A psychologist and psychiatrist speaking out against the transing of children. This is great

Most people of average intelligence can cope with reading and listening to a variety of opinions. This is how critical thinking can be learned and developed.
If you narrow down the field of acceptable individuals to those with whom you agree on everything, you end up with the situation we have in some universities currently.
No platforming, hounding of people out of their jobs, screaming mobs of students assaulting and terrorising elite female athletes for example.

I am now listening to Trish Wood interviewing Kelly Jay Keen.
She describes what I was saying much better than I did.

Jordan Peterson is one of the most thoughtful and insightful intellectuals of our time, in my opinion. I've not watched this yet but will be as soon as I have the time.

I would love someone to explain what his rampant misogynistic views are as I've read and listened to a lot of his content and I have not seen evidence to suggest this at all. Quite the opposite.

Fukuraptor · 16/04/2023 08:05

He is thoughtful and tries to understand opposing points of view. In terms of things I may disagree with him about, I suppose I've noticed on the gender stuff how he talks about feminism negatively and blames it for some things I wouldn't.

I haven't yet watched a video where that is the main subject so I probably need to do that but I get the sense from what he's said on the gender videos (and one on unplanned childlessness that I found fascinating and linked above) that it is maybe his problem is the unintended consequences of some strands of feminism - e.g. in a rush to get what men have, some feminists have also devalued some of the traditional roles women have (e.g. as mothers) even though those roles are meaningful parts of women's lives.

I can kind of see where he's coming from on that (as someone who is a SAHM/WAHM myself I can see how society doesn't value that role any more - I think it's important for women to have choices - both ways) but for instance he says all the women he knew who didn't want children in their teens/twenties did want them later in life - sometimes after it was too late. Whereas I do know women who strongly did not want children who haven't regretted it so far - late thirties - late forties which I appreciate is maybe not long enough, but you can only make the choices for your life that seem right at the time and I think people can be fulfilled through things outside of having children through other relationships and fulfilling careers and some people are unhappy parents too because the relationship with their adult children isn't what they imagined.

But yes, despite areas we may disagree upon, I'm not seeing raging misogyny, he seems to care about women, even if he doesn't necessarily understand everything about the female experience and feminism. He seems to try a great deal harder to understand than the men who claim womanhood.

Thanks OP, I have just finished watching this. Dr Grossman has an interesting perspective based on a lifetime of professional experience as well researching the subject. She is clearly passionate about protecting children. I found it moving that she says she felt motivated to speak out, despite cancellation, due to both her mother and father having been holocaust survivors, inspiring in her a conviction in doing the right thing by standing up to tyranny.

Not watched the original video in the OP but just spent a fascinating two hours on @MrsOvertonsWindow 's link from page 1. Thank you very much.
What a great woman, a new shero.

Stephanie Davies - Arai's great isn't she? Transgender Trend seems to work really effectively behind the scenes and she gets so many knowledgeable professionals to write for the the website - always well evidenced and rational pieces:

Transgender Trend - Who Are We? - Transgender Trend

Transgender Trend is a UK organisation advocating for evidence-based care of gender dysphoric children and science-based teaching in schools.

I don't think JP is a rampant misogynist. He's a very clever intelligent and kind thinker. He just has zero feminist analysis- it's his archillies heel. Despite not agreeing with him on everything, I think he has much to say that is worth listening to.

His conversation with Helen Joyce is fabulous.

Yes, I thought that was really interesting, I think she is the first person I have heard talk about how families are being seriously traumatized by the way they are being treated, particularly by experts and authorities.

I on;y had to dip into all that a little, but the situation of having a child who was struggling, and knowing that there was no where I could access help that would be safe, or that institutions like her school were unsafe for her and were working against me, was incredibly horrifying.

We were talking about this yesterday. It was incredibly moving. And of course when eventually this is all over we will have created a society where trust in the medical and psychiatric and social services has been shattered. The people whom the parents should have been able to trust are the ones who have let them down. Not just let them down, but vilified and prosecuted them.

I know several medics working at senior levels (head of department in their hospitals and with influence throughout their health boards and wider) who have thrown themselves into promoting gender ideology with religious zeal. I used to have a friend who was a clinical psychologist who is still totally TWAW and talks about sexed brains. These are all experts earning serious salaries and gold-plated pensions, with peoples' lives and wellbeing in their hands. They weren't sucked in by a powerful cult, they ran towards it in order to prove how progressive and open-minded they were.

Labour, the Liberals and the Greens have done massive damage to the social contract. Gender Ideology has shown us how utterly stupid and unprincipled, and how willing to lie, our politicians are. Of course politicians have always lied — but never at this level of calling day night or black white.
