This is the case where Mermaids challenged the Charity Commission's decision to give charitable status to the LGBA.

Don't have any more detail at the moment, but thought you'd all be interested. It's been a four month wait already.

I wonder if the CC's conclusions about how appropriate it is for a charity to try and bring this sort of case will feed into the current CC investigation of Mermaids.

Would be ironic if trying to take down another charity contributed to their downfall.

😂

Great post.

Next time it's to be hoped they'll ventilate their heads whilst they're at it.

They do seem to have have an extraordinary capacity for self-sabotage, so you never know your luck ...

I AM NOT A PAEDOPHILE.

Right you are, Peter. THIS DOESN'T LOOK UNHINGED AT ALL

There's a reason why Tatchell was dropped like a brick all those years ago, and it wasn't his charismatic personality.

lifeissweet · 06/07/2023 21:18

Yay! I've just had an exchange with him on Twitter and he's Tatchel-Botted me with his CONDEMNATION.

I feel blessed

PatientZorro · 06/07/2023 21:21

Oh this is a brilliant result, such a relief. Hoo-bloody-ray!!

NotBadConsidering · 06/07/2023 21:33

Peter Tatchell frequently Twitter spams that tweet about his Guardian letter being misrepresented.

But to my knowledge he has never retracted or condemned the video where he is being interviewed by a child talking about his friend who was sexually abused as a 9 year old child where Tatchell says “my mate said it wasn’t abusive, so that’s alright then.”

The Guardian letter and that video both indicate he stands by the notion that if the kid doesn’t see it as abuse, it’s not abuse.

He’s a despicable man.

He has claimed it was edited to make him look bad. Both the video and the letter.

I merely pointed out that he should stop saying sentences that defend paedophiles if he doesn't want to be edited to look like he's defending paedophiles.

I mean, once is unlucky, twice is a little bit sus. Then attending a paedophile's funeral by mistake and writing a paedophiles obituary accidentally...

Well... I'm not making any accusations. The man is extremely unfortunate.

A friend of my parents was very inappropriate with me when I was between 3 and 8 years old. He’d kiss me on the lips when even my parents had never done that, and told me we’d get married when I grew up. I LOVED HIM, absolutely adored him and his admiration, if he’d had the opportunity or tried to do more than kiss me on the lips I’d have let him. It was only years later, when I learnt he’d married a very young Thai girl that I realised he probably had been a paedophile. My parents were so shocked when I told them, although they had always known how infatuated I was with him.

Also Mr Pope, my French teacher in secondary school. Not that he was ever inappropriate in any way, I just mean I loved him so much he could have done anything he wanted to me.

”Not seeing it as abuse” doesn’t mean it isn’t abuse.

Froodwithatowel · 06/07/2023 22:23

Its a lot of gyrating on the part of an adult to try and salve their conscience that what they are doing to a child is not bloody evil.

The child wants it.
The child likes it.
The child enjoys it.
It's a beautiful loving relationship
No power imbalance at all that the adult is exploiting, no siree
Definitely not an adult using a child in a really sickening way for their own ends
And if you weren't a vile, pearl clutching sex phobic bigot...

you wouldn't want to protect a child from a person who can think like that to protect their ego from their actions.

nauticant · 06/07/2023 22:34

This is being covered by The World Tonight on Radio 4 and the analysis of the decision is being provided by Peter fucking Tatchell.

LizzieSiddal · 06/07/2023 22:42

Just heard PT talking absolute shite about this judgement and what the LGBA have done/said. I hope they get a right to reply asap.

wtf did I just hear? This is getting absurd. A discussion about why the charity commission might not want opposing charities tearing lumps out of each other might take the debate forward. Why does Tatchell get to be the voice that the bbc turns to in this instance? I just hope Today will be better in the morning

🌻These creeps are everywhere aren't they! And he was definitely grooming your parents and you. Pick the parents first then choose the child next. Thank God he never got chance to do more.

MavisMcMinty · 06/07/2023 23:17

I have never before considered that was why he might have been friends with my parents in the first place, but that makes sense.

my cat has better insights to offer on this than fucking Tatchell
