"Sums include £246,000 from the estate of South African-born Estelle Brownrigg, which was reported to the Electoral Commission (EC) in January this year. She died in a care home five years ago."
The story about bequests is very bemusing. No doubt there are those who wish to show their support after death but there are some very substantial bequests, are their families happy about this? There is a real sense of murkiness about some.
My own mother who died last year left various (modest) sums to animal charities only and my sisters and I rolled our eyes. I managed to persuade all that donations at her funeral should be split between her animal charity of choice and the Royal Osteoporosis Society as osteoporosis had caused her so much pain and difficulty in her last years. I think it's fair to say a substantial donation to a political party would have raised eyebrows.
