As a non Scot I don't know why Salmond is looked on with such distain. Can you provide some context for us sassenachs please?
From far away it looks like NS and the SNP tried to proper stitch him up. People closer might have a dfifferent story. I'd like to undertsand that point of view to get the full picture.

Salmond sold off an SSSI to Donald Trump for a golf course, over-riding the refusal of the local council's planning permission. Yes, I will hold that against him.

I find him arrogant and obnoxious.

He was however, undoubtedly the victim of a malicious attempt to fit him up.

party alba, but not to know how it’s pronounced in Gaelic. Which tells you a lot really.

I met Salmond once. We both smiled, shook hands and exchanged polite snippets. Not one ounce of genuine greeting from either of us. I was being polite. He was bestowing his beneficence upon me whilst checking over my shoulder for more worthy recipients. Urgh.

up thread it was said an auditor would be appointed for them if they miss the deadline. I presume this is for the electoral commission part? I am guessing the Westminster group just lose their short money. (If they appoint an auditor for you, you still have to pay for it yourself).

The problem for the auditors is it will be their fault that the deadlines are missed. I wonder if it might become easier to appoint auditors after the deadline as it couldn’t be spun that way then?
