Jolyon Wrote a Book

I'm not sure if he mentions his battles with GC women in it because the review doesn't mention it but I thought some people here would like to read the review. The reviewer doesn't think much of it and that is putting it mildly :)
"Bringing Down Goliath by Jolyon Maugham review — the pompous bloviating of a Twitter KC" (I had to google "bloviating"):

Bringing Down Goliath by Jolyon Maugham review — the pompous bloviating of a Twitter KC

The word “Twitter” appears but once in the index of Jolyon Maugham’s memoir cum social action manifesto Bringing Down Goliath. But the whole book is very much

😂😂😂 Crack on, Jolly

Is it wrong of me to want some enterprising director to film a biopic? It's a shame Barry from Hi-de-Hi isn't alive to bulk up, stick on some specs and take on that lead role.

AutumnCrow · 30/04/2023 11:16

Oh yes, Barry Hi-de-Hi would be perfect, especially in a lady kimono.

dunBle · 30/04/2023 17:43

Does he not realise that Bob Roberts is fictional? And I'm pretty sure a satirical portrayal too, but I've not watched the film in years.

'my natural tribe are the winners' Grin

Flasbacks of Donald Trump explaining why he held contempt for Senator John McCain, despite McCain's having been designated a war hero for surviving 7 years of frequent torture in a Viet Cong prison without revealing any intelligence: "I like people who weren’t captured.”

(In fairness, Trump later denied saying it.)

IwantToRetire · 01/05/2023 00:35

I read the article by accident. ie I wasn't concentrating when I started reading and being bad on names I couldn't work out who this self absorbed egotist was.

Comparing himself to Gandi - seriously talk about have no self awareness.

But loved this finishing paragraph:

The Good Law Project now seems to jump from one voguish cause to the next and Maugham’s trans advocacy, driven by having a “person I love” who is trans, has been particularly uncompromising, alienating some of his former allies. “The Good Law Project could have been a really effective organisation — instead it has become the Jolyon Maugham show,” says one legal colleague.

How much of the world, and particularly women's worlds, have been crunched under foot by montrous male egos?

IwantToRetire · 01/05/2023 00:40

Oh shame - he wasn't expecting someone not to worship at his feet:

I see the Sunday Times shares the enthusiasm of its sister paper for 'Bringing Down Goliath'. What is different is that, this time, I agreed to be interviewed by the Murdoch Press. That was a mistake. I won't make it again.

He just cant help himself. Goliath. How does he fit through any doors with a head that swollen?

Boiledbeetle · 01/05/2023 00:53

So the other day on Amazon Thurs he was at 248 in books now he's at 358.

Make of that what you will.

But the mumsnet book was at its highest position in books somewhere around 180, 160? I don't remember off the top of my head on the day we sold 99 copies. After that as we never sold that many in one day again we went down the main book ranking.

So I'd love to see his sales figures. Obviously he presumably has other sales outlets and an actual publisher and an advertising budget. I do hope he's doing better elsewhere.😶

I have to admit, and this is only because I've just spent the last month going through what he's currently going through on a much smaller scale I'm feeling quite sorry for him. (Although obviously our book didn't get slated)

Can someone shake me back to reality where i remember he's an arse!

More than an arse, a grotesque architype of an overweening male.

The prominent remain-supporting lawyer Jolyon Maugham QC has announced on Twitter that he clubbed a fox to death on Boxing Day morning, while wearing his wife’s satin kimono and nursing a hangover.

“Already this morning I have killed a fox with a baseball bat,” the barrister tweeted just after 8am. “How’s your Boxing Day going?”

Boiledbeetle · 01/05/2023 01:30

Yeah that did it thanks!

Sympathy levels are restored to a minus 47.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 01/05/2023 08:06

I think his need to tell the world about the satin kimono (his wife's satin kimono!) is as significant as the brutal killing of an animal.

His intention was so obvious . It was such an obvious attempt to add colour to his writing, to show us what an exciting, original character he is. It failed miserably. What an arrogant prat he is.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 01/05/2023 10:36

Adding colour, or building his own excited glee?

I suspect he wasn't so much hungover as still drunk.

in vino veritas

I wonder if the poor fox was bludgeoned to death with an empty champagne bottle but he thought that too much to add in?

can I suggest Ricky Gervais for the lead?

Those quotes are hilarious. I was wondering what they reminded me of and it just popped into my head...

Adrian Mole! 😂

He grew up and wrote a law book, didn't he? I wish Sue Townsend was alive to see this and be proud.

Yes... but I can't imagine Adrian bludgeoning a fox and then boasting about it. Or being so generally nasty tbh.

EmotionalSupportHyena · 12/05/2023 08:33

absolutely cracking up at Katie Herzog’s attempts to pronounce ‘Jolyon Maugham’.

SquirrelSoShiny · 12/05/2023 12:33

Could I beg a share token please? I was going to read it but they have expired. I don't want to be denied the joy of it 😁

Resurrecting this thread to bring you the funniest twitter X thread since Maugham slayed Goliath.

It seems he has taken against a certain Dulwich bakery, he doesn't like the owner or something and is rallying his crowds of cronies to join him boycotting the baker.

"Happy to send you some sourdough starter" - that should come with a health warning. I'm pretty sure if it rises too fast it could cause a fatal case of bloviation.

Possibly only cured by a well placed stab to the over inflated gut, Gabriel Oak style.

In my youth in rural mid Wales, some some years ago (ahem!) it was a sharpened tube that was kept handy to treat dangerous bloating as rapidly as possible.

Sorry, off topic.

So the Kimono'd Fox Killer hates Gail's, does he? A good reason for me to continue breakfasting there when in London
