Experiences of a Trans Person

I think it might be healthy to document here the experiences of someone from the other side, and for you to pay it some mind.

I'm an early-twenties STEM student working in renewable energies, and outside of my course I'm a photographer and musician. I've travelled a fair amount and adore my home country of Scotland. Living in Glasgow, I have found a queer community of beautiful people who create a joy to everyday life I treasure.

At the beginning of this month there was a 'Let Women Speak' rally held here that some of you here attended; I have seldom felt more unwelcome and stripped of dignity than while in your crowd, carrying out my photojournalistic duties (images 1&2). While capturing Kellie-Jay Keen pathologising my friends as subhuman perverts and members of the crowd flaunting their homophobia and their use of dogwhistles (subliminal far-right messaging) I was being brazenly looked up and down, receiving steely gazes and pursed lips and hushed whispers behind my back. While photographing the first speaker after Keen, who began her piece portraying autistic people as children devoid of agency, I was approached by one of you who made it clear I looked too queer for their liking and was squaring up for assault. I made my way out at this point (captured at 8:42 here and 9:09 here).
The atmosphere your movement brought to George Square was one I've only before experienced while documenting far-right rallies in Eastern Europe, where I have been hounded through the streets and beaten up for the same reason. I assure you, your ideology would feel very much at home there.

At the other side of the square things couldn't have been more different, you were bathed in colour and music and hugs and laughter, the place is full of friends dancing and dressed resplendent in whatever camp pretty things they felt like (images 2&3).

Ours was a crowd of locals; I strained to hear a Glasgow accent in yours.

Ours is a city that at short notice manages to fill the top of Buchanan Street (image 5) in solidarity with the queer community - the last time I saw it like this was during COP26. It's one that fills George Square in a candlelit vigil for Brianna Ghey.

Your movement has meant I'm called a pervert and a groomer while going about my average daily life. Our morally vacuous, increasingly fascist political class (thinking also of Magnus Hirschfeld and of Martin Niemöller's famous poem) is picking up what you've started and they're running with it. You may not call yourself a homophobe, a white nationalist or an antisemite, but you're sitting awfully comfortably considering that those that do find your movement incredibly attractive.

What on Earth are you on about? The thread was pretty unanimously GC! The total opposite of what you’re falsely claiming.

Deleting posts in which women are pointing out when male people are mansplaining is pure censorship. Even when the original poster has admitted they’d made bits of their original post up (OP said they are trans then admitted they weren’t).

That isn’t trying to get the thread pulled, or it not going how “the GCs” like. We want ALL the posts to stand! It’s the genderists who like having things deleted and censored, not us.

You’re a regular pro-gender ideology poster around here, suggestionsplease, and so you can dispense with that disingenuous tone, too.

I think you have misunderstood my post.

I am referring to overall trends for thread deletions on the FWR board, and the activities that occur prior to this to create this moderating decision. As you say, this thread is, at present, unlikely to be deleted in its entirety due to overall tone and trend.

For eg. Threads discussing trans criminality are likely to stand, threads discussing trans victimhood eg recent Brianna Ghey tradegy, are likely to be deleted. This is all evidenced. And the trends of posting that lead to these deletion decisions are being observed.

On the contrary, it's been my experience that nobody wants deletions.
They are good for lurkers to see the utter batshittery of some of the TRA arguments.
It really does the heavy lifting by itself.

This

darvo i think people call it

and ive said it before and I’ll say it again….the rules on FWR are different to every other board and they are NOT in FWRs favour

bless anyone? Or maybe yawn….

ArabellaScott · 28/02/2023 22:25

So on a feminist board, women are not allowed to use the term 'mansplaining'.

FML.

myveryownelectrickitten · 28/02/2023 22:25

CremeEggQueen · 28/02/2023 22:15

Deleting posts in which women are pointing out when male people are mansplaining is pure censorship
Oh come off it, it wasn't "just pointing out mansplaining" at all, if you saw the post why are you and others pretending it did?!
It was name calling to boot and unless you're very new to MN surely you know that's always been against talk guidelines?;

So all the deleted posts were name-calling, were they? Is the term “nonbinarysplaining” now calling names or a personal attack? No, as that was why some were deleted.

The OP called women - including implying on this thread - fascists. Yet making a joke about “nonbinarysplaining” is a terrible hurty insult?

No - let’s be clear - it isn’t. No, a bit of wordplay is not worthy of deletion, when a person up thread is justifying real violence against women because they looked at him in a way he thought “brazen”. You’re a craven moral coward if you pretend this is the case.

Women making a bit of fun of men is not somehow equivalent to, or worse than men justifying violence against women. (And there are words for that, too — but ironically they would probably get deleted.)

ArabellaScott · 28/02/2023 22:26

What does this suggest?

Women point out misogynist behaviour, on a feminist board, on a site called Mumsnet.

And get deleted.

I tell you, it's FUCKING depressing.

RufustheSpeculatingreindeer · 28/02/2023 22:29

JanesLittleGirl · 28/02/2023 22:24

What did I say?

God you’ll never get the answer to that,

MNHQ don’t like explaining post deletions on threads…but it might be worth your while emailing them

as another poster said we are never going to ‘learn’ if they don’t tell us why

WomensLandArmy · 28/02/2023 22:30

To be fair, I think I was probably deleted because I also called them a twit. This is by definition 'a foolish and silly person'. My perception was that they were a twit. I crave apology from the OP for calling them a twit and thinking them silly and foolish.

JanesLittleGirl · 28/02/2023 22:35

Maybe MN applies diversity, inclusivity and whatever the fucking third one is when employing moderators. And we have the inclusivity one tonight. I expect to see this reply deleted.

myveryownelectrickitten · 28/02/2023 22:36

The fucking irony of deleting posters for making a joke about “mansplaining” and “nonbinarysplaining”. When, as several posters pointed out, the “non-binary” OP repeatedly used “binary” language about “men and women” and assumed everyone else’s gender in “their” own posts. And also tried to “gotcha” us about not being trans, forgetting that they’d called themselves trans to start with.

The genderists can’t even be consistent themselves. But they want to censor women from speaking about all of these mendacious, goalpost-shifting, pseudo-rules about what language is permitted — oh yes!

It’s pure, rank, visible misogyny. As I said, get back to me with details of when ever silencing women for pointing out men trying to justify violence has ever been on the “right side of history”. No answer so far…

RufustheSpeculatingreindeer · 28/02/2023 22:36

womans

you gotta call it as you see it 🤷🏻

CremeEggQueen · 28/02/2023 22:38

So all the deleted posts were name-calling, were they? Is the term “nonbinarysplaining” now calling names or a personal attack?
No, it's not 🙄 Yet again, it wasn't just saying that though, was it? So why pretend it was?

Oh yeah, “mansplaining twit” is much, much worse than calling women fascists for looking at you “brazenly”, and saying they deserve violence as “retaliation”.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/02/2023 22:43

Oh, ridiculous. This is DARVO in action. It’s the OP who has made repeated ageist, angry statements and also admitted lying.

This.

CremeEggQueen · 28/02/2023 22:43

Did anyone say it was much, much worse?
No, they didn't, did they?
See you knew it didn't "just say mansplaining, honest" as you seem to have remembered a little bit more now.

RealFeminist · 28/02/2023 22:43

HOW COULD IT BE MAINSPLAINING IF HES NONBINARY THOUGH

myveryownelectrickitten · 28/02/2023 22:44

Well, that’s why someone said he was “nonbinarysplaining”. That got deleted, presumably it made some delicate manflower feel hurty.

Don't forget I also said 'twit', a silly or foolish person. But I've apologised now and am very sorry a I perceived the OP in that way.

Exactly!

if there is mansplaining and womansplaining there must be nonbinarysplaining

it was probably the twit bit though 🤔

RufustheSpeculatingreindeer · 28/02/2023 22:46

Apologies

to clarify….calling the OP a twit

THEYLL NO HAE TWITS UNLESS THEYVE HAD THE OPERATION

RufustheSpeculatingreindeer · 28/02/2023 22:47

No….twit as in foolish and silly not breasts

CremeEggQueen · 28/02/2023 22:51

HOW COULD IT BE MAINSPLAINING IF HES NONBINARY THOUGH

PEOPLE HAVE SAID BOTH IN SEPARATE POSTS, ONE SAID MANSPLAINING THE OTHER NON BINARY PRESUMABLY IN A CLEVER WAY TO SHOW THEY'RE CORRECTiNG THEM?
