I don't give a crap what he (and YES MNHQ he says he doesn't mind being called "he) want's to be called.
But apparently he "came out as trans" many years ago?

'I’m still gender fluid and I tell everyone that’s supported me, "Relax people, he or she, it doesn’t really matter." The pronoun thing isn’t the important thing, the important thing was coming out [as trans] back in 1985, that was the tough time".

Sorry, but wasn't Izzard actually known for being comfortable in "female" clothing as a male? Wasn't that his big thing......"they're not women's clothes, they're MY clothes" etc?

Are we rewriting history now?

And STILL wittering on about being "in girl mode".

FUCK off with that shite. You're a 61 year old male.
You're not a girl by any stretch of the imagination.

Ursula was supposedly modelled on the drag queen and John Waters movie stalwart Divine so I’m not surprised at the resemblance.

Aw. I liked Divine/Harris Glen Milstead.

IIRC Glen always thought of himself as character actor whose best known roles happened to the be the dragged up ones (and Divine was a character invented by John Waters rather than Glen). The Disco drag act was just a spin off to make cash, seeing as John Waters didn’t really make any money until Hairspray and Glen died before the next film, Cry Baby.

Glen was only 42. I like to think that the truly counter cultural genderbending stars of the past would think all of this current stuff is pure woowoo but it’s a fools errand really - John Waters doesn’t seem to get it (he’s a 76 year old gay chap with no kids, gender ideology probably doesn’t touch his life in any negative ways, although surely he’s due a kicking for vintage transphobia) and Eddie ‘They aren’t women’s clothes they are my clothes’ Izzard has been a let down (although in hindsight, was always going to be). At least ‘action transvestite’ was a funny joke, but if he goes on to claim to have run all those marathons as a woman that really will be a joke (and not in a good way).

I like to think Jayne County (very early 80s post op transsexual) would see 2020s pronoun-based, neogenders gender stuff as pure bollox, and sour old, funny old, dear old Pete Burns would too, but who knows how the current climate would affect their sense of self? Maybe Pete would be Petra by now?

(of course, the big difference between the oldies I’m namechecking here and Sizzard is sexual orientation - I don’t think Pete, Glen or Jayne were affected by the three letter acronym).

I just looked it up and Jayne County’s most recent interview doesn’t mention gender but does say that County has always been ‘anti establishment’ and now has 13 cats, one of which has three legs. So still seems somewhat likeable.

Unlike Sizzard.

Sorry that was so long but in my defence it was a fucking long podcast.

Grin

Thanks for the summary. I would not be able to stomach sitting through it msyelf so you did me a public service. Thanks

The labour party putting Izzard on the IWD poster. They are trolling us.

nilsmousehammer · 08/03/2023 17:34

They really don't want to be in power do they?

When you have all the political parties loudly writing suicide notes and you realise NONE of them want to have to run the country...

Jo Maugham is upset at some magazine calling Eddie "he"

Come on, don't be mean! The Transvestite Islington Fox-Murderer hasn't been in the news for at least a fortnight.

My ex did this. My haircut, my clothes (literally - when I finally left with just the clothes I stood up in and went into a refuge, he refused to give my clothes/makeup/jewellery back to me), his new middle name is my middle name. He even changed his backstory so it was basically mine - the places I'd visited, cities I'd lived in etc.

When we went to court so he could get access to my DD (he was refused - she wasn't his child and he'd only known her since she was 2), he turned up in my clothes, hair same as mine, my jewellery on.

Fucking hell, I'm so sorry. Flowers

My sympathy too - sounds awful 💐

Like the plot of Single White Female, but Newly Separated Trans Male.

WickedSerious · 08/03/2023 21:18

Go away Eddie, you're boring us now.

JaneJeffer · 08/03/2023 22:53

Every time this thread appears on my TIO I start singing

Wake up, little Susie
Wake up, little Susie
Well, what are we gonna tell your mama?
What are we gonna tell your pa'?
What are we gonna tell our friends when they say
"Ooh, la, la"?

My ex did this. My haircut...

Crikey, what an awful sack he is. I'm at least glad to hear that he wasn't able to have access to your daughter, the bloody freak.

TeaGinandFags · 08/03/2023 23:11

A lot of men used to say that in the 90s. It was a shitty chat up line. A lot of us used to say we preferred men to walk off as no one needs a smarmy t*sser.

I think that we should stop believing men and start making them explain themselves.

GetOffMyDoorJack · 09/03/2023 01:38

Will Suzy still be accepting male acting roles?

Spidergloves · 09/03/2023 07:54

Jo Maugham is upset at some magazine calling Eddie "he"

I've seen people do this at every stage of Eddie hitting the headlines over the past few years. And every time, he states he doesn't mind and is relaxed about pronouns. As this time. So why do others - who have nothing to do with him - get offended on Eddie's behalf if no misgendering has actually taken place? I guess it just highlights TRA militancy for what it is?

To a point Eddie always seems somewhat relaxed about how he is perceived and never made demands on it. But using women's facilities and now this (apparently) textbook creepy name change seem a world away from this laidback 'I don't mind' line. I guess there is more to come?

gogohmm · 07/03/2023 11:41

He used to say he was a lesbian trapped in a male body. Saw him live in the 90's. So by definition trans. But he was also comfortable playing male lead roles

Of course he is. Identity goes out the window when there are bills to be paid.

Used to love EI. The hoovering joke was hilarious. Very disappointed in him.

Eddie knows full well that he doesn't have to enforce pronouns because his flying monkeys will do it for him.

nilsmousehammer · 09/03/2023 08:05

Look up 'authoritarian follower personality'. It's enlightening. There are personality types who love rules, and being able to enforce them on others, and scold and punish, and see others punished, and get their virtue cookies by being Better Than You. It's less the subject matter that's at the heart of it, or any actual values, it's how it works to meet the person's needs.

Then read some Dickens: Mr Murdstone. Mr Brocklehurst. He was making fun of personalities like this and their scolding superiority nearly 200 years back. At the time though for men like that, the vehicle that met the needs, and let them behave that way while appearing righteous, was religion. The vehicle changes: the personality doesn't. Take it back a bit further and you'll find it in witch prickers and puritans.

If people 'are who they say they are', and Eddie continually stresses any name or pronoun will do, I guess I don't understand why anyone would make an issue out of supposed misgendering at all. It's from the horse's mouth. If there's a choice, I don't see why anyone should humour Eddie on this at all.

But thinking this gives Eddie the right to enter women's spaces is sickening.

Awful story, but on the bright side, I don't suppose dressing like that did him any favours in court. The judge only had to take one look to see what they were dealing with.

I love Chris Evans but he has Eddie on this morning and I'm getting too angry at the simpering. Cheering on a text from a listener bragging about welcoming Eddie into their Women's Only running club etc.

Yuck.

I've switched over now. Not that any of them care, but it's the only thing I can do to stay sane this morning.

I used to LOVE Eddie - saw him a couple of times in the 90s and knew lots of his sketches word for word. I'm so angry.

Is he ever interviewed by anyone who would just treat him as Eddie 'as was' and not do all this? After all, if he says he doesn't mind. Sorry I've said the same thing a couple of times this morning but as long as Eddie is openly, repeatedly quoted as not being bothered, why does nobody just say what they see and treat Eddie accordingly? (This is pretty much a rhetorical question at this point)

Blort · 09/03/2023 10:43

Suzy hasnt said that suzy isnt bothered. They've declared a preference for she/her pronouns and the name Suzy - but that it's ok if someone says he/him or Eddie.

Blort · 09/03/2023 10:44

But their stage name for touring and tickets will still be Eddie Izzard Hmm

SinnerBoy · 09/03/2023 10:46

He's misgendering himself! The massive transphobic bigot! CANCEL him NOW!!

MavisMcMinty · 09/03/2023 11:12

Snoozy Izzard.
