I'm not sure if he mentions his battles with GC women in it because the review doesn't mention it but I thought some people here would like to read the review. The reviewer doesn't think much of it and that is putting it mildly :)
"Bringing Down Goliath by Jolyon Maugham review — the pompous bloviating of a Twitter KC" (I had to google "bloviating"):

Bringing Down Goliath by Jolyon Maugham review — the pompous bloviating of a Twitter KC

The word “Twitter” appears but once in the index of Jolyon Maugham’s memoir cum social action manifesto Bringing Down Goliath. But the whole book is very much

There do seem to be quite a number of women out there on the gender critical side who he's refused to engage with:

nauticant - so he's exposed as a liar on top of everything else. What a fool that man is.

Brave Sir Jolyon fails to strike again!

I think we need to do some medical research into why people like JM and OJ and all their and the TRA allies have such an incredibly thin skin.

WarningToTheCurious · 22/04/2023 21:22

This is most amusing.

Screenshot for non Twitterers (apparently it was a Jolyon tweet up to the Gingerbread … after that, not so much).

Also, he lives in a windmill.

Ironic really, since he spends so much time tilting at them.

I saw she mentioned trying to fit words to ‘A mouse in a windmill in old Amsterdam’. We took me to this David Bowie number:

Sorry, just catching up with the thread. So.....did the road bring him there, or didn't it? That line's not clear....Schroadinger?

I'm sometimes asked how to handle bad reviews and usually answer along the lines of, 'we've all had them and it's never fun. Sometimes you can learn from them. I find it helps to remember even Moby Dick got some stinkers.'

In future, I'll just say 'never go full Jolyon.'

JK Rowling in trans row with Left-wing lawyer over ‘stinker’ book review

JK Rowling became embroiled in a trans row after mocking a Left-wing activist lawyer who took umbrage at a “stinker” review of his book.

He doesn’t take criticism well.

The review is wonderful and the comments here are great.

I'd guess the obvious reason for the thin skin thing is it being stretched a long way to accommodate their outsize ego. Another example it'd probably be worth including is Matthew Stadlen, who responded to Sonia Sodha sharing the review by calling it "a vile attack piece" and when she responded casting doubt on his sense of humour he got the right hump: https://twitter.com/MatthewStadlen/status/1649714484523462656

The analogies that I've seen of white men colonising womanhood do ring rather true

Clymene · 23/04/2023 07:01

I'm loving all the other stuff about him coming out - the refusal to help a colleague's kid without payment, him wanting his name all over a woman's charity in return for a regular small donation.

He really is a nasty piece of work.

EmotionalSupportHyena · 23/04/2023 08:18

I was looking at the Amazon listing for the book..

It’s a bit weird that The Guardian is calling it a ‘2023 Highlight’ - we’ve still got 2/3rd of the year to go, how can anyone know what the ‘highlights’ will be?

Is "left wing tax lawyer" an oxymoron?

I doubt you pay for their services if you are fully up to date with your tax or are shocked at the injustice of not being asked to pay enough.

nauticant · 23/04/2023 21:15

Well, that's an annoying hash the MN website made of that link. You can click the one under the photo.

Excellent point. J. K. Rowling famously pays all her taxes and doesn't use avoidance schemes, hence probably doesn't need the services of a tax barrister.

I don't know about you, but I would've thought most people, especially well educated, experienced lawyers, are fully up to speed with the fact that if you slag off a newspaper, you're going to be in it the next day looking like a twat.
