Just in case anyone hasn't yet seen the book of poetry, edited by our own Boiled Beetle -

Thought my ears were burning! The first 4 verses of a 19 verse (it was Christmas alcohol may have been involved in the writing of some verses!)

And in a more sinister twist (link to herald article in the tweet)twitter.com/indyscotnews/status/1650041385611829248?s=20

This is just getting more bizarre by the day!

Which leaves plenty of scope for pointless speculation about frivolous tat.

Asparagus steamer?
Meat shredding claws?
Banana slicer?
Electric wine opener?
Coffee pod machine?
Yogurt maker?
Electric carving knife?
Air fryer? (Does that count as frivolous tat - discuss)

That sounds like a generation game style conveyor belt. (one for the teenagers there)

BREAKING NEWS! Peter Murrell in custody for questioning re. funding of SNP
Chersfrozenface · 24/04/2023 13:09

So, the SNP's Westminster group could miss out on £1.2m in public funds if it fails to file its accounts by the 31 May deadline.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-65373659

Apparently the party is having problems finding new auditors. Stephen Flynn, Westminster SNP leader, is quoted as saying "I thought it would be a relatively straight forward [sic] process to secure new auditors but that's proven not to be the case" and that this was partly due to the fact that the financial year was nearing its end as well as the overall challenges in the party's finances.

Well, that's one way of putting it. Accountancy firms not willing to touch this stinker with a very, very long pole and there not being a fee big enough in the world?

Wonder what odds I'd get from the betting shop round the corner on the accounts being filed by month end.

Oh dear. Whoever would have thunk it.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 24/04/2023 13:31

Well this is all putting my annoyance at having to get my shit together and submit the accounts for my WI for their annual inspection by an independent financial examiner into perspective

FannyCann · 24/04/2023 14:07

Presumably they have to pay for the auditor out of their depleted bank account? And if it looks as if there might not be enough ready cash to pay the fat fee 🤔

Oh, Stephen 'rabid gammon' Flynn? Might this see him out of a paypacket?

😶

I can’t imagine auditor for a political party currently under investigation over missing funds is a hugely appealing last minute prospect.

It sounds like an enormous amount of work - with a potentially uncooperative client (because police investigation) - in a very short period of time when you’re busy anyway.

And you’d definitely want them to pay you up front. 🤣

given their track record of funds going walkabout, you certainly would.

Chersfrozenface · 24/04/2023 16:47

The trouble is, to get an appropriate fee beforehand, you'd have to calculate it. Meaning you'd have to guess how much work it would involve and charge for that, plus n% contingency for extra complications and therefore hours. And decide whether you even have the staff hours available and/or you could subcontract extra staff.

It'd be a no from me.

Shelefttheweb · 24/04/2023 16:53

And you’d definitely want them to pay you up front.

Calculating the fee upfront is difficult though you could request a down payment, but is there sufficient funds to pay for it anyway? You certainly wouldn’t be offering a discount, possibly doubling (or more) your fees due to inherent risks and late notice.

SquidwardBound · 24/04/2023 17:20

Indeed. It’s not a mystery even from over here why rival auditing firms haven’t snapped the SNP’s hand off.

The real question is why the SNP didn’t anticipate this being a problem.

Hoardasurass · 25/04/2023 13:41

Wow according to the BBC Scotland news Colin beetie claims that he didn't know about the battle bus/campervan.😲

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 25/04/2023 13:56

What did he think the £100k had been spent on? Was he cutting corners by not demanding receipts for petty cash reimbursement? Tut tut

Not answering any questions might be the best course of action for most SNP leadership right now. Remember that voluntary interview isn't really as voluntary as it likes to pretend.
I've been sort of hoping Felix might show up in this thread to tell why.
