I know the Guardian are generally crap on women’s rights but FFS - no mention of Let Women Speak, stating that it was an “anti-trans” event and the mob were “pro-trans”, rather than pro-women and anti-women. Horrible stuff - I’m going to email.

Anti-trans activist Posie Parker ends New Zealand tour after chaotic protests at event

The controversial UK gender activist was booed, heckled, and doused with tomato juice in a heated confrontation between groups in Auckland

The Guardian, frankly, is a pile of shite. Not a term I normally use, but I tend to believe nothing that I read in it any longer.

Journalistic integrity? Ha!

landOFconfusion · 25/03/2023 12:31

It is good to see some honest reporting about the days’ events in the UK press.

Justme56 · 25/03/2023 12:40

Strange how the NZ Herald reported the motor cyclists holding a different rally at Aotea Square (wherever that is). No violence there when faced with leather clad men on bikes. Just women they seem to not like.

RealityFan · 25/03/2023 12:44

That's a shocking article. I say that after years of The Guardian only being fit to line my cats' litter tray. And even they turn their noses up at it, they really know shit when they smell it.
Fake news, fully defined in a single report.

TheBiologyStupid · 25/03/2023 22:47

A disgraceful piece from the Guardian. I see that they haven't seen fit to report on Leo Varadkar's "Sturgeon moment" yet, either.

Erm, no the Guardian champions women’s rights

Erm, no the Guardian champions women’s rights

Beg pardon?

RufustheSpeculatingreindeer · 25/03/2023 22:52

Haven’t looked at the guardian since the reporting on cologne

have they changed since then?

TheBiologyStupid · 25/03/2023 22:53

That'll be why they employ the misogynist LOJ and decent columnists like Hadley Freeman were forced out then...?!

SweetCoriander · 25/03/2023 22:53

Do they fuck

ArabellaScott · 25/03/2023 22:57

The Guardian is just buzzfeed with Waitrose adverts.

Perfect description!

I won't even click on their links anymore. Misogynistic arseholes.

Guardian supports VAWG shocker

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 25/03/2023 23:54

I grew up in a liberal Guardian reading household throughout the 80s and 90s. Parents from working class northern backgrounds and the first to attend university in their families.

I always thought it was great, enjoyed reading it (there wasn't a lot of entertainment in our house and I was an avid reader/precocious child!). Even I can see how it's changed. Unfortunately my mum (surviving parent) still sings its praises and refuses to hear any criticism. Sends them money too 🙄

I don't respect her opinion these days (she's not an especially warm person) but her indignation is impressive - as though I'm personally insulting her (!)
I don't know where her critical thinking skills have gone. Despite being a feminist/socialist she doesn't seem to 'get' the trans issue either. Not really fussed about hashing it out but I was surprised by her blinkered attitude. She seems to think you have to hand in your liberal credentials if you denounce the Guardian 😂 I'm still left-leaning fwiw.

Does anyone know when or why the Guardian changed? Was it always this bad? I probably stopped reading it around 10-15 years ago except articles online. I shared the Hadley Freeman stuff with mum which seemed to catch her off guard.

Only the new kind with cocks.

SweetCoriander · 26/03/2023 00:06

Does anyone know when or why the Guardian changed?

It became dependent on T+ liberal American money and T+ liberal American journalism. That office culture hounded out decent British journalists like Hadley Freeman. You Tuber and occasional columnist Owen Jones gives a bloody good impression of being in thrall to them.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 26/03/2023 00:23

Thanks! I tried to say it was dependent on US money these days but I was driving at the time and admittedly didn't have facts to back myself up. She was adamant it's a fully independent British publication with no US backing 😁
Honestly she's a pita and I'm starting to realise she talks a good game (superficially) but lacks insight*. It's only taken me 40 years.

*not limited to the Guardian unfortunately!

Erm, no the Guardian champions women’s rights

Take it you haven’t actually read it in the last decade, then?

They used to champion women’s rights. Now they only champion woman’s rights if said ‘women’ have a cock and balls.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 26/03/2023 00:26

I should say that was literally the answer I gave, almost word for word but she was completely sceptical 😂

I didn't have the detail to back it up so I left it there. I don't feel any need to 'win' but her Guardian-smugness can be frustrating at times.

The Guardian didn’t change … you changed.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 26/03/2023 00:31

Not directed at me but though I may have changed, I do not recognise the Guardian as the newspaper I grew up reading and respected.

SweetCoriander · 26/03/2023 00:33

@GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat you can look up where every Guardian journalist is based. I could probably tell you the US based ones these days without even checking - but I always do check. Same with Australia/NZ. Different tone, slant, intent, language style, culture.

That being said, there are some glaring differences between the reporting on women's rights and children's safeguarding from different British journalist teams at the Guardian. Legal and Sport are a lot more factual for example than News and Politics. The former tend to report; the latter tend to 'interpret'.

The headline writers are frequently out of control.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 26/03/2023 00:36

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I went in pursuit of answers the other day and didn't really get anywhere. Good to know some teams are remaining factual (for now).

Erm, M2M, so reporting PP is anti trans when her rallies are all about 'letting women speak,' is ok? Likewise how this paper pushed truthful reporters like Suzanne Moore out the door is ok too? I used to be a staunch Guard reader but that stopped as soon as they went heavily woke on us. Are you a handmaiden?

RealityFan · 26/03/2023 00:46

I have heard it said that The Guardian only survives because of the US money it gets and the hundreds of copies bought everyday for distribution within the BBC.
Two peas in a pod.
