This article clearly shows that Sunak is going to use women's rights to try to destroy labour at the next election we needmake him to walk the walk and not just talk the talk

I have wondered if Trans is a cunning plan to turn people to the right. If it is, it's working.

Quveas · 26/04/2023 07:52

Tory promises are always worth so much though. Remember "vote to leave Europe, we'll all be better off and the money will go to the NHS". Well it seems people voted to leave Europe and what do we have.... we are all worse off, we have food shortages, and the NHS is in tatters due to lack of inverstment.

Tories will promise anything to get into power and continue to run the country into the ground whilst skimming off the top. Have you not noticed that they are currently in power and have been for over a decade - they only just noticed this is an issue, or they only just noticed they might get votes if they promise the earth?

Yes i wonder how many on here have ever had an inter action with a trans women, let alone know one personally.

Yet far more will know about state of housing, the mess that is the NHS, GP appointments or schooling but none of that seems to matter.

Beamur · 26/04/2023 08:04

If you look across to countries that have pursued very progressive politics, they are very frequently replaced by more right wing governments.
The wider, quieter populace are generally quite socially conservative. I think that the UK demonstrates pretty well that as a country we're generally just right of centre. So a centrist Tory, or a more conservative leaning Labour (Tony Blair) are stable choices.
Gender ideology is one of the current wedge issues. It will persuade left leaners to either not vote or hold their nose and vote Tory if Rishi continues with this line (the previous safe protest vote for Green is off the table now, ditto Liberals)

I've had plenty of interactions with trans adults. Absolutely nothing whatsoever like the vile TRAs that have infiltrated public life. And I mean worlds apart. Standing up to this dangerous nonsense was a gift to any functioning opposition.

Whats that got to do with defending our legal rights? They’re males in our spaces and in our sports. That’s all we need to know.

LizzieSiddal · 26/04/2023 08:10

I sincerely hope “I stand with Rosie Duffield” won’t become another meaningless mantra from the tory’s. They have every chance to put protections into Law before the next election, I very much doubt they’ll do it.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 26/04/2023 08:11

We’ve reached the ‘You lot have never even met a trans person because if you had you’d realise they’re all lovely’ stage very early in this thread

Floisme · 26/04/2023 08:12

I imagine Sunak can't believe his luck. He was out for the count and now the opposition have gifted him this. Of course he's going to use it. Starmer can end this any time he chooses.

crunchermuncher · 26/04/2023 08:17

I'm starting to think that Keir doesn't actually want to be in power.

He's got an open goal and he's just tripping over his feet. And he's not an idiot, his career this far proves that. But he appears to have no strategy and doesn't really exploit the media.

He needs malcolm tucker 😆

The Brexit vote wasn’t Tory policy, it was Boris. David Cameron was pro Europe at the time but his campaign failed. SOME Tories are twats as are some Labour Party members and voters but at least on this there is noise, well reasoned and rational noise. I’m inclined to give Rishi the benefit of the doubt here, yes 13 years but who in the general public saw this coming 13 years ago. At least he’s on the right side now.

Are you really trying to suggest that Rishi Sunak, a died in the wool Brexiteer, doesn’t hold responsibility for the mess Brexit has left us in?

WickedSerious · 26/04/2023 08:28

Yes it's just words but at least it's being talked about.

I know what a woman is and I’ll protect women’s rights, says RISHI SUNAK

"When it comes to women's spaces, women's prisons, changing rooms, sports and health, I believe that biological sex really matters. Like many parents across our country, my thoughts on waking up every morning, and going to bed every night, are on how I can keep my daughters safe and happy.

I want them to grow up in a world where they are free to live their lives the way they wish, where their needs are met, their rights are respected, and where they can go about their daily lives safe and protected.

As a father, women’s rights are personal to me. And as Prime Minister, it is my job to ensure that women are given every protection the state can put in place.

That’s why in February, we introduced a range of measures to better protect victims and ensure perpetrators feel the full force of the law, building on the landmark legislation we have already brought in to keep women safe.

It’s why we are putting millions into making our streets safer, including funding for more street lighting and CCTV.

It's why I am committed to creating a fairer society, where women and girls are given the opportunity to study what they want, take up the careers that they want, and go as far as their talents will take them.

And it’s why today I am pledging my support to Miriam Cates MP and Rosie Duffield MP’s call to protect women’s rights and ensure the dignity of women and girls by preserving single-sex spaces such as women’s refuges and rape crisis centres.

I have enormous compassion and understanding for people questioning their identity – and there is a route available for those who want to transition.

Treating people with respect and ensuring people can live their lives the way they wish, is very much part of who we are as a country.

But we must also recognise the challenges that this can pose.

And when it comes to women’s spaces, women’s prisons, changing rooms, sports, and health, I believe that biological sex really matters. I know what a woman is – and I’ll protect women’s rights and women’s spaces.

That’s why I am supporting the Express’s campaign today. "

Well that's much better than Kier's "waffle waffle men can be women waffle waffle"

This is so bloody simple, direct and GOOD. It would have been so easy for Starmer so say exactly this wouldn't it?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 26/04/2023 08:35

It's interesting watching Labour reverse ferret. Their problem is they spouted all the mad trans extremist slogans - TWAW, male rapists in women's prisons, men can grow a cervix etc that the reversing is problematic.
The first comment high rated comment under the Times article about Labour's "plans" to tackle VAWG yesterday was about them not knowing what a woman is - followed by hundreds of others.

Returning to an ethical and factual position will be a bumpy ride.

Flowerly · 26/04/2023 08:37

And there is always the worry that they still believe that woman hating bollocks. They threw us under the bus so fucking easily, without pause really.

TodayInahurry · 26/04/2023 08:38

I won’t support any party who stands for this evil nonsense. I said as much to a Social Democrat, or whatever they call themselves, canvassing for the local elections. We are unlikely to get anyone from Labour.

our council, I assume Conservative, is very efficient, with bins, fly tipping, removing travellers from playing fields, etc so I will vote for them

Oh, yes, I know several transwomen. Some of those 'interactions' are the reason I'm determined to ensure women have single sex spaces.

Why would Starmer say this, though? He doesn't believe it. He has been quite definite that legally men can become women and he has no intention of changing that pathway. If he started to back track on that, wouldn't he be undermining his whole credibility?

Absolutely. And am completely fed up with this 'stop having an opinion and being concerned about what you want to be concerned about, you need to be concerned with what I decide is important or you are just a terrible person!'
