I'm not sure if he mentions his battles with GC women in it because the review doesn't mention it but I thought some people here would like to read the review. The reviewer doesn't think much of it and that is putting it mildly :)
"Bringing Down Goliath by Jolyon Maugham review — the pompous bloviating of a Twitter KC" (I had to google "bloviating"):

Bringing Down Goliath by Jolyon Maugham review — the pompous bloviating of a Twitter KC

The word “Twitter” appears but once in the index of Jolyon Maugham’s memoir cum social action manifesto Bringing Down Goliath. But the whole book is very much

Thanks for posting that, was an enjoyable read (the review, not sure about the book).

SidewaysOtter · 22/04/2023 07:43

Ouch! Grin

HinCogNeetOh · 22/04/2023 07:44

That final para is oufffff:

''Page after page, we are treated to ponderous declarations and clumsy narrations, some of which literally make no sense. It is all downhill from the book’s very first, unforgivable sentence: “The life I have is hard, but I got to choose it, and the road that brought me here I did not.” Is this a song lyric? What does it even mean? Does Penguin no longer employ editors? Give your money to the RSPCA but please do not buy this book. Maugham is a first-time author who should not be encouraged to reoffend ever again.''

😂 I love that review! Didn’t realise this ridiculous man had written a book. How dare he compare his situation to Caroline Flack! Horrid.

fabricstash · 22/04/2023 07:48

😂

unwashedanddazed · 22/04/2023 07:48

Thanks for sharing. That was a marvellous start to the weekend!

Thanks for posting.

I cannot stop laughing.

And that picture of him, why does he turn my stomach. 🤢

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/04/2023 08:08

Glorious. Many thanks for the share token. I wonder if his windmills are mentioned.

Callixte · 22/04/2023 08:09

The life I have is hard, but I got to choose it...

OK, bro. That's more than your victims did.

TEAM FOX!!!!! 🦊 And Team woman ♀️. Jog on, Jolyon.

exwhyzed · 22/04/2023 08:10

The real crime of this book is not that its author is insufferable. It is not that he displays an ugly streak of meanness against anyone who disagrees with him. It is that it is unbearably boring.

😂

Grammarnut · 22/04/2023 08:14

Good review. Interesting that one of the Goliaths Jolyon wanted to bring down was the majority vote for leaving the EU - surely that was democracy in action and brought down its own Goliath?

WinterTrees · 22/04/2023 08:15

What a joyous review! (Jolly may not see it that way 😂)

I wonder if the Guardian will hail it as a work of great genius?

Floisme · 22/04/2023 08:16

I sometimes wonder whether we all pay far too much attention to Jolyon Maugham but that was very enjoyable, thanks for the link.

EarringsandLipstick · 22/04/2023 08:22

I loved that review! It's refreshing to see a reviewer happy to say exactly what they think!

NecessaryScene · 22/04/2023 08:25

Just managed to recover my breath enough from the opening sentence to actually go read the review and now losing it again because of the cover.

'Inspiring and illuminating' - James O'Brien

Slothtoes · 22/04/2023 08:29

Oh that’s a beautiful review

ArabeIIaScott · 22/04/2023 08:29

Round like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning on an ever spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain, or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind

chilling19 · 22/04/2023 08:31

'Bloviating' - great word, and accurate. 😂

😂😂 oh O’Brien recommends it?! That’s so funny

NashvilleQueen · 22/04/2023 08:33

First glance at the photo without my specs on and I thought he was filling his car up with petrol.

Great review. He's a pompous condescending misogynist idiot who has been indulged far too long.

ThisIsUncool · 22/04/2023 08:36

An excellent review. And bloviating is a very useful word that describes many politicians (and a few former colleagues of mine).

ArabeIIaScott · 22/04/2023 08:37

It's a hard knock life, Jolyon.

He would wouldn't he?

The little weirdo.
