Right, fine I agree he is obviously intelligent, otherwise he wouldn't have got to where he is now.

But it doesnt stop him from being a Grade A arsehole.

He also does a lot of drugs which certainly impacts on his behaviour at times.

BelleHathor · 25/04/2023 18:22

He's spoken about it before. It's about population collapse and he has joked about doing his "bit" to help.

Perhaps the headline of this thread is a bit of a joke/attention grabber. But I do think lots of people don't really understand or know about the origins of "TERF". People perhaps don't really think about the Radical Feminist part of that acronym. Musk is not any kind of feminist, certainly not a radical one.

As previous posters have said, "gender critical" is not right either, as he hasn't said or done anything which indicates he is particularly critical of gender as a social construct.

What he is, is a "sex realist" whilst also being someone who doesn't like compelled speech. He's also insulated from criticism and repercussions by his enormous wealth.

Newnamenewname109870 · 25/04/2023 18:36

He’s a terf or he’s just a horrible person who doesn’t care about women but just hates anyone vulnerable. Like Trump. Wouldn’t exactly be excited about Trump’s trans views.

Exactly. He’s not a feminist at all. Completely different to what you could call an actual TERF. And no one’s going to listen to women if they alliance themselves with people like that.

And his father thinks the exact opposite; and has no qualms in announcing it to all and sundry.

The fact that my GC views align with some loathsome people (from Trump supporters, to Tories and now Elon Musk) makes me sad.

Same.

SpeedSnap · 25/04/2023 18:43

His son is caught up in this ideology.

His ex is dating an AGP.

RoseslnTheHospital · 25/04/2023 18:44

I'm not sure why people are in despair that they object to the same concept, but for different reasons. And as already said. Musk isn't critical of gender and doesn't share any views with feminists, apart from this one point of agreement. That sex is real.

Ditto for Trump. He knows sex is real because he's a misogynist and sexist.

Yes, wanting to protect children until they're old enough to consent to medical treatments is definitely pretty evil. You just know this guy kicks puppies for fun.

Does that really not give you pause for thought? What about people you do agree with on other issues and have historically felt aligned with? If they tend to feel the opposite way to you on this issue does that not give you pause for thought?

No, because sterilising children is never ok.

HTH!

Even if it gave people "pause for thought", when you consider that one side just has dogma and "no debate"...

Echobelly · 25/04/2023 19:05

He's not a TERF, he's just a common or garden transphobe and he's no friend to feminism.

I'm up for reasoned discussion about puberty blockers and the best responses for gender questioning teenagers, but this is just him being a right wing troll.

Cherryblossoms85 · 25/04/2023 19:06

Not particularly new. More fuel on the inferno of this topic really, not sure it helps anyone.

MerlinsLostMarbles · 25/04/2023 19:06

BorgQueen · 25/04/2023 15:44

Hardly surprising - one of his older kids is apparently trans.

Who apparently never speaks to Elon over it.

Similar to Graham Linehan's ex-wife and kids.

RoseslnTheHospital · 25/04/2023 19:12

That's an irrelevant nasty dig @MerlinsLostMarbles.

What makes him " loathsome"?

The world and people are complex and multi-faceted. It is a waste of time feeling sad because you agree with someone on certain issues.

Which You Tuber told you that?

Echobelly · 25/04/2023 19:21

@NotHavingIt - I'm 45, I don't follow YouTubers. Musk has quite openly displayed his disdain for pretty much anyone who isn't a rich, white tech bro and his lack of concern for abuse aimed at the vulnerable.

NotHavingIt · 25/04/2023 19:23

So many young people, and even those older to know better, seem to get all of their information and ready formed opinions from social media, it seems to me. What happened to investigating issues for yourself.

Elon Musk is responsible for the world's firts commercial electric vehicle, and is now doing some quite amaxing things with Space Ex. given his difficult early life and his asperger's he has achieved far more than most people ever will in their life. He may be a hard task master, in that he expects the total commitment from his staff that he himself gives to his projects - and that is often not possible - and he has his faults like anyone.

I recommend watching 'the elon musk show' on BBC I player - for a revealing insight into the man. And yes, you are free to watch it without having to feel sad, or ask for permission.

RoseslnTheHospital · 25/04/2023 19:26

I'm pretty sure there were electric milk floats decades before Musk was running Tesla.

Why would it? People hold views that sound similar but the reasons are rarely the same.

Take Trump for example - he very clearly doesn’t care about welfare of children after the migrant separation fiasco and that’s not his angle at all. He’s also shown time and time again his awful misogynistic views to women. I’d suggest Trump is just transphobic. Most rad fem women on the other hand are worried about the harm (actual physical, long lasting harm) transitioning is causing to children. Rad fem women are concerned about male bodied people being in spaces women need for themselves only.

Does people raising concerns about children being sterilised not give you pause for thought?

The fact that my GC views align with some loathsome people (from Trump supporters, to Tories and now Elon Musk) makes me sad.

Me too.

My GC views don't align with Trump and his ilk at all.

I believe that there's no particular type of Womanny personality, just female bodies. The Womanny character traits we observe are simply the result of growing up female in a patriarchy (and the same for Manny traits). We female-bodied people need support to deal with the consequences of patriachy yes, but it doesn't define us and the long term goal is to not need them. For me, trans women are men who do/feel/embody Womanny stuff. They are not male people who are actually women, they are proof that all that Womanny stuff was never specific to women in the first place.

Unlike me, Trump et al do believe there is a particular type of Womanny personality that belongs in a female body. However, it's not their definition of Womanhood. So in their world view, Women are female bodied, but should also be Womanny. Women who don't have the Womanny personality stuff are still women, but they are lower quality/less desireable/less valuable women. And the men who do/feel/embody it are lower quality men. That's clearly not a GC view. It's actually a Genderist view, just one that doesn't accept Transgender.
