This is the case where Mermaids challenged the Charity Commission's decision to give charitable status to the LGBA.

Don't have any more detail at the moment, but thought you'd all be interested. It's been a four month wait already.

Vindictive bastards.

borntobequiet · 07/07/2023 08:02

I’m not gay but my younger brother is. He’s now in his sixties and was very unhappy when young as he had to hide his sexuality - he didn’t properly understand it until he was in his thirties. He lives in another country now, but I am going to set up a monthly donation to the LGBA on his behalf.

Nasty old git.

EwwSprouts · 07/07/2023 08:55

Anyone want to raise funds at an exciting time? Doesn't say for legal coffers.

Why is IW supporting a show that asks questions? Questions are bigoted!

IcakethereforeIam · 07/07/2023 09:22

Narcissist desperate for attention and probably needs the cash. But there must be better options.

Heads up: Willoughby is appearing on Any Questions this evening.

Shame Kathleen Stock is not on the panel but I would imagine IW would not show up.

Being the BBC I fear that IW will spout unchallenged nonsense while her TWAW mantra is validated.

Being the BBC I fear that IW will spout unchallenged nonsense while her TWAW mantra is validated.

They really need Helen Joyce who has facts and figures at her fingertips and is a brilliant speaker instead of IW who has nothing useful to say other than how IW feels. But Helen is only a woman and IW is the extra special kind of 'woman' (i.e. a man) so that's why, even though Helen is 100x more qualified to be on this programme than IW. It's misogyny.

The panel is 3 men and 1 woman, not very representative of the population, is it?

Why are the BBC so allergic to inviting proper legal experts on to discuss the outcome of important litigation
my cat has better insights to offer on this than fucking Tatchell
fuck sake

In the recent Helen Joyce interview she mentions how she is now 'blacklisted' by the BBC since she started to expose gender critical views. She used to be a regular pundit on news programmes, not anymore.

Tatchell will take the chance to spout the usual 'Stonewall Law as opposed to actual law' bollocks.

Nasty old git.

In the Judgment, LGBA get 'told off' by the Judge for the conduct/Tweets of some of their supporters.
As if Kate and Bev have any control of that??

But this is fine and dandy, I suppose??

Ohhhh, I'd love to listen but I'm afraid I'm boiling my own head in cat piss tonight.

RealityFan · 07/07/2023 09:51

When does that BBC fact check service come into operation? Because with Willoughby and Tatchell foisted on us, it's obviously broken or unfit for purpose.

Did they ever read India Willoughby's tweets?

I didn't think they were told off by the judge it was just highlighting advice already given pre appeal by the charity commission in their review.

I didn't think they were told off by the judge it was just highlighting advice already given pre appeal by the charity commission in their review.

It wasn't a telling off. It was stating there were concerns that may or may not be valid but we're felt were possibly not part of conduct becoming of any charity.

As I said previously, this wasn't upheld either way by the judges or the charity commission - it was just a concern.

There is also the issue that if the investigation into Mermaids does find serious failings by the charity that have done harm to young gay and lesbian people, then the LBGA in stating concerns about Mermaids may well be acting fairly as whistleblowers and fully inline with the aims of the charity and it's stated aims to protect the interests of gay and lesbian people.

The 'telling off' therefore wasn't anything of the sort. It was a statement of where concerns currently lie but not a confirmation that these concerns were fair.

Hepwo · 07/07/2023 10:58

Agree.

It's another one of those "the judge said" that ran and ran after Maya's case.

We should start another joke thread on it.

The charity commission said that LGBA supporters couldn't say that people swimming in the sea must keep their swimming cossies on and not take them off for a wee.

Chersfrozenface · 07/07/2023 11:01

The charity commission said that LGBA supporters couldn't say that people must never dunk biscuits in any hot beverage no

I know right? My goldfish's hair definitely needs a wash again.

The Charity Commission incidentally said that LGBA supporters couldn't say that people must never unwrap the wrappers on choccie biscuits before eating.

SidewaysOtter · 07/07/2023 11:29

The Charity Commission said LGBA supporters couldn't say that pineapple and ham on a pizza is acceptable.

SidewaysOtter · 07/07/2023 11:31

The Charity Commission also said that LGBA supporters can't say that the loo roll must go on the holder with the paper hanging down the back rather than over the top.
