Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

‘Identifying as a woman’ is self-defeating, so instead this leads to...

I saw a tweet the other days where a transwomen was miffed when another transwoman was in the ladies toilets as it ‘spoilt the point’. So thinking where this all ultimately leads to:

  • All spaces mixed sex
  • Sex-based terms and pronouns meaningless with children brought up on it not even realising it once had a sex based meaning
  • Men’s sport and other men’s sports
  • Health information referring to what? Euphemisms? Sex-based body part names are a no no
  • Fetishes losing their allure as no element of being forbidden or crossing boundaries so what next?

what else?

OP posts:

I agree. There are a few MN threads, such as the trans widows escape group, that have witnessed a clear pattern of escalation where a fetish is involved.

There is a danger that if entering WCs, or playing in women's sports etc no longer sates the fetishistic excitement then there will be further escalation.

As to what form that will take, I wouldn't like to speculate as there are so few boundaries left to cross it can't be a good result...

MorningPlatypus · 20/03/2023 10:15

I remember reading about a transwoman at a workplace made a formal complaint, because his female colleagues chose to use the disabled loo.

Traducing women's spaces boundaries is part of the thrill.

CatSpeakForDummies · 20/03/2023 10:19

This is happening with our school residential- all the trans boys have been put together and they are all mortally offended at not being in with the actual boys. Watching the parents trying to formulate a complaint in a way that is still "be kind" is actually wonderful, in all it's ridiculousness.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 20/03/2023 10:21

When everyone is special, no one is special.

IcakethereforeIam · 20/03/2023 10:25

Yup, if they get what they say they want, they'll kill what they actually want.

Haha, amazing!

You won't catch me defending teen boys on the regular but they 100% deserve privacy and dignity, too. I can imagine for a lot of boys going through puberty it's mortifying enough changing in front of others as it is, imagine doing it in front of a cohort of "trans boys".

Twizbe · 20/03/2023 10:28

It's a bit like the Little Britain sketch isn't it. They wanted to be the only trans in the village

Raineth · 20/03/2023 10:31

Awwww, did he not get the thrill of dominating a load of uncomfortable intimidated women in their private space, diddums.

Just shows how little of this is about actually going to the toilet. It’s just about bullying and thrill-seeking.

But surely they are sharing with boys Wink You can't mean they <shhhhh> recognise the other transboys are actually girls Shock

I wonder the next thing be race or colour self-ID? Disabled self-ID? What’s likely to cause the most offence and intimidation elsewhere, now they’ve invaded singe sex spaces?

There is not such thing as Race self ID. That's even more ridiculous than sex self ID.

Twizbe · 20/03/2023 10:59

@Socrateswasrightaboutvoting there is. Who was it who identified as trans racial - Korean?

There have been other high profile cases where white people have pretended to be of a different race and held quite senior positions in organisations supporting that race.

Fizbosshoes · 20/03/2023 11:13

There is another thread about trans-ableism - which I had not heard of before.
People who feel they are in the wrong (healthy, functioning) body and self harm so they are disabled. Some have even amputated a limb.

You cannot self ID as an ethnic group you are not part of. It is entitled privilege at its finest. You cannot just decide to be Korean or African American - if you are referencing RD.

IcakethereforeIam · 20/03/2023 11:28

I think an American magazine had an article on this kind of thing (Vanity Fair?). The title was something along the lines of 'A new way of being mad'. It was published a few years before the gender thing took off. To me the parallels were striking. I think I've seen links to it on FWR.

I also, oh years ago, saw a documentary on it, body integrity identity dysphoria/dymorphia, BIID.

IcakethereforeIam · 20/03/2023 11:33

Sorry, my mistake, it was in the Atlantic. Published in 2000. Unless it's been archived you need an account to read it but here's a link

These days you don't even need to self harm - I am seeing more and more posts online about people who "identify" as disabled.

About 6ish years ago, it was very common for people to say they were quirky, possibly on the autism spectrum - yet they had no formal diagnosis. They jumped on the bandwagon, as those with actual ASD were raising awareness and finally getting the support they needed.

I knew so many people IRL or online, who adopted the quirky ASD (non) diagnosis. Now it's gone out of fashion, these people no longer identify as ASD. They are now queer. Who knows what they will self-identify as in the future.

SingTheNationalAnthemAndGoToBed · 20/03/2023 11:39

My GP told me a couple of years ago I could self-ID as being autistic.

yup. And similarly you can’t self ID as a sex you are not part of… but somehow that is fine but race is not? Why? Surely a male identifying as a female is also entitled privilege at its finest?

Twizbe · 20/03/2023 11:42

@Socrateswasrightaboutvoting I totally agree with you, but it is a thing.

Of course! 😂 It’s all so daft because no-one actually believes in it, even if they say they do.

At my work (university) we now have events for “AFAB non-binary” and “AMAB non-binary” people and not a single student even seems to register the hilarious nonsense of that 🤣🤣🤣

There is no logic or consistency anywhere in this field of beliefs. It's like sex doesn't exist or matter and can't be recognised, until it negatively affects a TQ+ person.

Eventually you realise the only consistent belief being followed is 'heads I win, tails you lose'.
