She is the swimmer who has spoken out about Lia Thomas (both about him exposing himself in the changing room and being forced to compete against him). Now she's been attacked at San Francisco state university

The mob violence is escalating

Female TRAs I've come across sometimes to me seem to have been the girls who weren't particularly popular, rather emo, or even bullied. They channel their anger into this.

I hope Riley is ok. I dread to think what else they'd have done to her if she had no protection.

I recall seeing an interview with a lesbian who was assaulted by TRA women at a protest after WiSpa. She said something similar - they seemed like ' not the most popular girls'.

Revenge of the nerds . And in the Riley Gaines assault its even more delicious : they get to abuse a woman who is indeed popular and successful.

Thanks for the study on schadenfreude @CheekyRascals . Something I need to watch out for in myself!

Some of those women have probably watched the Handmaid’s Tale and were horrified at the stoning scene - there was a word for it, something beginning with e? - where they all turn on a woman. They probably hate Aunt Lydia. And yet here they are. Is it because violence is ok against the wrong side? It seems to be a common view on the TRA side.

If they were getting worse, after attacking three 9 year old children they would have moved on to attacking say 6 year old children and more than three.

Instead they are going after one young woman at the peak of fitness.

What a load of bollocks.

Riley is young, physically fit, she has many people supporting her, she has done very well in her sport, she is brave and very pretty.

Dear Lord.

Not - 'Can I just say, as someone who has lived with someone who gave me no right to bodily privacy when undressing or washing, that it’s the being forced to be naked/ undressing in front of a male who you don’t want to see you naked, that is so awful. '

Me too Not. I was 10 and it was my stepfather. That was just the beginning.

The imperative for privacy has never left me.

So those women screaming at her are screaming for the right of men to force women to be naked in front of them.

That woman screaming ‘bitch’ has no understanding of how deeply she’s internalized make hatred of women.
That testimony from Riley was really moving. If a trans person gave such an account that mob would watch it with tear filled eyes. When it’s a women talking of the trauma of been allowed no boundaries or rights, they have no empathy.

Honestly, I see that mob, screaming abuse as absolutely no different from the mob in that famous photo of the black young women, walking through a screaming white mob as they attend a newly desegregated school. I have heard people defend that mob as ‘oh well everyone thought like that then’ but that’s no excuse. There was an active debate and there’s no excuse for having not heard and understood both sides. You can’t be in a screaming hate filled mob if you have heard both sides.

It's about time the trans community who get it, who know they aren't the opposite sex start infiltrating these more aggressive groups

I'd love to see a TRA event where a load of transwomen get up and give their moving testimonies as the crowd watching sympathise with them.

Then at the very end they tell the audience that they were all reading out the testimonies of actual women!

That would be an interesting exercise.

I think we are now past peak, killing three 60 year olds and three 9 year olds after soup on a 5 foot 1 one and breaking bones in the face of a 72 year old.

This is the beginning of the end for them.

briancormorant · 07/04/2023 14:35

The vocal women in these organisations validate the men by merely being there.

The men see true women and think it must be right.

namitynamechange · 07/04/2023 14:41

While generally men are more likely to commit violent crime than women I think in an angry mob those differences count for less - people are acting as a group rather than individuals. In fact maybe "mob-gender" is the one actual gender that makes sense.

Fluffymule · 07/04/2023 14:47

' Whereas the city councils and universities seem to be encouraging these violent sexist thugs. The attitude of the police is most odd. Perhaps they see it as feminists getting their comeuppance? '

I do think there is an element of this.

I see it on social media constantly, men who comment that 'feminists caused this', 'this was the society you wanted', 'this is what you get for hating men'. Really gleeful stuff dripping with misogyny and ignorance of the feminist movement over time.

And we all know that misogyny is pretty much a feature rather than a bug in the Police at this point.

Sunnava · 07/04/2023 15:03

Absolutely horrifying, disgusting, Cultural Revolution energy. Sadly, that is not hyperbole. :(

I never thought I would be living through a period of such extreme, enacted misogyn but here I am and here we are.

Sunnava · 07/04/2023 15:04

^misogyny*

agent765 · 07/04/2023 15:04

This is why a lot of women I know won't speak out. This mob behaviour is terrifying. I don't know whether to feel disgusted or disheartened at the women in the mob. I just hope that one day they grow up and see the light soon.

Riley is a brave young woman.

Tabasco007 · 07/04/2023 15:08

I saw this earlier, what has happened to people to think that this sort of response for a women standing up for single sex sport is in anyway justified. The women there screaming and shouting, are happily, well angrily, giving away there own rights. I just don't know what's happening to society and what this whole movement wants the end game to be; an unrecognizable society where women don't leave their homes, and none can speak the truth anymore.... deeply deeply concerning.

Musomama1 · 07/04/2023 15:21

This is why we must have biological sex clarified in the Equality Act.

Women will no longer be a risk of violence for speaking out when speaking out no longer becomes necessary.

This is the problem! Some people think being a feminist means you hate men. Some feminists probably do. The rest of us are just fighting for bloody parity! Not the complete annihilation of men being classed as a separate sex!

The punishment is not fitting the crime here!

CheekyRascals · 07/04/2023 16:13

Glinner, Harry Miller and Co aren't the men he is speaking about, Keir Starmer types are unreliable drips.

Riley Gaines is a lioness. I hope she is being well supported in real life.

I'm looking at these hostile women and thinking of a couple of middle aged mothers of "gentle, vulnerable" adolescent transwomen who used to be my friends. Having gone "in for a penny, in for a pound" and bought into the full rainbow, they have become those MRA foot soldiers. I no longer know them. I wonder if I ever really did.

Guarentinaflo · 07/04/2023 18:00

I hope she sues the students who held her captive and the university for failing to keep her safe.

Brefugee · 07/04/2023 18:02

how did it all end? last i read they were demanding money to let her out?
Sounds like the FBI should have been called in

nepeta · 07/04/2023 18:07

This is the active form that #nodebate takes. I don't find it a random coincidence that in so many trans protests one of the shouts is "Go home".

Deep behind all this is the desire to put women back into their homes and the desire to shut women up.

The university should be ashamed for letting this to happen to Riley. I hope she was not seriously hurt in the beating.

Brefugee · 07/04/2023 18:09

The university should be fined for putting her in danger.
Agree that this is the result of #NoDebate and all academic institutions, in particular, should be having a long hard look at themselves.

I am baffled by "trans rights are human rights" because "women's rights are human rights" so... we all have human rights. What next?
