I'm not sure if he mentions his battles with GC women in it because the review doesn't mention it but I thought some people here would like to read the review. The reviewer doesn't think much of it and that is putting it mildly :)
"Bringing Down Goliath by Jolyon Maugham review — the pompous bloviating of a Twitter KC" (I had to google "bloviating"):

Bringing Down Goliath by Jolyon Maugham review — the pompous bloviating of a Twitter KC

The word “Twitter” appears but once in the index of Jolyon Maugham’s memoir cum social action manifesto Bringing Down Goliath. But the whole book is very much

Won’t someone other than Jolyon think of the roads?! They don’t ask to get laid down, they don’t get asked where they want to go, do they? They just get told “you’re going here” and they have to lump it. Then they get an endless stream of traffic rolling over them, spilling oil over them, leaving tyre marks.

And woe betide if they ever crumble under the pressure of it all and develop a pothole, watch the ungrateful bastards moan about the damage it does to their precious cars! It’s been millennia of relentless oppression ever since the days of the Roman Empire. Someone needs to stick up for the roads, and I for one am glad they’ve got an occasionally successful barrister on their side. Maybe one day, after a Twitter campaign to rope the gullible into a crowd funder or two, the roads will be set free, free to choose their own life.

About time!

Regrettably, a copy of this came my way today.

There is an entire chapter about the Keira Bell case, and how mystifying the first judgment was. Our bloviator fails to explain what evidence was brought before the judges which led to that decision. He just doesn't understand it, that's all.

In this chapter he also tells us that he was very self-conscious about his body during puberty. Presumably he no longer feels this way; it is very saddening that he doesn't have the imagination to see how this might be relevant to the 'trans children' he says he cares about.

I got part way through the look inside option on Amazon and lost the will to go on.

You lucky woman getting a whole copy.

Ooh how jealous we all are of you!!😁

I'm unfortunately going to have to live with not knowing the contents of his inner thoughts.

It will be hard, but I'll survive! Somehow!

In that link to his house, you can see his? Living room? It has four huge black and white photos of the statues of Alison Lapper, plus one of an armless man.

hmmmm

I lead a charmed life, what can I say?

No windmill yet though😥

When the revolution happens and we have to start burning books as fuel will you hold on to it until the very end in the hope it could be saved for the benefit of humanity? Or will it go first along with the partially defrosted meatballs from the freezer?

Boiledbeetle · 28/04/2023 18:13

He was at No. one in some categories when I looked yesterday, but as we discovered the other week on here it only actually takes less than 100 sales to get to number 2 (we were held off the number one spot by a crime novel...in poetry).

I do from a selling books point of view wish him well, but i won't be adding to his sales figures.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/04/2023 19:35

I've not RTFT but I'm delighted to find the word 'bloviator'.

I think you meant you couldn't bear to keep reading but this did make me chuckle. I had a vision of a mumsnetter lying face down on the pavement with her arm outstretched and the book in her hands, having actually died because the book is just that darn awful. It's really tickled me 😂

Please don't die, there are things to live for, I promise 😅We need to resuscitate you with some Magdalen Berns quickly.

And now there is an interview. "‘I identify with Gandhi’" Of course, you do Jolyon.

I had no idea he is a Kiwi.

😂😂😂😂

Trans-Gandhi? I now feel a little sad for young he/him. The final judgement of the article is rather damning. I like the photos, in one he's unbalanced in the other he's wearing crocs and socks.

I will admit I had the tablet on a pillow on my lap in front of me. And actually ended up leaning down and banging my forehead into the pillow a few times. I eventually stopped with my head in the pillow. I was revived by the tiny raspy tongue licks of the emergency aid cat.

But if there's ever a film about me can you make sure your version is the ending to my magnificent life?

I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me!

I would like to apologise for my momentary leave of my senses.

I was overcome with my all consuming fetish for Crocs.

FannyCann · 29/04/2023 20:41

At least he identifies "with" Gandhi and not "as" Gandhi.
I think there's a crucial difference that he would do well to teach to his young trans friend.
