A psychologist and psychiatrist speaking out against the transing of children. This is great

This was interesting, particularly the discussion of the nature of identity.

TheSandgroper · 15/04/2023 01:35

I watched that this week. Absolutely fascinating. And horrifying. I looked up that John Money. He’s from New Zealand!

Binfluencer · 15/04/2023 01:40

You know Jordan Peterson's views on women right OP?

You know Jordan Peterson's views on women right OP?

Doesn't mean he's wrong about gender batshit though does it?

DemiColon · 15/04/2023 02:01

Jordan Peterson's views on women aren't particularly remarkable, for goodness sake.

Ummm. You have access to google right? He's a rampant misogynist

He's a rampant misogynist

So is anyone who claims a man can be a woman.

What do you have to say about the content of the interview? Let me guess, you haven’t/won’t watch it?

On every thread about anyone remotely controversial there is always a concerted effort from a group of people to pop onto the thread and get the digs in early about the messenger, because they don’t want to listen to the message. It’s not purity spiralling, it’s a deliberate ploy to make others purity spiral and ignore the impact of the message.

It doesn’t matter if a person is left wing/right wing, misogynist/woman, Christian/atheist, whatever, if they say it is wrong to give experimental hormone treatment to children to help them actualise an internal sense of identity regardless of the lifelong physical consequences, then they are right. The statement is right even if no one says it at all.

You can’t stop it now. The tide has turned. The truth is out. People have woken up. Trying to stop people watching others talking about this medical scandal on a video with guilt association is a last gasp desperate act.

Coyoacan · 15/04/2023 05:24

I didn't like Peterson but he is great in this video which is mainly about Miriam Grossman's views on the transitioning of children.

I'm getting a bit sick of all this manipulation of purity spirals

Why does everyone, well not everyone, have such an issue with him. I think he talks a lot of sense. Can you direct me to the online content where he shows his true colors.

AlisonDonut · 15/04/2023 06:37

I had to stop after the John Money section as it really is very distressing. Those poor boys.

Will be finishing the rest later today.

This is not the 'gotcha' you think it is.

I recommend reading more, and from diverse viewpoints. It used to be considered educational to do so, in the world before the New Puritans.

You seem to be using his ‘rampant misogyny’ as justification for mutilating children, letting violent and sexual offenders have access to women in prisons and destroying women’s sports.

it doesn’t matter anything about who says it. Most people know mutilating children is wrong, the others can get in the Bin.

raspberrywine · 15/04/2023 07:34

Thanks OP for posting this. I will watch it later

Jordan Peterson has done some great interviews. I would like to recommend the one with Helen Joyce if anyone hasn't seen it. Oh and the one with Yeonmi Park.

AlisonDonut · 15/04/2023 07:51

The one with Chloe Cole is also very moving.

What this whole shitshow has got me doing is going back to how we used to do things in University, and getting information from a wide range of people, some of whom I don't agree with. Plenty of people I completely disagree with, which gives me an overview of opinions.

IOnlycreatedaccountforthispost · 15/04/2023 08:20

I like Jordan Peterson, he makes a lot of sense. That doesn’t mean I have to agree with absolutely everything he says. It’s a shame people are so opinionated when the chances are they have only seen snippets of his views (likely not in context) or read articles about him rather than making an informed and educated opinion on him by actually watching/listening to what he says.
I would have a lot more respect if somebody said that they had listen to five or six of his different speeches/talks and didn’t agree with anything he said.
It reminds me of the Johnny Depp opinions when half of the most opinionated people hadn’t even watched the trial!

Fukuraptor · 15/04/2023 08:34

I'm past the point of worrying I'm going to catch couties from listening to conservative thinkers.

I'm capable of listening to people and accepting that I'll agree with them on some things and not on others.

His episode on unplanned childlessness and population collapse was particularly fascinating.

Jordan Peterson is not a 'rampant misogynist' he's not even a misogynist.

Jumping on a thread with a reactive slur which you think in one word summarises and dismisses someone's views is just a tiresome :You Are a Bad Person', TRA type tactic, and we all know that now.

I listen to a lot of JP content, he's opened up my thinking in many ways.

What I've found interesting on his involvement in the Trans issue is that initially he wasn't interested in the Transing kids aspect. He came to prominence because he was focused on the compelled speech issue and his refusal to comply. He's very interested in authoritarian states and how these gain control.

It's only in the past couple of years he's become focused on the actual psychological impact on the kids. I'm glad he is because as a psychologist he should have something to say on identity development.

His discussion with Helen Joyce was brilliant. They both brought something different to it. I thought their reflections on the sanctity of a child, making this movement such a horror, were very moving.

His hypothesis that suppression of opportunity for free play in modern childhood has led to young adults acting out identity role play as a consequence of stunting natural development really interesting.

We're fucking up the kids, let them play, basically.

He is really good on developmental psychology.

I dont agree with everything he says but I don't think you've actually listened to his full views and arguments. You've probably just seen edited click bait moments and taken them out of context.

His lectures are really interesting and he makes a lot of sense.

Fairislefandango · 15/04/2023 08:54

I'm not a fan of Peterson, but that doesn't mean I have to disagree with every single thing he says. Why do people do this on threads? It's not any kind of gotcha, you know.

You know Jordan Peterson's views on women right OP?

I do know his opinions on women, because I listen to his podcasts and whenever he is interviewed by other people. Like many complex ideas, they do require a bit of context and he is, I am afraid, quite right on a lot of things. These may be truths that are hard to acknowledge, but frankly, most modern feminism only values equality in terms of what men value, ignoring the joy and fulfilment motherhood brings and how children should shape your life, not just fit in around fulfilling careers and accomplishments.

I also know what his opinions on women are reported to be by people who would like us to stop listening to him. There is quite a gap.

I agree with you - I find him interesting and thought provoking.

I think that, if you see a post about an interview with a woman and your first thought is not about what she might have to say but about the man interviewing her, then maybe you should stop and have a think about the meaning of 'misogynistic'.
