I assume the people planning to sue are observant sikhs, it would be religious discrimination.

ArabellaScott · 05/05/2023 22:49

There seem to be exemptions for religious reasons.

JFC, it's like the Taliban, only in reverse.

It’s mental.

everything is mental

the only solution to Scottish politics is to find Shawny Boy to do the satire once a week and hope for an asteroid to land on homyrood and start again

Ooh! AMS have a subsidiary, which specialises in tax avoidance schemes, one of which is to enable people to avoid tax on their children's school fees:

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/may/06/tax-firm-run-by-snps-auditors-accused-of-potentially-running-avoidance-scheme

A boutique tax advisory firm run by the Scottish National party’s new auditors has been accused of potentially running a tax avoidance scheme to help parents who are paying private school fees.

Signature Tax, an offshoot of AMS Accountants Group, offers clients “tailored tax solutions” on its website, including advice on paying fees in a “tax efficient manner."

Signature Tax’s website says its planning “allows grandparents to assist their children in a tax efficient manner” by helping them “fully utilise” the tax-free £12,570 personal allowance and £1,000 dividend allowance for each grandchild.

But the tax policy expert Dan Neidle said the complex arrangements could enable business owners who can grant shares to family members the ability to avoid almost £60,000 of tax on £100,000 of annual school fees.

Apparently the police are going after Scottish enterprise and have arrested their (SE) accountants 😱

Oh dear! Still, at least Mr. Sturgeon will have some friends in Big Bar-L.

WTF?!

Doesn’t seem to be well substantiated at this point though.

WTF?!

Peter Murrel (husband of Nicola Sturgeon) will be going to prison (Big Bar-L = Barlinnie) with some of his colleagues.

SquidwardBound · 08/05/2023 08:22

You couldn’t really make it up. The struggle to find anyone to do it ends up in finding a small firm offering dodgy tax avoidance management products.

Everyone feels much more confident about the SNP accounts now. 🤦🏻‍♀️

And don't forget - small firm that has submitted its confirmation statement to Companies House late for three years

Oh dear! I wonder if they were selling things, too?

ArabellaScott · 14/05/2023 11:22

'“Companies and political parties cannot just spend money any way they want, there are rules about how people are paid and there are obviously huge tax implications as well.
“Everything needs to be properly accounted for legally and that is what the police are looking at here.
“It is an ongoing inquiry, just because there hasn’t been any more arrests doesn’t mean nothing is happening, quite the opposite is true.
“A team of specialist officers are working on this full time, going through all of the accounts and matching entries up with what has been paid for via SNP bank accounts and then looking at where individual items that have been purchased have ultimately ended up.
“Officers are now going to be going back to several people they spoke to as witnesses and re-interviewing them armed with the evidence that has been collected.”'

is Nicola Sturgeon right now burying her paperclip, post it note and neon highlighters stash in Ma Murrell’s backyard?

ThatsGenderwang · 14/05/2023 13:27

Hang on - is this a typo or has the Express just pushed the arrival of the luxury motorhome back a year, from Jan 2021 to 'early 2020'?

And we can also reveal the £110,000 motorhome seized by police from the driveway of former First Minister’s Nicola Sturgeon’s mother-in-law was purchased from the Erwin Hymer Centre Travelworld near Birmingham before being driven 300 miles to Dunfermline by two men in early 2020.

Because that would mean the 'covid battle bus' arrived before covid did.

NatashaDancing · 14/05/2023 13:33

Great news !

I completely disagree with this bit: ”Mr Adamson acknowledged that she did a "really good job" keeping people safe during the Covid pandemic”.

Keeping children safe is about healthy development, education, mental health, treating developmental issues within the appropriate window of development, as well as keeping them away from abuse and neglect. NS kept children out of school longer than England, including preventing transitional activities between education stages. Far fewer vulnerable children were supported in school than elsewhere, she was responsible for facemasks in school even though the report at the time said they may increase risk of infection. She kept soft play places shut while pubs were open. She caused untold stress over exam results. Mr Adamson failed to speak up for children at the time too.
