Boycott New Zealand

Let's hit the state sanctioned violence against women where it hurts - in their pockets.

Off the top of my head:

Wine - Oyster Bay, Villa Maria, the Ned, Wairau Cove, Brancott Eatate, Cloudy Bay
Lamb - check the label to make sure it's British
Manuka honey and ordinary honey - M&S stock quite a few.
Wool
Allbirds shoes
Canterbury clothing.

Have I missed anything?

Also write to the PM: [email protected]
Minister for trade: [email protected]

And tell them you're boycotting and why. There's no point if they don't know you're doing it!

Wokeism is a direct U.S import ( U.S cultural colonialism in action for you) based on three theories: 'Intersectionalism' and its hierarchy of oppressions and privileges; Queer theory - especially in its guise of gender identity theory; and Critical Race Theory.

Why the UK press is importing US cultural colonialism in 2023 is an eye opener in itself.

Thank you for telling me where the term "woke" comes from. It'll be interesting to read how gender identity was a problem in colonial times and the Critical Race Theory.

@IcakethereforeIam At a risk of another derail, I'm curious why there seems to be only one Maori language. Even welsh has at least three distinct dialects. I'd have thought, with the mountains and two big islands, the Maori language(s) should be more diverse. Please ignore this post if you wish.

There are many different dialects within Māori.

nilsmousehammer · 27/03/2023 11:16

What left wing press could KJK choose instead?

Which of them did she turn down?

I think there's a winery in Aberdeenshire. That could be a complete fever dream, of course...

And whoever said that Anchor is now made in Britain, thanks.

So much hatred and bigotry all in one thread. None of this has anything to do with New Zealand, and everything to do with the posters spewing bile.

Please don't presume to know what the women - or men - of Aotearoa think or believe. We are not one homogeneous lump.

There is so much hatred in the world already. Let's take a step back and let people make up their own minds about what they think, feel and believe.

Forcing strong opinions on others will never end well. Let's try to be a little more respectful of others, and engage in more mature conversation.

What is hateful and bigoted about wanting to let women speak? What is hateful and bigoted about wanting to amplify Maori women's voices?

I would like you to tell me where a man punching an older woman fits in to your peaceable world, please? Thank you.

littlbrowndog · 27/03/2023 11:20

Let’s be mature and not be violent towards women

thats the starting point

KJK on Fox News, bigging up Elon Musk makes me want to vom.

Violence at rallies is clearly disgraceful but backing anyone who courts right-wing press is not OK to me, either.

There's an emerging air of Katie Hopkins about Kelly and it does not sit right.

Oh no, is she talking to people and about people you don't like, and this makes you think of someone else you don't like?

This must be the political equivalent of green washing, is it? I suppose it works for shell but you realize that we are all familiar with the tactic, right?

There are Maori and kiwi women on this thread and on MN, Maori women invited her. Take your own advice.

That is the exact opposite of what has happend in Auckland, though isn't it?

As for "hate" and "bile" can you pick out some examples from above for us to reflect upon? What I've seen is mainly posts such as this in which people are referred to as 'right wing bigots'

I'm actually a now ex member of the Labour party and one time left wing activist. So much for imagined stereotypes.

Wokeism is a direct U.S import ( U.S cultural colonialism in action for you) based on three theories: 'Intersectionalism' and its hierarchy of oppressions and privileges; Queer theory - especially in its guise of gender identity theory; and Critical Race Theory.

'Woke' is actually a very handy short hand term which is more than applicable. Wokesters are invested in student politics; ever so predictable - and have nothing to to do with the traditional left at all.

It's a bunch of theories, much like conspiracy theories that people speaking the truth are out to get transvestites for the way that they dress and think.

We don't want to participate in the sexual activity of men, carried in public as unconsenting props, if other women want to prostitute themselves they should do so in private spaces and not pimp the rest of us out.

It's a religion based on love of self (which is what Satanism is, so the previous linis provided is interesting, i had no idea along with high DV levels that NZ has such a strong Satanic history) - that currently sacrifices women and children for men's sexual rights described by Foucault in his Queer theory and lived by him in his lifestyle.

How bizarre to tell the UK people who reside in the UK and who aren't living in NZ as colonists. KJK saud her family are UK/Irish working class so they never left to colonise other countries nor did she become well off from a trust fund based on colonists. Those living in NZ with family that originated abroad have a cheek calling her a colonist.

Colonists accusations is as backwards as calling men - women and those who don't want to sterilise Austic children in medical experiments like Aktom T4 - the NAZIs.

Alondra said:
"Woke is the dirty word the right wing of politics in the USA and UK have spread, thanks to publications like the Daily Mail, but only mean policies that are socially progressive."

Actually, "woke", as used by most people who use the term (hardly any "woke" left-wingers actually use it) is an ironic description of the excesses of left-wing identity politics, particularly in regard to wholly irrational creeds like transgender ideology, which breaks the most basic rules that usually apply to identity politics (e.g.., don't seek to colonise and thereby cancel another group's identity - as in "TWAW", and don't impose identities on others - such as "cisgender"- that are meaningless to them).

You'll find these days that criticism of wokery is just as likely to come from the critical left, and from non-aligned rational humanists (like Dawkins) as it is from the right.

And identity politics generally are a massive and convenient (for governments) distraction from the primary driver of disadvantage - economic deprivation.

NotHavingIt · 27/03/2023 11:24

Nothing to do with " the UK press".

Can I get a link to this please - I am only seeing a graphic at present.

But the stats look highly questionable. Where did the 48,000 figure come for 'men identifying as women' come from? You will know that accurate recording of trans status for people is extremely difficult - some will tick the box for the gender they identify with and will not record a trans status, some will tick the sex that was recorded on their birth certificate as they feel this is more accurate, and some will be fearful in surveys to record anything that might identify them as trans and will not tick boxes for this reason.

Because of these issues, which are well known by analysts of this sort of data, it is not plausible to make the claims that you are making.

Whaeanui · 27/03/2023 11:26

Once Were Warriors is a film based on the book written by Alan Duff who gets a lot of grief for being honest about the problems in Maori culture. I’ve seen it. It’s the reality for too many. Remember half of women in nz have experienced either physical or verbal abuse in the home and Maori women are over represented in that.

Whale Rider is my favourite film of all time, I cried the entire way the first time through, one of the actors families is friends with mine. It’s beautiful and deeply moving, it is also an accurate depiction of how women struggle within our own culture.

I strongly recommend both films. With gang membership rising, it’s Maori women who bear the brunt.

Yes let's talk about Fox News and Elon Musk rather than what a woman actually said.

Elon Musk has allowed lots of women and men who were banned from Twitter to have their accounts back. Why is that a problem?

Can you provide me a list of left wing news organisation queuing up to give KJK a platform?

You know you can't so I can only conclude that your end game is to shame women into silence.

Once Were Warriors is a graphic depiction of the mess that is colonisation, a mess that New Zealand is still grappling with.

Certainly in the case of 'Once Were Warriors', but it is women who end up at the brunt end most of the time.

My daughter stayed, and worked, in New Zealand about 10 years ago. She says that violent criminal biker gangs control prostitution rings.

Gang life is a direct result of colonisation. Māori were brutalised terribly. In the ensuing years, gang life became a way to connect in lieu of whānau, hapū and iwi.

Before colonisation, violence was not a thing in Māori culture. Māori pāpā were noted for their indulgence of tamariki/children. (White) visitors documented their disapproval of the amount of time and attention lavished upon the little ones.

Violence amongst Māori is everything to do with colonisation. I cannot begin to describe the pain and trauma still threaded through every strand of life for Māori . I see it, I hear it and I feel it every single day. A lot of us are working very hard towards a more equitable society.

Whaeanui · 27/03/2023 11:28

Yes they do. My grandmother had land taken from her personally, obviously her parents and grandparents too. British and Irish descendants in NZ are the children of colonisers.

I am Maori. This is complete lies. Stop. Maori men sold Maori women as sex slaves the moment ships arrived. Before colonisation there are no records to support your claim. Maori men are responsible for their own violence, their own sexism which prevented women from even speaking on marae. Don’t tarnish the memories of women like Whina & Eva who had to fight Maori men just to speak

Yes, both memorable films but in very different ways.

I actually think 'Whale Rider' would be a great film for to any pubescent girl who is coming of age.

Those figures come from UK prison data and the 2021 Census.

But even before those census results, UK Ministry of Justice figures from 2019 on rates of offending were quite damning.

Of the transwomen in UK prisons, 58.9% had at least one sexual offence conviction.
Of the men in UK prisons, only 16.8% had at least one sexual offence conviction.
Of the women in UK prisons, a tiny 3.3% had at least one sexual offence conviction.

The links to the sources of the data are shown in the right hand corner of the graphic. I'm sure you are as capable of typing them into a search engine as I am.

The data are from:

  1. His Majesty's Prison Service
  2. The ONS

The ONS data are derived from the last census, in which the question about gender identity was optional. Anyone who felt uncomfortable about stating their trans status could opt not to answer. Only 6% of the population chose not to answer (link), so it's pretty unlikely that large numbers of trans-identifying people were missed.
