan in charge of educating our children?

Your party has had the power to stop this all these years. They preferred to use it as an election issue instead.

Tory promises are always worth so much though. Remember "vote to leave Europe, we'll all be better off and the money will go to the NHS". Well it seems people voted to leave Europe and what do we have.... we are all worse off, we have food shortages, and the NHS is in tatters due to lack of inverstment.

Tories will promise anything to get into power and continue to run the country into the ground whilst skimming off the top. Have you not noticed that they are currently in power and have been for over a decade - they only just noticed this is an issue, or they only just noticed they might get votes if they promise the earth?

To be balanced, Kier Starmer will also say anything to get into power; including reneging on many pledges he has previously made; fudging the issue of single sex spaces to appease his actvists; and turning his back on the unions.....for starters.

ArabeIIaScott · 26/04/2023 09:13

We know what he needs to do.

Support Kemi in clarifying the Equality Act using a Statutory Instrument.

Make it 100% clear to everyone that 'woman' means 'woman' and 'sex' means 'biological sex' and 'sex at birth'.

Confirm that when a space or right is for women it's for women, not men identifying as women. And that a 'gender' certificate is certification of 'gender', as it says on the tin, and has no bearing whatsoever on single sex exemptions and women's rights.

That's it.

ArabeIIaScott · 26/04/2023 09:13

Stand with the EHRC.

Uphold women's rights.

Clarify the law.

Floisme · 26/04/2023 09:15

Of course the Tories will use it as an election issue, this is what politicians do and it's not as if they've got many other cards to play. And equally it's up to the opposition to either counter the attack or neutralise it, which they can do at any time.

Yes i wonder how many on here have ever had an inter action with a trans women, let alone know one personally.

Yet far more will know about state of housing, the mess that is the NHS, GP appointments or schooling but none of that seems to matter.

Most of us have encountered, at least, or has interactions with transwomen, or at least with men presenting as women. Live and let live, but these experineces and observation simply re-affirm the commitment to protecting the dignity and integrity of women, and to protecting single sex spaces.

OvaHere · 26/04/2023 09:18

It's a good statement but we have to hold them to account and demand follow up with actions. Talking about it isn't enough unless legislation and policy is tackled. It's currently a big mess.

I don't want this to end up like the abortion issue in the US where the Democrats used the talking point to secure a female base year after year but never prioritised it or did the work needed solidify those rights.

cosmiccosmos · 26/04/2023 09:21

They need to get in with it, clarify what should have never needed clarifying and learn a lesson for future decisions.

I won't vote Tory unless they update the equality act. If they do this and Labour get in they will be in a tricky position.

It's interesting how the conservatives can clearly see this is a key issue yet Labour don't seem to think it is OR more likely don't want it to be as they know they have made/are making a big mistake.

The Tories aren't just using it, they deliberately curated it and have done for a long time.

Rape statistics, near-collapse of the childcare sector, education, Trans rights all tell me this is not the party for women. It's all down to them and they're doing nothing practical to address any of these issues.

How have women's lives improved since 2010? After all that time, all Rishi Sunak can do is bleat "Now I know what a woman is".
Miriam Cates and Rosie Duffield have said this is beyond party politics. He can't even listen to them!

Well he has my vote. He just does. Too important for me.”

Regardless of every other policy?

Floisme · 26/04/2023 09:44

Your team were coasting towards a comfortable win but suddenly the opposing centre forward is through on an open goal. With 15 minutes left to play, this would put them right back in the game.
Do you:
a) Yell at your dopey defence to wake the fuck up before it's to late?
b) Complain that the opposing side are just taking advantage and that they don't deserve it?

Cycleorrun · 26/04/2023 09:53

Yes@Whaeanui A clear definition is vital for any law to work.

I'm not sure why you're arguing these points with me? I am not a Tory voter. I am however fucking angry with Labour, who have no-one to blame for this mess but themselves.

ArabeIIaScott · 25/04/2023 22:50

Good. So fix the Equality Act, Rishi. Do it now.

Yes. Let's not be in a situation where we have another PM who supports the need but does not make moves to get the EA fixed to make sure that protections are in place.

Really? quick ask around in the office and with my DD who works in NHS and no one actually has ever encountered personally a trans person, male or female, let alone been beaten by one in sports comp or been in a ward with one or shared a cell or had a man get out his willy in the local female toilets (thats if you can actually find a loo when your busting) ALL these things are happening under Sunaks watch.

But we do know about all the other things that fuck up our lives and those of our children and friends.

But Sunak gets a free pass.

I'll believe him when he ditches/reforms the GRA and stops issuing GRC's like confetti.

I care passionately about my rights which is why i can't vote Tory, they are removing them, big bit by big bit and pretending they are not.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/04/2023 10:11

I'm not voting for this Labour crowd, they have expended all their trust capital with their gender-faith gaslighting.

I'm not going to nod along and agree that up is down in the hope that they'll throw me a bone. Reality comes first.

ArabeIIaScott · 26/04/2023 10:11

Really? Several trans people in my small town, from teens at school to middle aged, and older people. Curious that you've never met any.

To be fair, the transwoman I met in the toilet didn't 'get his willy out', he just masturbated against the sink through his clothing.

Are you saying that people on here are lying about having met transpeople because none of your or your daughters colleagues have met one? Sorry if that's not what you meant but it reads that way to me. 🤔

Oh so your kind of feminism is the kind where you only care about things that directly affect you or people you know?

If he does this, he will have won my vote (unless I have a POW candidate in my area, in which case we'll see).

I'd quite like there to be fines for companies who lie about whether their toilets are single sex or single gender also - they all know people think 'women's' means single sex, that's common usage. They should have to make it crystal clear - this toilet is for X sex or X gender. If they only have gender based toilets they'll be discriminating against several groups of people with protected characteristics.

If Morrisons had been clearer that the toilet Dolatowski attacked the 10 year old girl in was mixed sex then I doubt the attack would have happened, because her Dad would have been in there with her.

God some men are so gross. I'm sorry you had to see that, it must have been frightening. How awful to think that it could quite easily have been a child in that toilet.

QueenHippolyta · 26/04/2023 10:41

I've met 5.
3 in my Lesbian social group ( 2 gay males, one agp male. They acted like entitled males.
1 who lied on OkCupid and I met for a date.
Enough said.
1old-time timid , the kind everyone imagines. A sad sweet soul who was clearly an ashamed gay male.

dimorphism · 26/04/2023 10:42

Rishi does need to bloody DO something though. Take action. He has Kemi Badenoch clearly ready to do something on this, he should put Miriam Cates in charge of DfE.

DO SOMETHING.

And yep, this country has declined so much since 2010 but some of that was down to Labour too (PFI anyone?) and even though the Tories are bad I think Labour would be worse given they're science and reality deniers. At least with the Tories we are still free to speak the truth we see, that is not nothing. I think Labour would just make it illegal to say everything is going to shit. The NHS would identify as fully staffed.

dimorphism · 26/04/2023 10:45

I have met quite a lot of transpeople. However, what I'm more concerned about is the wholesale changing of law and policy to disadvantage women, strip them of their rights, and drive a bloody great fist through child safeguarding.

Which getting rid of single sex spaces by stealth absolutely does.
