Considering she left her job over a trans rapist I think it does affect her.

I think that was doing her damage, but I think the visit by the head of police Scotland immediately prior to his resignation, and only a few days before her own might have had something to do with it too. Especially seeing what has happened subsequently.

"It stinks to high heaven" !

Ex-top cop says wait to search Sturgeon's home 'stinks to high heaven'

At first glance I read this as being a claim that Nic’s house stinks. 🤣

EmotionalSupportHyena · 21/05/2023 09:37

At this rate Nic might actually find herself locked up with wee Katie Dolatowski.

EmotionalSupportHyena · 21/05/2023 09:49

😆

Doesn't a vehicle sitting on a driveway have to be taxed unless it is SORN?
And to be taxed it must be insured surely?
If the vehicle wasn't insured I wonder if it was taxed?

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 21/05/2023 11:02

I don't think having no insurance would stop you from taxing the vehicle. So it could be taxed but still uninsured. Bit of an odd one though, when it is worth so much, to have it sat there with no insurance against fire and theft.

FannyCann · 21/05/2023 11:28

Google/compare the market says otherwise @SirSamVimesCityWatch

You must have an insurance policy to tax a vehicle. So unless the van was SORN (so much for using it as a campaign bus) it should have been insured and taxed.
I hope the police are checking this. They usually love to throw the book at people with untaxed/uninsured vehicles.

BREAKING NEWS! Peter Murrell in custody for questioning re. funding of SNP
anyolddinosaur · 21/05/2023 11:35

Genuine question - it was off road and didnt move in years so could have had a ‘Statutory Off Road Notification’ (SORN). That might be why it was uninsured - unless it can be covered under a property insurance? Wouldn't most people pay the tax so they could insure it.

JanesLittleGirl · 21/05/2023 11:56

I find it hard to believe that a competent and professional organisation like the SNP would fail to insure a £100,000 asset against all insurable risks even if the asset wasn't being used. It wouldn't have to be motor insurance, it could be a named item under the SNP's general policy.

anyolddinosaur · 21/05/2023 12:04

You can tax and insure a vehicle really quickly if you want to bring it back into use. Sounds to me like the press have discovered it didnt have motor insurance but have just made an assumption that it was completely uninsured.

Shelefttheweb · 21/05/2023 12:09

😂😂😂😂

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 21/05/2023 12:11

Ah fair enough. I suppose I am thinking of the old days when you could just buy a tax disc at the post office!

FannyCann · 21/05/2023 12:16

But if it didn't have motor insurance it couldn't have been taxed and should have been SORN.
I do hope someone is checking.

Can I please nominate competent and professional organisation (bold AND italics) as a new MN euphemism?

Stonewall is a competent and professional organisation

Mermaids is a competent and professional organisation

The Green Party is a competent and professional organisation

The Department of Education competent and professional organisation

I think we’d get a lot of mileage out of it!

You can find out if you have the reg number;

https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax

Check if a vehicle is taxed

Check and report if a vehicle has up-to-date vehicle tax or is 'off road' (SORN)

https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax

JanesLittleGirl · 21/05/2023 12:30

Of course the competent and professional organisation would need to know that it owned the asset to be able to insure it. I understand that the last two SNP treasurers have denied any knowledge of the purchase.

I feel sorry for Peter Surgeon's elderly mother, who will now have six points and a fine of at least £200, for having an uninsured vehicle.

why would she get points and a fine? She isn’t the registered keeper.

Doesn't it depend whether she's the registered keeper?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/05/2023 13:01

I don't have a car or a driving licence, so maybe this is rubbish, but if you keep a vehicle off road, aren't you exempt from insuring it? Is a front drive not off road?

FannyCann · 21/05/2023 13:15

But then you have to give official SORN notification to the DVLA.
Which, being a competent and professional organisation, they no doubt did.
Otherwise it needed to be taxed and insured.

And of course if it was SORN, it rather suggests it wasn't "battle ready" for it's intended purpose as a campaign bus. Though of course as a pp has said it would not take long to do the paperwork and get it insured and taxed. So long as someone knew about its existence. 🤔

And such a valuable vehicle would certainly be at risk of theft so it should have been insured one way or another.
